Introducing MEGAN SCHLAK… Megan Schlak has been the social media specialist for Happy Pops since August 2023. She met the Schmidt brothers at a farmers market in Norfolk where they all instantly hit it off. She loves dogs and has three Italian Greyhounds. She will continue in her social media role and looks forward to collaborating with pet influencers and starting an affiliate program!

Introducing JONATHAN ESTES… Jonathan loves dogs and sports! He has a Golden Retriever named Hazel who is our new mascot. In his free time, Jonathan plays ultimate frisbee, golf, and tennis! He is very excited to expand Happy Pops offerings to Amazon and secure more retailers around the US!

Happy Pops has BIG, BIG news!! Read the message from Merrill and Owen below..

“Happy Pops has been in the forefront of our daily lives since its inception and it’s crazy to look back and think we were only 10 and 12 years old at the time Happy Pops was born!

We have met so many amazing people along the way who took a risk on us and our concept of making frozen treats for animals. We are forever grateful for the people like yourselves who support young entrepreneurs and connect with our vision of making a difference supporting horse and dog rescues.

So what’s the exciting news? Happy Pops is under new ownership!!

We would like to introduce you to the new owners of Happy Pops - Jonathan Estes and Megan Schlak! We met Megan at a farm market last summer, and she soon became our social media specialist where she did a fantastic job sharing the Happy Pops brand. Megan is a student at Regent University pursuing a degree in Business Management. Jonathan graduated from Regent last year with a B.S. in Marketing. Together they plan to grow Happy Pops at the local and NATIONAL levels! They plan to expand the flavor line, start a subscription box service, as well as secure more collaborations and partnerships with businesses around the U.S.

Selling Happy Pops was not an easy decision. In addition to working on our business, we are both students in the IB program at Princess Anne High School, Merrill attends the Governor’s School for the Arts as a musician, Owen plays baseball at the high school level, and we both hold leadership roles at our church. Being this busy has made it difficult to find time to be the very best stewards of the Happy Pops mission. Knowing that Jonathan and Megan believe in our mission as much as we do made the decision to pass the torch a clear choice. We cannot wait to see what the future holds.

Meet Merrill and Owen Schmidt the kidpreneurs behind Share Your Happy Pops! (Swipe for a throwback pic ;)

In early 2018, a horse named Louie was rescued from a Louisiana kill pen by an equine rescue group in Virginia Beach. It didn’t take long for a volunteer there – our very own Kim Schmidt – to recognize how special Louie was. Adopted by the Schmidt family that May, brothers Merrill (pictured on the second slide) and Owen (pictured on the first slide) made it their mission to help save more equines like Louie from slaughter. Shortly thereafter, Happy Pops was literally…born in a barn.

Since Louie’s adoption, Merrill and Owen have spent countless hours researching, developing, and growing Happy Pops into what it is today: a unique animal treat business dedicated to: creating tasty frozen treats that result in joyful interactions between animals and their people, supporting equine rescue, and helping you to SHARE YOUR HAPPY!

Happy Horses Make Happy People!

Hi! My name is Merrill. I am 13 years old and the Founder of “Happy Pops(TM)”!

In 2018, my family adopted Louie (pictured above) from a horse rescue in Virginia Beach, Virginia, saving him from a Louisiana kill pen. That same summer, I was challenged by my parents to develop a “compassion project” and create something that could make a difference in the world.

Happy Pops was born.

Today, with the help of my parents and my little brother and partner, Owen (age 11), I’d like to use my new idea to raise as much money as possible to support reputable horse rescues so they can save and find new homes for horses and other equines.
