Welcome to your pup's VACATION DESTINATION on the Ottertail River, just outside of Frazee, MN! The urge to take care of animals never left.

Since the time I was old enough to know what a "job" was, I wanted to be a vet. After working for veterinarians throughout high school and finishing college as a prevet student, apparently for some reason I thought I liked kids as much as animals and ended up going into teaching. After 14 years in a middle school science classroom and being named one of Minnesota's Teacher of the Year Finalists in

2020, I decided to take some time away from teaching to spend with my two young boys. After owning and raising several dogs that "only a mother could love", I knew it was my chance to again do something with animals. In July of 2021, we opened Knotty Dog. It has truly been a dream to give dogs a different kind of boarding experience! It is my happy place, and hopefully it is the dog's happy place as well! I get to smile and play with them every day, and can't thank you enough for helping this dream come true!

Seriously.... this is how much fun I get to have! We had awkward Christmas photos, ugly sweaters, amazing treats, and a visit from Santa for our Christmas Pawty today!

I am so incredibly grateful to the amazing friends that share these guys with me and never judge my pintrest aspirations 🤣 YOU all are one of the greatest blessings I could ever ask for! Thank you... HaPpY HoLiDaYs!!

Well...... a sad day indeed 😔

Wilma has been with me for over 4 years now. She has not left my side unless dropped, lost in the snow or swamp, or fallen out of a pocket that may have had a hole in it from the dogs trying to get treats out. She has taken tens of thousands of pictures, and has been out of storage space for at least 1/3rd of her life. But she never quits. She has slept in a bag of rice more times than I can count. The crack on her camera lens adds the best light to her photos, and her battery is really like no other I've ever known.

Today I will do my last photo dump with her.... so please forgive the mostly snapchat photos.... she gave it her all but we don't have any more camera space 😭 I know there's a cloud storage out there somewhere waiting for her.

Rest in peace, Wilma. I hate to say goodbye but here's to hoping Wendy proves just as reliable and resilient!

Definitely one of my FaVoRiTe weeks of the year!!

This year's Haunted Trail theme: 👻 GhOsTs 👻 of Halloween Costumes Past!

I have too much fun setting this up and watching them! It is always amazing to see their behaviors and instincts adjust within the pack when there is something new on a trail they've probably run 100's of times! They gain so much confidence and are hilarious! 🤪

Today is World Mental Health day.... and I just have to give thanks to this big gentle giant! She has allowed me to pursue a long-time passion of helping people through the love of animals. We are both so lucky to be able to continue our therapy work together and are always here if anyone needs a team!

And she turned 2 yesterday 😊 Happy birthday, partner!

Our Story

I wanted to be a vet since the time I was 4 years old... After many years of working with vets and completing a Biology degree on a prevet track in college, it turned out I loved kids too and picked up a teaching gig. After 14 years of teaching middle school science and having the honor of being one of the top 10 teachers in the state this year, I still love kids, but the urge to do something for animals has never wavered.

Having been the owner of some of those "only a mother can love" dogs, I know how hard it was for me to find a place to board them... they pretty much drove everyone but me crazy! From Labs to Aussies, Pitbulls to Rat Terriers, I’ve loved them all! That's where the inspiration for this adventure stems from.... we may not have flat-screen t.v.'s, but we have room to run and two young boys who love to play! We are excited to provide those dogs that need a little extra love and attention a place where they will feel at home.
