Training Tip Tuesday-🐾-
One of the most popular issues people have in training their dogs is potty training. So many people get rid of there dogs because they “have tried everything”.
Here’s a few tips to try and if all else fails try hiring a trainer.
If you need help or just have questions you can always dm me!
Crate Your Dog- This doesn’t mean shove your dog in a crate and leave them there. This means if you really can’t watch your dog put them in there crate. Give them a toy, a blanket, etc. The crate is NOT a punishment and should not be used that way.
When you teach your dogs commands such as place it’s helpful to you in so many ways! If your cleaning your house, cooking dinner, or really anything we’re you can’t really watch your dog but can check on them every so often. Place works great! You can even have a leash on them tied to something close so that even if your dog does break the place command they can’t wonder to far.
Tie there leash to you. This gives you full access to them at all times.
Once there doing good with these things allow them more access, only allow them in the main rooms that your in, then move to just the downstairs, work your way up to full roam of the house. If they mess up just go back to the beginning and re start. If you don’t catch your dog in the act of pot-tying you can’t do anything about it. If you catch your dog in the act say no in a loud firm voice. Pick your dog up, take them directly outside, and re start the process.
Make sure your taking your dog potty all the time. It may feel like a lot but it’s worth it in the end. If it’s not a puppy you can wait longer periods of time. The maximum a dog can hold there bladder is around 8 hours. That doesn’t mean you should let them. It’s not good for them to do that consistently. For a 5 month old dog, it can only hold its bladder for a maximum of 5 hours. Again, you don’t want it too. When it comes to puppies take them outside ALL the time.
