So....

We just made arrangements tonight....

Next weekend, we are driving to Knoxville, Tennessee, in order to pick up this pair of Chinchillas. They started out in Ukraine, before emigrating to Poland, then Canada, then to USA.

Sadly, their 'mom' has to leave the country and cannot take them with her this time. 🥺

Fortunately, we are able to provide them a new family and keep them here with us.

We adopted Xena and her 5 day old litter of 10, on 8 Jan. She's a little overly aggressive about defending the babies and her territory/food, but she's quite sweet, once out of the cage. I think she'll mellow as the babies grow and they are integrated with our other rats.

They are such a beautiful little family and growing so quickly.

Christmas bunny. He claimed this spot as soon as we put up the tree. He's not a rodent, but he's part of our special family. He joined us just before his daddy, my awesome friend, Jimmie Dixon, left this world.

4 weeks old today!

They moved into their transitional home, where they will stay together for about one more week, before the boys and girls get separated and integrated with our older rats.

They've been exploring all their new vertical space, with the levels and hammocks.

It's been so cool to watch Eve care for her seven babies, and to see them grow from 4 day old pinkies, when we rescued the whole family (Eve was a feeder, who got pregnant), to the bouncing, scurrying, climbing cuties they are today!

(Short video from the day we acquired them is also attached.)

Those little squirrel feet! 😍We've settled on Gimli and Éowyn as their names. They seem to fit their personalities well.

Saturday, we became aware of a "feeder" rat with a litter of seven 4-day old pinkies. We purchased the whole little family from Petland Pensacola, set them up in a plastic tote, which we purchased and modified to provide a good size single level enclosure.

Mom, who we've named Eve, has taken our offerings (paper bedding, her old blankets, and cotton balls) and made a nice, large nest.

She has access to the seed based feed she was receiving, as well as a mix of Oxbow Animal Health's Regal Rat, Cheerios, 5 Grain Rolled Cereal by Bob's Red Mill Natural Foods, and a few unsalted peanuts. She also has a boiled egg. Of course, as is our normal practice, she also has TWO water bottles, so even if one gets clogged, she will have ample water.

The video is in their enclosure at Petland. The still pictures in the comments are of their new nursery mansion.

Got these (RGS) cuties 2 weeks ago. Hoping they will be able to integrate with Sqirley, in time. (Additional stills in comments.)

Gracey and Reina, our pair of female rats, built a rather impressive nest.

Their bedding, this change, consisted of a thin layer of pellets (very absorbant and odor controlling) covered with a layer of feed hay (comfy). (The feed hay is intended for horses, etc. The rats just use it as bedding.)

They collected hay from all over their two Critter Nation units, to build this masterpiece.

They're going to hate us, when we have to clean their cage.

Get to know our crew! You've seen the Prairie Dogs. Check out the rest of our crew. (The guinea pigs will get a separate post, as soon as they let us get some good pictures or short videos.)

More prairie dog cuteness from the last 48 hours.

Went to pick up our 2 new baby Prairie Dogs, Tuesday afternoon. On the recommendation of many, combined with my own experience with many different animals, I spent a substantial bit of time, letting two babies (1 male and 1 female) pick me.

Here they are in their transport cage (a double chinchilla carrier from Quality Cage Crafters), before heading home.
