Rappahannock Labradors I am a disabled veteran of 62 years--I found my peace and joy breeding unregistered AKC lineage full blood Labradors.
(1)

I have two breeding females, Xena and Autumn and one sire, Onyx. I live on a small country farm near Tappahannock, VA My puppies have found homes up and down the east coast. I breed a neapolitan ice cream variety of Labradors--Black, Yellow and Chocolate

Some of my previous litter's puppies! Some with their new owners, some before they were re-homed. All are ful blood Labrador Retrievers and every one of then a very happy puppy!

02/10/2020

The puppies are doing wonderfully! They are getting bigger and bigger, and they love to be held--every one of them just adores snuggling in someone's arms!

I am not allowing them to nurse during the day, but eat only the mixture I prepare for them--I am mixing powdered mother's milk with the beans, rice and hamburger the adult dogs eat--I am using a blender to puree their food still.

They are so lively, adventurous and playful--and they love my fingers and toes--wish I could be there when the get their first leather glove!

Puppies will be ready to re-home from around the 15th of October onward--looking forward to seeing their new families--and man-oh-man am I going to miss them. Pure rays of sunshine and love they are!

25/09/2020

Romping loose in the yard, the puppies are quite curious of everything, exploring and of course, gnawing on the cuffs of my jeans!

23/09/2020

At the water dish! These g**s and gals are so beautiful! I still have two male black labs available. Someone is coming this weekend to see them--a deposit will secure your puppy for you.

I am sorry I have no other colors available nor any more females. I already have requests from the next litter, some 11-12 months away from being of re-homing age, given Xena is as regular in her heats as she has been

22/09/2020

My puppies at play--they are really starting to explore their pen and to play among themselves more!

They are just soooo cute and cuddly! I am going to miss them when they come to their fur-ever homes

21/09/2020

Puppies first day outside--I have a modest fenced enclosure ser up with a door, a house with carpeting on blocks to keep it dry and a container for carrying them in and out. They are a little hesitant to range too far just yet but they have made the rounds of the pen. Xena is also nursing the pups while she stands, and the pups are climbing the small box inside their pen in the house, too

I am at this time waiting on confirmation for the last of the three male black labs mentioned in a previous post--who knows what will happen, lol

Family Photo-Day!

In order of photos presented, Isabelle, best grandmother to the puppies one could ever hope for, she came to me at three years of age, having been abused and neglected. She has come out of her shell and is simply a wonderful dog!

Jade, Xena's daughter from her first litter, is so full of herself, so brimming with enery and playfulness--here pretending I can't see her when she closes her eyes!. I caught her gaze a few minutes later, Xena behind her.

Xena herself, a wonderful mother and very affectionate. She is quick to learn and is in hot competiton with Onyx to be my boss--and I am soo trained!

Onyx, sire of the litter, showing off his handsomeness and great form. He is one happy dog--and he's 9 years old! By the way he prances and plays, I am sure he has a long number of years in him still! His daddy lived to be 16 1/2 years of age!

15/09/2020

A milestone day--the puppies enjoy their first meal away from nursing--this mother's milk substitute was lapped up quickly! They are now all asleep, and weening from Xena has taken it's first step.

They will be encourages to keep nursing and I will merely supplement their feeding with this formula

As of this time the pups eyes are starting to open. Still crawling and unsteady yet on their legs, they are all growing so fast. The pups may be visited at any time from tomorrow onward. The party who has pick of the litter will be available to choose a pup in 13 days.

I feel this is about the proper time for this--too young to exhibit individual personalities, the pups are just getting a feel for the world around them beyond their previously closed eyes

The females have been spoken for and all pups are spoken for by prospective new i.

As so often happens, someone may back out at any time--the 6 weeks until they are re-homing age can seem like a very long time to anxiously wait for.a puppy--hang in there folks!

