I’m reposting this from another site because I definitely think it’s worth sharing🐢❤️🐢😊

Did you know a Box turtle only roams 1 mile its whole life? If it is removed from its area/home then for the rest of its life it will roam aimlessly stressed out... trying to find "home" until it dies a very sad death.

Please do not remove turtles. Do not take them home as pets. If one is injured please mark the exact spot found for the wildlife center. If a turtle is in the road you can help by moving it directly across the street in the direction it was heading. Thank you!

I post this every few months because it's not really known. Many people think it is harmless to let their children take home a docile turtle to play with and release it someplace they see appropriate. I was once that kid. Please share the knowledge.

Good Evening Tortoise Lovers ❤️😊🐢😊🐢❤️
So for brunch today, the tortoises were given a combination of Romain lettuce, turnip greens, mushrooms, and egg shells for protein, sliced cucumbers, squash, zucchini, and shredded carrots top off with watermelon and a sprinkle of calcium powder and weekly vitamins (my grassland species do not receive any protein or fruit😊😊)

So for today’s lunch, I made up a combination of Romain lettuce, collard greens, turnip greens, mustard greens, and spring mix top off with sliced zucchini, squash, and cucumbers, and for the reds, I added fresh Kiwi, super ripe mangoes and wild organic blueberries topped off with the light dusting of calcium powder. I wish I ate that well.😊😊😊

We were finally able to get it installed and I want to send a huge thank you to Jack and his crew for making this dream become possible.
 And most of all I want to thank the people that donated money to help with the cost, I would’ve never been able to afford it without your help
so thank you from the bottom of my heart. It means more than you could ever imagine.❤️❤️❤️❤️

Just wanted to share some pictures of my 50 year old muscadine grapevine😮❤️😮(i’ve had this grapevine growing about 15 years, but it came from clippings off of 50-year-old vine)
It looks like we’re gonna have a lot of grapes this year ❤️❤️❤️❤️🐢🐢🐢
Most of the tortoises just love the leaves, I do not feed them the grapes because they have seeds in them so I eat tons of them and share with Neighbors 😃😃😃😃

So our new shade enclosure for the Redfoot tortoises will be here in a couple weeks. We have to go to Brooksville to disassemble it and bring it back here and reassemble it. We have some amazing friends that are going to help us do everything.😊😊

 and thanks to everyone who donated towards this new enclosure. I’m only a couple hundred dollars shy but it definitely has been worth the adventure and the cost❤️❤️❤️

Do you absolutely love tortoises and would like to hang out with “30” of them? 😮😮😮😮😮
Well, then, today’s your lucky day 😊😊😊😊

We now have volunteer positions open on Tuesdays and Sundays 😃😃 😃 and the hours are from 10 AM to 2 PM
This volunteer position includes working in the food prep area and directly with the tortoises.
Light duty work may be required such as dishes, laundry, and general maintenance around the sanctuary

Sooooo, the new Redfoot pool enclosure is finally done. It only took about a week to complete and I used about 90% of repurposed items around the sanctuary. I only had to purchase the bamboo shade around the outside and the kiddy pool
I had a lot of fun doing it and I hope the tortoises love it as much as I do ❤️🐢😊🐢❤️

I usually don’t put a post out specifically for donations, but when I came across this beautiful shade enclosure for the tortoises, it was something that I really wanted to have for them. Even though the woman has given me a great deal on this it’s Still quite expensive.
So if anyone would like to help contribute to this amazing shade enclosure for my Redfoots, please let me know. I am currently working on PayPal, Venmo, etc. to make things easier in the future for donations❤️🐢🐢😊

Spent most of the day working on the new Redfoot pool project and wanted to share some pictures of the progress❤️🐢❤️🐢😊❤️🐢
I still have about another 50 Pom fronds to add and the bamboo cover around the outside and I still have to cut the pool
 this has been a lot of work but super fun❤️🐢😊
