Every single patient gets my empathy, encouragement, praise and some small talk! These are my favorite conversations of the day!
Vets DO talk to the animals!
And a new paper has proved it!
Researchers recorded 55 veterinary consultations in the UK and USA and there were nearly 800 incidences of speech directed solely at the pet.
So the animals were spoken to an average of 15 times at each appointment, not bad going when the average consult is only 15 minutes long!
The authors identified 12 different categories of speech including Empathy "๐ผ ๐๐๐๐ค ๐ฆ๐๐ข ๐๐๐ ๐ค๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐ข๐ก ๐๐ก'๐ ๐๐พ', ๐ค Encouragement "๐บ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐.
There was not a single consultation where the pet was not included in the conversation.
I absolutely love this! I chat to my patients all the time and I know all my colleagues do too. First and foremost veterinary professionals are animal lovers, we wouldn't dream of ignoring them!
What are your favourite things to chat to your pets or patients about?!
