The morning of Friday, August 30th, I received news that my dear pet client, Oscar, passed away.

Oscar was a sweet kitty who needed daily subcutaneous fluids and extra love while his mom, Brooke, was away. Though I only met him in January of this year, it feels like I have known him for longer.

Oscar was a peculiar kitty, starting with his goofy face. His pink tongue would often peek out to say hi. He loved to go outside and soak up the sun. On rainy days, he would chill on my lap or his mom’s bed.

His zest for life was very evident, despite his fragile-looking body. Whenever he saw something he really liked, such as treats or his outside harness, he’d zoom right toward it at lightning speed! Strong-willed kitty, he always did things his own way, until the very end when he crossed the rainbow bridge on his own terms.

My favorite part about Oscar is definitely his spirit. It is kitties like him who remind me that the present moment is a gift. I had amazing experiences thanks to our connection. While I cared for Oscar, I got to save an injured owl. Also, Brooke was able to go on extremely meaningful travels knowing Oscar would be safe with me. I even got a taste of authentic Australian snacks!

I will forever be thankful for all these experiences, for Brooke’s trust in me, and I will always keep Oscar in my heart.
