Meet Dog Trainer Meredith!

Meredith originates from a small farming community in rural Missouri, where as a child she showed and trained dogs, and rabbits at the county fair. Meredith grew up as the daughter of a veterinarian, which taught her animal husbandry skills at a young and biddable age.

Inspired by animals, Meredith interned under Tim Franks at On Command Canine Training in Joplin, Missouri. After six months of studies in 2018, she graduated at the top of her class. Consequently, doors opened. Meredith worked alongside Warrior Dogs Foundation, a non-profit organization which trains service dogs.

In 2020 Meredith uprooted to Portland, to pursue coursework at Portland Community College.

In her free time you may find Meredith hiking, riding dirt bikes, or bicycling with a dog at her side.

We are happy to have Meredith on our team!

Meet our company founder, Tanya!

Her original inspiration for becoming a professional dog trainer began while working at the Colorado Humane Society. During her employment a clear pattern emerged. Dogs with behavior issues were the first to be relinquished and the last to be adopted.

With no dog training options, something needed to change. This inspired her to apprentice under several dog trainers at the Dumb Friends League. After an apprenticeship and lots of stumbling, she accepted a dog trainer position. It was her responsibility to train dogs who failed their behavior assessment. Some dogs were enrolled for common issues like jumping. Other dogs were enrolled for serious issues like dog aggression. Working seven full years in animal shelters blessed her with the opportunity to work with thousands of dogs.

People working in animal shelters will tell you that the highs are HIGH. And the lows are LOW. Nothing competes with the high of watching a dog leave the building with a loving family. Nothing competes with the low of kissing your failures on the nose, and whispering goodbye as they cross Rainbow Bridge.

Motivated by the latter, it became clear that her skills could save more lives by proactively training family dogs before relinquishment was a serious consideration.

Meet Ron!

Ron’s professional journey with dogs began in Fall of 2005 when he walked shelter dogs for the Colorado Humane Society. Fresh out of flight school, Ron lacked the time and financial resources to have a dog of his own. Unbeknownst to him, walking shelter dogs would open the door to future opportunities.

Ron transported dogs for Big Dogs Huge Paws Rescue in a Cessna airplane he converted to transport 100+ pound shelter dogs. During this time, he learned how to calm dogs during potentially stressful airplane trips, as he transported giant breeds to newly adopted families. Ron was also a puppy foster parent for the Dumb Friends League, where he developed skills in puppy-rearing and animal husbandry. This taught him how to raise confident family dogs.

Ron is Pavlov’s left-brained Chief Financial Officer and has been so since the company’s founding in 2012. Ron mentored under Tanya Cardwell to expand his dog training skills and spent several years training puppies out of his home.

When not balancing Pavlov’s budget, you might find Ron piloting a Boeing 747 at an elevation of 36,000 feet above planet earth.

Meet Pavlov dog trainer, Kylah Lenz!

Kylah received a certificate from the Michael Ellis School for dog trainers in Santa Rosa, California. Upon graduation, Kylah moved to Patras, Greece where she helped and-train business called ‘The Balanced Canine’. She conducted lessons, evaluations, training, socializing, and behavior modification.

Kylah appreciated the experience and returned to the United States to accept a position as a board-and-train trainer in Arvada, Colorado. She lived on-site in one of the spare rooms, so the dogs could have someone overseeing their care even after hours. This experience combined with sport-dog work, and a certificate with backbone, caught our attention. Cue Kylah’s employment with Pavlov as the Lead Dog Trainer for the Denver branch.

After working there for some time, she felt a calling to work with board-and-train dogs in Portland.

Outside of work, you can find Kylah and her Malinois dabbling in various dog sports including mondioring which includes a combination of scent tracking, obedience, and protection sports.

We are blessed to have Kylah!

Meet our Marketing Director, Megan!

Megan comes to Pavlov with a wealth of experience in dog training. Upon graduating from Starmark Academy for Professional Dog Trainers, she opened and operated her own kennel and dog training business in her hometown in Indiana.

Having satisfied her desire to own and operate a business, Megan and her family moved to Denver to seek opportunities to focus more on training dogs, and we are fortunate to have her on our team!

After working in our Denver facility for a year, Megan switched to working remotely to spend more time with her family. Megan lives with two dogs, her husband Blake, and her two young boys. When Megan isn't marketing for Pavlov you can find her hiking with her family or training her Border Collie.

Dog parks and doggy daycare doesn't work for every dog and every owner, but there are other ways to let your dog socialize.

These are great ideas to try out, not only for dogs that are slow to warm up, but for dogs that get TOO excited around dogs.

Adding in some structured socialization time can help your dog learn to control themselves around other canines!
