All boys today! Malie was so happy to play with Truman! Truman’s family grew by 1 since his last visit! Mom had his little brother 3 weeks ago and I got to meet him today!!

After Jeff and I started the morning with a quick chiropractor appointment with Page Crow DC, I had one cutie for the day. Josh and Skye’s mom brought me 2 HUGE cinnamon rolls when they picked her up and my daughter brought me coffee!! I loved both my treats today!!

Only 1 little today, then got the yard mowed before it got crazy hot. Chandler made a new friend! He also sleeps in the absolute weirdest positions!!

All big kids today…which makes for a sore old groomer tonight! All of my kids got mani/ pedis once I was done for the day. The poodles also got brushed & combed out, so now they’re fluffy pups!!

Happy Friday! I still have tomorrow to work, but thankfully they’re all littles. Today’s pups kept me moving all day!!

Did you know that pet grooming is a completely unregulated industry? There is no requirement for formal education, no required continuing education, and no required testing or certification?
Anyone and everyone can just pick up a pair of clippers and start advertising themselves as a groomer and charge people for a service they aren’t trained to perform.
It’s completely up to you, the owner, to do your research and make sure the person you are trusting with the health and safety of your pet is qualified to care for them.
Every groomer should be trained, and that very basic training takes months.
It takes years to truly master the ins and outs of grooming and everything that goes along with it.
Pet grooming is so much more than just a hair style.
*It’s knowing dog behavior and how to safely handle all the different personalities and quirks.
*It’s recognizing health conditions that would be better suited seeing a vet such as skin or ear infections.
*It’s being prepared for any and all emergencies that can happen, from seizures to allergic reactions, to nicks and cuts and quicked toenails without panicking.
*It’s knowing how to best deal with a variety of coat types properly.
*It’s being able to know when to stop a service on a particular dog due to behavior or health.
*It’s having the knowledge and patience to handle a different species while holding razor sharp clippers or 8 inch long scissors.
At the very least, the groomer you use should seek out continuing education to make sure they are current on the changes in the industry, from upgrades in products to tools that make the process easier for the pet and them.
They should be current on their pet cpr/first aid certification which needs repeated every couple of years.
They should be able to answer your grooming related questions with knowledge and confidence and if they don’t know the answer they should know where to find it.
They should have an emergency plan in place with a local veterinarian in case anything happens, because when working with animals it’s not a matter of if something happens, but when.
They should come recommended by other pet owners and pet professionals.
And it’s worth noting that there is nothing wrong with using a groomer that is still in training, but they should be working alongside an experienced groomer and under their direct supervision.
Ask the questions, after all you are paying them for a service. A groomer who has spent time and money to be as educated as possible is excited to share their knowledge!

Happy hump day! Busy day! Malie was very excited to play with Marley and Colby! Colby decided that Chandler was pretty cool and the 2 played under my feet while I was grooming Peterson. Not sure how I didn’t fall over those boys today!!

Happy Tuesday! I took yesterday off since I’m working Saturday. Chandler did get a bath & a haircut. Have I mentioned we adopted another standard poodle?? He has stage 3 kidney disease, which we knew going into this journey. He is 1 1/2 years old and currently has very few symptoms for such progressed kidney disease. We may only get 2 years with him, but he will be spoiled while we have him. ❤️

It was HOT today! I did spend 12 hrs without power after last nights storms! Finally got it back on around noon, gave the house time to cool off and managed 2 littles for today.

Holy cow! Today was super busy! I’m going to fire the secretary, her ability to schedule appointments is awful!! She was testing my hands today! Apollo also came by this evening for his mani/pedi today!

All boys to start the week! I love how both schnauzer boys are peeking out from under their eyebrows at me!! Winston was a solid 3 hrs of bathing, drying, clipping and sc******ng!!

A little clip of this morning’s playtime. Here are a few other things we’ve learned about Ralph… Kitty neutral Doing amazing with house training!! He had 1 urine accident yesterday, but that was completely our fault. Doesn’t like wet grass, which is why they were playing on the concrete Learning that kennels are not scary. He does have an off switch! For a 6 month old pup he’s a dream! Dog beds are more comfortable than the floor.
Maizy made a new friend today ❤️ Waylon is such a good boy! I am extremely protective of my puppy, because of her legs (she’s crippled). Her legs have never slowed her down, but I’m still very cautious. #she_doesnt_know_shes_crippled #standardpoodle #goldenretriever
