Bitework day with ! March 1st. 10 am start time. $70/dog. 2-3 rounds or work depending on the number of dogs who come. I had him work Kash when he was down here a couple of weeks ago and loved how he worked him. Anyone local with a bite dog, definitely take advantage of this opportunity! Eli Update. Been going back and forth and what to do with him. But I have decided to keep him and finish imprinting the remaining explosives odors so that he can be ready to certify when Hank needs to recertify! Then at that point, he will be available for someone to buy. Hoping to have him get a couple of work shifts under his belt before heading off to his new home! He is super sweet and easy going and would be perfect for someone’s first working dog!

Group class and upcoming seminar dates! Group class is all 5 weeks and great for anyone who wants to continue training/working with their dogs. Intermediate and advanced detection seminars are great options for anyone who wants to continue the progression from the intro seminar! Beacon K9 Intermediate Detection Seminar in the books! One of my favorite things that has happened during the last two seminars I have taught this year is the environment that is created amongst all of the participants. It is one that is welcoming and full of people who geek out over detection as much as I do. I love being able to walk around and hear the group having conversations about everything from IGP tracking to working dogs in the detection world to anything and everything in between. I love being able to look around at any moment and see people smiling and genuinely having a good time. There are no egos. People can offer suggestions from their past training experiences and backgrounds and we welcome any and every suggestion. We encourage each other. We laugh. We smile. And we really create a fun little group that inspires everyone else to be better! And with each seminar comes the after seminar group chat which leads to fun conversations and everyone checking in on each other’s progress. Thank you to everyone who participated in this seminar!

5 Week Group Class Announcement! 11/16, 11/23, 11/30, 12/7 and 12/14. 11 am-12 pm. This is great for people who have finished sessions who are interested in continuing their training but are in need of being around other dogs. We will cover leash walking drills to behaving in public appropriately. We will go to 5 different training locations. The cost for the 5 weeks is $250. Email [email protected] to be added to the list! Prior training is needed but you don’t have to be a current client to join!

2025 Handler School Announcement! Details will be released soon in terms of dates, location, and pricing. We will have options for both people with dogs and without dogs. The school will include the opportunity to receive certification through IPCA (International Police Canine Association) in either explosives or narcotics. Although most of my work these days is with Kash and Hank, I’m still training here and there! One of the sessions for today was this cutie! 5 month old Astra who improved so much since last session!

Meet Eli! He is a German Shepherd/Belgian Malinois. He will be joining the pack to begin his journey as a detection dog. I will be partnering with .nw on this dog and a couple of other dogs we have on the horizon. Eli will finish some testing with me and complete the imprinting phase and then will be finished by .nw. After testing, he will either be imprinted on Fi****ms or Explosives & Fi****ms. He will then either be paired with a handler ready to get into the working world, sold to someone in need of a detection dog or kept to share between .nw and I. I will be documenting his journey throughout training and where he ends up!

Intermediate Detection Seminar (October 12,13 and 20)

Description: This seminar is devoted to building the handler’s skills and strengthening the dogs’ ability to hunt. We will focus on teaching the handler how to read when their dog is in odor, recognizing changes of behavior around odor and leash handling skills.

Dates: We will do two days back to back 10/12 and 10/13) with education in the morning and field work in the afternoon. We will then come back a week later for a day (10/20) of practice hides at various locations.

Who should attend: Anyone whose dog is imprinted on odor! This will be open to ALL regardless of if you are a client or not. You can come from the sport background or working side or just for fun!

Price: $300 for a working spot, $100 for an audit spot

Move in date is Wednesday and final touches are being made to the kennel area! We decided to fence off the area behind the kennels for easy in and out access. This area will also be home to a small training area. This area will have the bark chips from the last slide in there. The gate opens to the main backyard area that will be grass. There will be a third fenced area that will be a dog run! Both the inside and outside area will have cameras and will have an alarm system for times when I’m not on the property.

Boundaries and obedience. Three dogs who are boarding who have never been around each other before and they are behaving! A lot of training inside of the house the last few days, emphasis on the “place” command, due to the heat filled days. All dogs are crushing it!

Charlie finished his five sessions and his owners of an amazing job of staying on top of his training! He has improved so much!

A great day to train the bomb dogs! Worked with our @truescentk9 training aids. PETN, RDX, Ammonium Nitrate and Potassium Chlorate for today! Valkyrie just needs to add TNT, TATP and HMTD before being ready to certify and work this summer!

Odor activates ball/fetch. Valkyrie comes out of her crate looking for a ball/Kong or anything that resembles a ball. So the new game is find smokeless powder and you get the ball/fetch. She has one speed which is fast, all of the time. We will work on that. I did ask for a little duration just to see where she is. We did our first session last night for about 10 minutes in the garage doing the same thing. And like I advise to my clients, get the dog out in the real world with real world distractions as soon as possible! Especially if you are wanting to get into the contract world. We will play around with smokeless powder for a while before introducing a new odor. I have found that once you teach them the game and have a solid imprinting method, it’s relatively easy to imprint/add new odors.

Eli Update. After my work trip this weekend, I will officially begin the imprinting process with smokeless powder. He is showing me really great things through our fetch sessions and me hiding the ball for him. I love his ability to work on his own and his drive to continue the hunt.
