Senua is demonstrating our super fun new toy: the Pup Pod! PupPod is a really fun interactive game that gets harder as your dog learns and provides valuable mental enrichment at the same time! If you have a dog that bounces off the walls with energy, consider a Pup Pod as a way to provide mental stimulation and enjoyment for your dog!

In the videos Senua is playing the game on level 1, and level 2 in the second video (in the comments). On level 1 she gets a treat anytime she boops the rocker. Level 2 gets harder, she has to boop the rocker within a couple seconds of hearing the noise in order for her monolith to shoot treats at her face (her favorite!).

We've had so much fun with this toy already, and we have 3 more levels we haven't even tried yet! If you want to invest in some fun, use code BETHBROWN when checking out at Pup Pod. Then share your videos so Senua can see other dogs having just as much fun as her!

Good boy alert! Stoops is learning how to be the goodest boy on walks, using patern game "123" and he's getting rewards when he turns his head to check in!

For the most part, I like a walk to be for the dog's benefit, which means not overly directing them and letting them sniff and explore (when safe to do so). Notice how when he checks in, we're not giving him any cues, just rewarding what we want to see more of. Sometimes, it can be that simple. And when he needs a little more, we're there with 123.

Ps- Stoops is adoptable through Friends For Life!

Max is a recovering reactive dog! That 🐈‍⬛️ black cat used to be a huge trigger for him, he would bark, lunge, whine, and pull! How did he get from there to this video, where he can watch the cat, get excited by the cat, but not try to get at it?

Max says his formula for success is:
🐈‍⬛️ consistency in training
🐈‍⬛️ being lucky enough to have an AMAZING mom who spoils him rotten
🐈‍⬛️ working with a certified behavior consultant who specializes in !

If you need help with your reactive dog, schedule a free pre consult to discuss options today!

Reward-based dog training offers the most advantages and least harm to the learner’s welfare, according to the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior, which says there is no evidence that aversive practices are necessary for dog training or behavior modification.

In an unregulated field like animal training and behavior, it's important to me to uphold standards of knowledge and ethics that help me help your animals on their behavior journey. Which is why I like to pursue various certifications that demonstrate those standards, so you can trust the level of care you'll receive when training with me.

So it is with great joy and pride that I announce I recently passed the 's rigorous Certified Dog Behavior Consultant exam. I have had the same certification for felines for the past couple years, and wanted to balance it with the dog version (despite having other dog specific certifications). It was a lot of work and energy, and a lot of impatience while waiting, but so so worth it!

I'm excited to use my shiny new certification to continue to serve the dogs and cats in my community and advocating for their well being!

I had the great joy and honor of being able to speak at 's Pounce! conference this weekend. It was so fun to connect with fellow cat enthusiasts and be able to share my love of pattern games with them. The feedback I received was overwhelmingly positive, I'm so glad everyone enjoyed it!

Thanks to the IAABC foundation for giving me this opportunity, it was an amazing weekend all around, and I learned so much in the course of teaching others as well.

Let's do it again next year!

I cannot even tell you how often I hear cat parents say they find it impossible to give their cats pills. If this is something you lament about, here's a solution!

Even if you don't need to pill your cat regularly, practicing this procedure will help you when you do need it:

🐈 get a pill popper and a squeeze up treat (like churu) or a wet food your cat really loves
🐈‍⬛️ spread the treat/food on the end of the pill popper for about 1-2 inches (the ones I have come with a removable silicone tip, I cover that)
🐈 allow your cat to lick the treat, hold the pill popper as still as you can while they do this so that they are more likely to put it in their mouth
🐈‍⬛️ when your cat consistently puts the end in their mouth, start depressing the plunger while it's in their mouth so they get used to that motion
🐈 then start to put a fake "pill" (small pieces of crunchy treats like party mix or small kibble work great!) On the end, cover everything as usual, and when the end of the popper is in your cat's mouth, depress the plunger to shoot the fake "pill" in their mouth
🐈‍⬛️ now when you need to use real pills, the procedure will be familiar, predictable and enjoyable for your cat!

This is one of my personal favorites! It's the Bowite Dog Interactive Treat Puzzle-Level 2. I love that it's got layers to using it. First the dog has to depress the food receptacle in the middle, which releases food into the smaller compartments all around it. Then, to get the food out of those compartments the dog has to lift the flaps and then enjoy! This video shows Senua's 2nd time using this toy, she picked it up so fast! She loves a good challenge and using enough force to depress the button in the middle definitely took practice!

This toy gets a 10 out of 10 from me. It worked well for both my big dogs and small dogs, and provides a little extra mental stimulation for active dogs. It was hard to use for the bigger dog because it only held about a cup of kibble, and barely at that, but paired with another toy it was a lot of fun for my big boy.

I cannot even tell you how impressed I am with this team's progress! This is the Up and Down pattern game from , and these two have been working hard on it! They started practicing in a quiet room where Knox (the dog) feels comfortable, and have slowly been moving towards the front door where Knox has been reactive.

The tear worthy moments to me are when Knox looks out the window and you can see him make the choice to engage in the pattern game again rather than react out the window.

Reactivity is not a fun thing to deal with, but with some intentional set ups and pattern games, it's something anyone can recover from.

Good job Team Knox, this is a super proud trainer moment for me!!

Just a bunch of animal trainers and veterinary professionals training some goats, because that's what we do in our down time. We had a blast, and learned so much from one of my favorite people,

Thanks for the fun morning of ponies, goats, chickens and pigs!

When will I stop preaching about pattern games and how useful they are? Never!! Deal with it!

But seriously, if you've never tried doing pattern games with your dog or cat, consider adding it to your training routine!

Take Norah here. She is reactive and in this video was anxious about her mom walking away from her. By giving her a pattern game (1-2-3 in this instance) to focus on, she was able respond to me and manage her anxiety, rather thann get herself worked up. Good job Norah!

Time for another toy review!
This time we're going with another classic, the Toppl toy!

This gets a solid 10 out of 10 from me for it's versatility alone. In the video is a size small and a size large Toppl toy combined to make one enrichment toy that Picabo is rolling around (well, actually he's sticking his tongue in the holes like an anteater, but sometimes it accidentally rolls) to get the food to come out of the holes. You can also just use one toy and put a mixture of wet and dry food in it for a fun challenge. Or put the top on like I have for a harder challenge! Or make it even harder still and freeze the whole thing! I opted to just put dry food in for Picabo because it's his first time using it in this configuration and he's 14.5 years old, so I take pity on him.

Today let's review the Yeti Puff and Play Dog Toy.

If you've ever given your dog a yak cheese chew, you know they're hard, dense cheese blocks that can occupy even a powerful chewers for a good amount of time. Did you know you can take the nubs and microwave them to create a yak cheese puff? The Yeti Puff and Play is a rubber toy with a hole in the middle for you to put a cheese nub into, and then you microwave it, let it cool down, and give to your dog for fun and delicious enrichment.

My littlest chihuahua had no interest in the toy, though she would chew the cheese puff if presented outside of the toy. Everyone else loved these and chewed happily for 10-45 min, depending on their size.

This toy gets a 9 out of 10 rating. They're fun, they're cute, the dogs love them, they're easy to use and can be enjoyed by a wide range of dogs. It loses one point because like most toys, it did not pass the Senua chew test, several Yetis seem to have toes amputated.
