Meet Kesha! She has recently spent time in a foster home. Here is what the foster volunteer had to say about her:

- She has been around the other resident dog in the home and resident cat.

- She would be comfortable in either a medium/low energy household or a higher energy household. She likes the balance of exercise and being around people as well as being able to snuggle up and relax on the couch.

- She walks great on a leash, sleeps well at night, is crate trained, and does great on car rides.

- She is protective of her food with other dogs, but does great as long as she is fed separately.

Say hello to Gatsby! This gentle guy spent some time in a foster home recently. Here is what his foster parent has to say about him:

He is shy and needs a confident dog owner who is patient. He is loving and sweet. I believe he will be a very loyal companion.

- Loves belly rubs, doesn't enjoy the cold weather, jumps around and spins when you come into the room, and he likes routines.

- He did great on his own in the house without crate training. No destruction or accidents. He appeared to have slept the whole time.

- He's a picky eater, likes Simply Nourish Can Chicken Pate most times. Likes raw hides usually.

- Gatsby LOVES cars/vehicles and wants to enter everyone he passes by. This is great because he jumps right in and you don't have to help him up. However, he is very reluctant to exit cars and usually requires some physical assistance.

- He knows 'sit' and is very gentle. He is quiet and calm. He is house trained. He likes plush toys and is a light chewer for raw hides.

- Low energy! This nervous nelly wants to be by your side and snuggle as much as possible. He checks in often with handler on walks and if he becomes unsure of where you are headed he will submissively lay down and roll over. He is learning to become confident and might become more energized after that, but currently is very low energy.

Can you imagine having nowhere to go when temperatures are subzero? Be a hero!
If you find a stray dog outdoors and you can keep it somewhere dry, like a garage while you try to contact the owner, please do so. Otherwise, our after hours kennels are open to the public when our lobbies are closed. Denver Animal Shelter is open daily at 11am for dropping off stray animals.

Due to the upcoming subzero temperatures, we are cancelling our weekend vaccine clinic. Stay inside and stay warm! Vaccine clinics will resume on Saturday, January 25. We look forward to serving you then.

Protect your pets! Subzero cold is on the way this weekend! Brrrr! Please bring pets indoors. Otherwise, you must provide adequate shelter or risk an animal cruelty or neglect charge. Sgt. Noah Imai explains in this video.

We are incredibly grateful for our very supportive community! Over the last few months, more than 200 of you opened up your hearts and your wallets for our 2024 Holiday Fund Drive and helped us surpass our goal of $50,000! Wow! We understand money is tight, so we so appreciate every cent you gave to care for our homeless animals while they wait for their forever families to find them.

Funds raised from drives like these go to support extra enrichment opportunities for animals in our care, help pay for emergency medical procedures, provide supplies for our foster program and allow us to provide the best quality of life for pets while they await their forever homes.

In addition to that, the outpouring of in kind donations like towels, lick mats, peanut butter, treats, and more has been immeasurable this season.

Congrats to Hunter for getting adopted by his new family last weekend! We had so many of our pups that had been with us for a while find homes recently. We are over the moon. It's the best way to start 2025 😄

"I adopted Layla a little over a week ago. We changed her name is Alabama and she’s doing incredibly well. She is so insanely sweet, happy, hilarious, goofy, grateful and just amazing! We have been having a ton of fun at dog parks and she has so many new toys now that she really loves! She is the best ever! Thank you!"

Denver Animal Shelter hosts a low cost vaccine clinic every Saturday and Sunday year round from 9am-11am. These services are first come, first serve. Make sure your pets are up to date on their vaccines and if not, come see us. We also offer microchips for $25 during our vaccine clinics.

🚨 Training treats needed 🚨

Crystal and her other dog friends at the shelter are hoping you could donate some soft training treats. We are completely out and the pups really enjoy the treats when interacting with the volunteers and staff. Training treats help them come out of their shell and get more comfortable in a stressful environment. Please visit our Amazon wishlist for our most used treats!

❤️ Adoption Update ❤️

"In October I adopted an Australian cattle dog mix you called Lurch. We have changed his name to Midnight.

We moved to a large ranch and he's doing great. He loves to run and explore. He does great off leash and loves to play with other dogs, though the cat still doesn't like him lol. Here's a few pictures of how he's doing. I may stop by again when we are more settled to adopt again. "
