Thelma is Decompressing like a CHAMP!!

Decompression is EXTREMELY important when you bring a new dog home. Foster or newly adopted. A two-week decompression period is the basic recommendation, while many dogs need more time. You need to listen to what they are telling you.

During this time, your new furry friend should not go on adventures, not go to stores, they should not commingle with your other furry family members, and they should not be meeting new people outside of those who live in your household.

They are overwhelmed, even if you don't think they seem it. They are. They need to establish trust within their new home and consistency with their new humans. A routine, a quiet space, and lots of calm interactions is KEY.

It can make a MASSIVE difference for any dog. Look up the 3-3-3 rule. It is a game changer.🐾

You may be so excited to have a new family member, which is very understandable. But to be cognizant of their needs over your own is what will make all the difference with establishing the trust they need.

Happy International Black Cat Day!! Our sweet feral-turned-houseca, Diablo, wants to remind everyone to snuggle their black cats every day and always give lots of treats!

Black Magic Animal Rescue got its start when we noticed there were so many unwanted black cats in Arizona, and we had to do something about it. We wanted to give them a safe place while waiting for a forever family. Every adopter is carefully screened to make sure our cats go to the best homes possible.

Today, there wasn’t a dry eye in the clinic. The story of August, a sweet kitten abandoned outside the High Desert Humane Society, left a profound impact on everyone. The moment our staff found him, it was clear he was in critical condition. We rushed him into our care, ran tests, and began treatment for his distressing symptoms. Despite our best efforts over the next three days, his condition worsened—his blood work deteriorated, bruising spread across his abdomen, and he began bleeding from his nose.
We still have no idea what led to August’s abandonment or what caused his suffering. We understand that financial and personal challenges can make it difficult to keep a pet. However, we urge you—please do not leave animals unattended, hoping a stranger will come to their rescue.

We collaborate with numerous rescues who frequently encounter abandoned animals at their adoption centers, often without any accompanying information. To give your pet the best chance, it is crucial to surrender them properly and provide as much information as possible. Transparency helps us better understand and address their needs.

If we had known more about August’s condition, we might have been able to save him. We held him as he passed and told him he is loved. His loss weighs heavily on us. He was so young and had so much life to live. It didn’t have to end this way.

Surrendering a pet is incredibly difficult, but abandonment only compounds the challenges. If you find yourself unable to care for your animal, please reach out for help rather than leaving them in a vulnerable situation without any information. It’s a tough situation for everyone involved, especially the animal.

Urgent cat placement needed!

Animal abuse/dumping cases have been off the charts lately. We are going to a location over the next few days that has many MORE kitties needing immediate placement. This can be as little as 2 weeks and we will support every need they have. What we don't have is enough bathrooms and laundry rooms and Foster rooms left for the amount of cats we are finding.

Black Magic Animal Rescue is teaming up with Saving One Life to help these cats in every possible way but we need help from the community. There is a wide variety of cats needing foster care. From small kittens needing bottle feeding to older cats looking for a nice quiet place to rest.

Some cats we are just looking for their owners and reuniting them.

I'll be cross-posting in hopes this reaches the right people. Please reach out if you can foster some of these beautiful babies. You get to care for and enjoy the company of a cat, without the long-term commitment!

We will never forget all these tiny faces 😔

One year ago today, owners of at least 20+ small animals who had relinquish appointments after 8/7/23 and foster families with small animals were told to bring the small pets in so they could be shipped off to AZ. Foster families wanted to keep their little guys but were ordered to bring them in. A few brave fosters chose not to do so and their foster pets remained safe with them. Many employees and volunteers raised concerns and were silenced.

Blaster, who is Hurley’s friend, was one of the 35 or so animals relinquished the day before Gary Weitzman and Jessica Des Lauriers- Sales decided to “ship them all off.” They didn’t even get proper vet checks and their notes read “N/T being shipped to AZ.” (N/T meaning nail trim).

As if it was not stressful enough being surrendered to a new place, they were made to endure more hell. The question SDHS still refuses to answer is “Why were fosters snd these animals not already in the shelter called in to be shipped? Why did they ship every last pet?”

Blaster never made it out of the snake breeders. Hurley did but was sick and died a few days after being shipped back to HSSA from Colten Jones. He died hungry and alone at the hands of HSSA.

Jane (BMAR-A-27) is a beautiful white and tabby short-haired cat. She is already spayed, up to date on all vaccinations, and microchipped! Jane is very friendly with men, women, and children. She is a little nervous around dogs but loves other cats. Fun fact: Jane and Darcy are sisters!