As follows the first 3 are black lab males, then a chocolate lab male, two yellow lab males and a chocolate lab female and a black lab female

PLEASE REFRAIN FROM PICKING AND CHOOSING UNTIL AFTER THE 20TH
Pick of litter is unavailable until that date, which is just right since there are no personalities yet showing--please be patient, and may God Bless You ALL!

Just a couple of photos of Xena and the gang taken a few minutes ago out in the back yard

05/09/2020

I just ducked in to find the pups sleeping, so I went to my office to grab the camera, and came back to find Xena nursing the pups!

They are growing each day and are more and more active. I have not seen their eyes opened yet, but that's coming very soon now!

03/09/2020

Usually nursing while laying on her side, this is the first time I've seen Xena nurse this litter from a sitting position--the pups are growing and growing stronger, too

02/09/2020

I got the puppies up onto my bed this afternoon and took several photos of each, selecting the best ones for publication here--they are more active than before, and as they were laid upon the blanket Xena sleeps on when she's not actually with the puppies at night, they were sniffing her scent in earnest and trying to find her or their siblings.

Puppies may be seen from the 8th onward--please call ahead. I am always here.

01/09/2020

Puppies from previous litters--oh, the joy they all bring! Fondest memories are made right here playing with the puppies, watching them scramble and flock to the older dogs, discovering their environment--and my fingers!

Enjoy!

Well-fed, fat and sleepy.--they are now 6 days old!

Xena has tended to thgese pups with a zeal that is truly admirable. She is taking more time for herself--to play ball and mingle playfully with the others of my family, and of course she is always hungry, but then, what Lab is not? I do feed Xena a good extra portion added to her twice daily meals, and she is plenty active.

The pups eyes are about another week away from opening, hopefully by the 8th...

29/08/2020

I was able to pick up the pups today--they are getting bigger each day!

Cuddly little things have not yet opened their eyes--still the cutest little fur-balls I can imagine!

Xena is doing very well and spends most of her day with the puppies--otherwise she is out in the yard or letting me know that I need to be escorted outside with her! I am soooo trained, so be ready for it, lol

Visitations encourages on or after the 8th!

28/08/2020

OK, here goes--I took advantage of Xena's eating her morning meal with the others to sneak in and get a count of what genders the puppies are. I was in for a bit of a surprise, too, and this may result in withdrawals of a few deposits--so be it as I am not going to make anyone re-home one of my pups if the pup available isn't what they were looking for....

So, without further ado, here is how it stands:

Yellows: 2 males

Blacks 3 males and 1 female

Chocolates 1 male and 1 female

All are active, healthy and growing--no runts

Depositors who desire a refund please contact me--I have no remorse and refunds will be given no questions asked

I have every confidence I will find homes for each of the puppies--the list of interested parties number at least 30. Competition to place deposits before others could leaves a lot of potential owners still looking,

First image is of the current litter, taken this morning
subsequent images are of pups from the previous litter
and the last is of their parents, Onyx and Xena

UPDATE!

I've received deposits for all puppies available. I am also offering to refund any deposit, NQA. The response to my labs has been epic, and I think with good reason, too.

These labs will show themselves to be smart, loving, friendly, will show excellent learning and hunting abilities, and will have the dispositions of excellent family members, ready to protect and defend as needed while remaining gentle and well-behaves and without aggression.

This has been a mad, exciting run of events--please keep an eye on my page for updates, info regarding refunds and newly available pups

I will be posting gender counts tomorrow. Xena has kept a close watch over her pups but is easing up some now. She is very demanding of my time when she is not with her pups--she has her eye on me and the pups as often as she can

Xena is in excellent health and playful, demanding that I accompany her out, and she has her slim figure back but is not skinny--she's being well-fed with some extras at meal times

27/08/2020

The pups are already growing, look healthy and are active--and Xena barely ever leaves their side, and only then for but a few moments. I am very proud of her.

