Since the time I was old enough to know what a "job" was, I wanted to be a vet. After working for veterinarians throughout high school and finishing college as a prevet student, apparently for some reason I thought I liked kids as much as animals and ended up going into teaching. After 14 years in a middle school science classroom and being named one of Minnesota's Teacher of the Year Finalists in

2020, I decided to take some time away from teaching to spend with my two young boys. After owning and raising several dogs that "only a mother could love", I knew it was my chance to again do something with animals. In July of 2021, we opened Knotty Dog. It has truly been a dream to give dogs a different kind of boarding experience! It is my happy place, and hopefully it is the dog's happy place as well! I get to smile and play with them every day, and can't thank you enough for helping this dream come true!

Definitely one of my FaVoRiTe weeks of the year!!

This year's Haunted Trail theme: 👻 GhOsTs 👻 of Halloween Costumes Past!

I have too much fun setting this up and watching them! It is always amazing to see their behaviors and instincts adjust within the pack when there is something new on a trail they've probably run 100's of times! They gain so much confidence and are hilarious! 🤪

Today is World Mental Health day.... and I just have to give thanks to this big gentle giant! She has allowed me to pursue a long-time passion of helping people through the love of animals. We are both so lucky to be able to continue our therapy work together and are always here if anyone needs a team!

And she turned 2 yesterday 😊 Happy birthday, partner!

One of our FAVORITE days of the year (well maybe not Nola 😜)! We love Watercarnival week and the awesome people that make this town soooo much fun!

Luckily our cop caught these robbers and made them give the candy back, and our Princess made sure her unicorn's horn stayed put 🤣😂🤣

I cannot believe we are in our 5th year! Summer sure looks a little different around here.... 😜

I am very blessed to have such wonderful dogs and PEOPLE in my life. Many of you have become such valued friends! As my kiddos get older and busier, I feel very fortunate to be able to do something I love while also raising my family. After 15 years of teaching, I appreciate the flexibility and just plain FUN that I get to have every day!

Someone commented to me the other day in conversation that "I wasn't there for them when they needed someone to watch their dog". If you know me, you know I take this job very personally and love every dog that comes to stay! But after 5 years, I can also freely admit that I can't do it all! 🤪 It is not feasible for me to be here every day all day. I am very particular about the care given to MY dogs, and want them to have the very best experience possible when they are here. I like it small. I like knowing every little quirk about each of them! And while I am also extremely grateful for my awesome family that helps out, sometimes life happens and I can't juggle it all ❤️

So while I do understand how inconvenient it is if I am full or unable to take dogs some days, I am also completely grateful for soooo many of you that continue to be flexible and understanding with me, as well as the many other dog boarders in the area that help fill the need!

Cheers to year #5 and my current streak of loving dogs for 1️⃣0️⃣6️⃣ days straight.... looking forward to the rest of my summer dogs and a short break before school starts again!

Our Story

I wanted to be a vet since the time I was 4 years old... After many years of working with vets and completing a Biology degree on a prevet track in college, it turned out I loved kids too and picked up a teaching gig. After 14 years of teaching middle school science and having the honor of being one of the top 10 teachers in the state this year, I still love kids, but the urge to do something for animals has never wavered.

Having been the owner of some of those "only a mother can love" dogs, I know how hard it was for me to find a place to board them... they pretty much drove everyone but me crazy! From Labs to Aussies, Pitbulls to Rat Terriers, I’ve loved them all! That's where the inspiration for this adventure stems from.... we may not have flat-screen t.v.'s, but we have room to run and two young boys who love to play! We are excited to provide those dogs that need a little extra love and attention a place where they will feel at home.
