✨🐾 Big day for the cats! 🐾✨

Today, 12 cats went in for their spay & neuter surgeries—a huge step in keeping them healthier and helping prevent future litters. On top of that, 2 lucky kittens found placement! 💕

Thank you to everyone who helped make this happen. You are truly changing lives! 🖤🐾

Update: our quarantine has been lifted and all the kitties have been doing well. We’re still being super cautious about every cat that comes in. There has been so much going around Arizona this year, we are doing our best to stay stocked on meds and tests so we can be prepared for whatever comes our way. WE DO NOT TURN AWAY CATS BECAUSE THEY ARE ILL. No cat deserves to be alone on the streets sick and not receiving care because something more cute or healthy came along. Medical fosters are few and far between, but we do our best.

We have had numerous bogus reports to animal control over the past few weeks. We even let them inspect our rescue kitties so they could see them themselves. Usually they just come by and check out our feral barn colony. Yes, they are alive. Even if you don’t see them during the day, I promise they are around in the shadows watching. Yes, many are overweight. I have a feeding schedule, but the cats often visit neighbors who feed. If our barn cats leave the property to snack, there isn’t much I can do. I don’t mind putting animal control’s concerns to rest, but it does take up a good chunk of time.

We also have an adoption event this Saturday evening! It’s going to be at the Texas Roadhouse in Casa Grande at 6pm. Come see some beautiful cats that need homes desperately. We will also be selling catnip tea! Come grab a bottle for a relaxing evening with your kitties 🖤

Understanding Burnout in Animal Rescue & Veterinary Work

In case you missed last month’s post, Burnout is more than just being “worn out.” It’s a condition caused by long-term stress and emotional overload. The World Health Organization describes burnout as physical and mental exhaustion that often includes:

Emotional exhaustion: Feeling like your energy tank is always empty.
Compassion fatigue: Becoming emotionally numb or detached to cope with constant heartache.
Loss of confidence: Feeling like your efforts don’t matter, even when you’re giving everything you have.

In rescue and veterinary fields, burnout happens often because of the nature of the work. These teams face endless emergencies, heartbreaking decisions, and limited resources while trying to help every animal possible. The emotional weight of each loss and the pressure to “do it all” can take a serious toll.

For those outside the field, imagine being on call around the clock, seeing suffering animals daily, while also battling financial and space limitations. Over time, this leads to emotional and physical exhaustion that can push dedicated people out of rescue or vet work altogether.

What can you do to help?
Show patience and understanding when rescues or clinics can’t immediately say “yes.”
Support through fostering, donating, or volunteering.
Offer kindness—sometimes a simple “thank you” makes a world of difference.

Burnout doesn’t happen because we don’t care—it happens because we care so deeply. Your compassion helps keep us going.

🐈‍⬛ Morning all! A little sad our weekly adoption events are put on hold because the event location is maxed out. But crossing our fingers we'll be back soon! We will definitely be at the Casa Grande Farmers Market on Sept 20th. I'll be messaging volunteers this weekend to see who wants to come. It should be a lot of fun.

🐈‍⬛ All of the kitties are doing well. The older cats are very much enjoying a break from events. They prefer staying home and eating treats while lounging on a cat tree. I'm finishing up everyone's FeLV/FIV testing this weekend and results will be uploaded on their rescue profiles.

🐈‍⬛ I'm also behind on messages, but I'll try to get back to everyone asap. With the kids being sick this week, nothing is getting done in a timely manner 😅 I guess that's rescue life. Forever busy.
