My Happy Place Animal Sanctuary wishes to express our sincere appreciation to The Special Horses Emergency Fund, made possible by an organization called Special Horses. Their mission is to raise awareness and funds for horses in need. In our case, Charlie, a teenage National Show Horse required an emergency vet call this week with tests, sedation, medication, etc. This was a tough bill to absorb after the big trip to Tufts with the Shires for a CT scan and surgery plus aftercare.

You can learn more about them through their website specialhorses.com. And, as always, we appreciate any amount you are able to donate to help these horses. We are a volunteer-based organization. Every dollar goes directly to helping the horses.

We just hosted a group of adults with behavioral disabilities. They loved meeting the horses, especially Pharaoh. Rob Gilbert gave them all kinds of fun facts about horses, and a lunging demonstration. I think they were most enthralled by Rob’s ability to connect with Pharaoh and lead him without a halter or lead line in a short amount of time. Connecting with a horse is just one of Rob’s strengths!

Winner-winner hay-feed dinner!

Every flake of hay for 7 horses gets steamed in this big steamer and then individually bagged in hay nets. Steamed hay benefits our horses with metabolic and respiratory issues. The hay we feed is straight cut , 3-string, 100-lb bales brought in from Idaho for us. It helps our horses with allergies and our hard keepers too.

Helping Violet heal the hole in her hoof is no more a priority than helping ALL the horses rehab their hooves. Mason’s hooves are no exception, as you can see from his “before” picture.

Rob Gilbert is working to re-wire his brain to lift his feet safely. It’s hard work and we applaud Rob AND Mason for being patient through the process. But sometimes, you just have to offset the serious work with something a little more light-hearted! Mason would like to remind everyone that although his breed is British, he looks dapper sporting a Shamrock hat. We are accepting lucky horseshoe donation $’s to help offset the farrier fees for these giants!

Good News! Violet no longer has an IV port in her neck! We expect to bring the Shires back to NJ early next week. She is sporting a size 8 custom horseshoe with a hospital plate and then its wrapped in a duct tape and elastikon boot. She will need bandage changes every couple days until her hoof heals and hardens. Thank goodness we have a shoeing stock!

Greetings from Tufts University Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine outside Boston, MA with Violet and Mason our bonded Shire Siblings!

Violet had an outpatient standing sedation CT scan on her hoof.

Diagnosis: Keratoma
Treatment: Standing Surgery with tourniquet and nerve block
Prognosis: Excellent!

All things considered, this is the best news we could have received. We decided to admit them into the hospital for surgery. They will both be there for about a week. Please consider a tax-deductible donation today to help us with their hospital bill. Thank you!

**URGENT MEDICAL TRIP NEXT WEEK**

Can you even believe that’s a hoof?? This progression shows from when we brought Violet here to now. Canker is an ugly, painful disease. We’ve been treating all four hooves and now there is no canker in any of them!

BUT, she still has a unresolving problem and our vet can’t do anything else for her without a CT scan. The ONLY place who has a machine powerful enough for her big body and giant foot with standing sedation AND can take Mason as her companion animal is Tufts University near Boston, which is over 200 miles away from here.

She has improved so much, so we don’t want to stop now! If you can help us get them to Tufts next week so we can get a diagnosis, please make a tax deductible donation today. We have one week to raise $4000 to cover the cost. Venmo, PayPal or through our website donation is preferred. I know we can do this for her!