I was able to snap just a few photos and here they are

A reminder that a deposit is not required unless one wishes to reserve a puppy on or after the 8th of Sept

Deposits ARE refundable upon request, if that helps anyone to make up their minds about securing their choiceon or adter the 8th of Sept

I will be asking depositors to puck up their choice of puppy just before Oct 25th and afterwards it is first come first serve

25/08/2020

Pups are being spoken for fast--I've received two deposits and two full re-home fees tonight--

A yellow or black is tentatively going out

A yellow and a black--both females, have been specified for receipt of full re-home fees

A yellow or black male pup

Final choices will be made by depositors on or around 8th Sept or by first come first serve on or after 25th October

Puppies may be viewed after 8th Sept whether you are just looking or are reserving a puppy by making a deposit

I have taken one deposit--folks are really anxious to have one of Xena's pups--and others' are offering to put down a deposit to reserve their choice once the pups eyes are open and afterwards (which may be done at any time hereafter--first pick of litter already awarded)

There are two chocolates, three yellows and 4 blacks. Everyone is asking!

I will accept either a deposit to reserve a pup of choice after first pick of litter is chosen (after the 8th of Sept or thereabouts), or will await new owners' choices when pups are 8 weeks old. Pups may be seen after Sept 8th (their eyes will be open by then)

My labs are American Labradors, AKC lineages but not registered. Sire is son of my last Black Labrador--no papers. Dam has birth papers but was never registered

They are lean of waist, deep chested and long-legged, and they are very agile--Sire is capable of turning a 360-degree circle at a full run. I have four Labradors, two of which are non-breeding. They all get along wonderfully--never a fight among them. They are indoor-outdoor animals with terrific temperaments, are non-destructive, easy going and have often all shared my bed with no crowding problems

They have a large fenced yard, are active and playful and very affectionate

24/08/2020

Xena has given birth to her litter this afternoon! She is protective and her space restricts my getting more and better photos, so I will post what I have so far.

Worried Xena was overdue, I also called my Vet's office and asked for any advice. LOL, I was told that since I'd called, her pups would come shortly thereafter--same as mentioning rain.

Well, it wasn't 10 minutes later she bore her first, a yellow lab, lol. I left her alone and within an hour she had given birth to them all. She seems very protective--as usual--so I am leaving her alone for now.

I have only a rough count of how many puppies--from these photos I think there are 9 puppies. However I have no idea how many of each color or gender. I will post further details as they become known to me

I will say this much--Xena really wanted to bear her pups under the shed out back--with no access for me! I had to close my bedroom door to keep her there. I have of course been very worried, so I have felt a bit worn in the afterglow of being a lab-daddy again, and it has been several hours since the puppies arrived. I think I needed to unwind a bit

I will sleep in the same room tonight, so maybe I'll get more photos.....

22/08/2020

Not yet....but she is due! Xena is a happy girl anxious to play ball or chase sticks or have her belly rubbed.

We'll see what this evening brings us!

More updates to follow

20/08/2020

Xena is just a couple of days away from giving birth. She is playful and active and shows no signs of distress, but is just very appreciative if a good belly rub! She has been on a long term diet of brown rice, pinto's, black beans and lentils ahd ground beef, with green beans or zucchinis or green peppers added as available.

She is sleeping in my bed for now, and at birthing time she will move to my double-closet where the pups will remain until they are 4 weeks old, when they will move to the dining nook, and will enjoy outdoor kennel time until they are re-homed

Last image is of Xena and sire, Onyx shortly before Xena became pregnant

26/06/2020

Xena IS pregnant--surprised me! Pups are due early the last week of August. Doc says she is having a perfectly normal pregnancy....As she was not seeming to show during most of her first month, I began to doubt she had conceived!

My bad--everything is progressing normally and as she is most definately showing now and is in excellent good health and great spirits, active and loving as always, I am looking forward to a healthy and happy litter of pups

Puppies will be old enough to re-home by the last week of October!

Keep in touch and watch for further anouncements
Thank you all for your interest!
