I had to share this, I’m so happy about it. When I got Willie she weighed 315 grams and was very sick. Her sternum bone was very sharp and pointed and she nearly died just from the move. The vet said a healthy weight for her would be around 400 grams, but it’s taken a long time to get her to gain anything. I recently noticed she’d gained, and weighed her and she’s all the way to 360! This is a really big deal! Her lungs seem clear, she doesn’t pop when she breathes, and her weight is up, and I’m so glad she’s doing well. It’s sure been a journey with this one! 🥰

Happy New Year! I hope this year brings you all good things. We’ve been busy over here, doing our best to keep everyone happy, and so far we’ve succeeded! The bird room has a TV now, since they can’t go outside, and Oliver’s favorite word from the Disney movies is “HELP!” 😂

We haven’t had room to take in or foster any emergencies, but we have been able to help about ten birds this fall either find a good home or get directed to whatever help they needed, like boarding, vet care, or pigeon rescue.

I’ve been contemplating where to go from here, honestly. I considered starting a legit rescue but I stink at fundraising and vet care is expensive, and if I do it I want to do it well, which we can’t afford right now. I looked into becoming a licensed aviary, but I’m not business minded and it would probably sink us like so many small businesses have done to others since 2020. So for now, The Furry Glen is just going to stay what it is, one little girl’s dream of growing up and having a room just for my animals, and doing what I can to help others as I raise tiny things and take good care of what I already have. I’m just a mom with a bird hobby, which was what I always wanted, and I’m ok with that for now. When we can we’ll expand, but probably not this year.

Hazel hatched a baby lovebird today. I’ll try to get pictures but it’s her first and I don’t want to freak her out. I’m so proud of her, and she’s so proud of her baby. The future is bright, and the birds are happy. 🥰

My Christmas present this year is getting Chuckles to finally say “I love you!” 🥰 She said it so loud and so clearly my daughter heard it from the living room. My goodness, I love this bird.

I am so excited about the bird room divider! The little birds can’t bother the big birds, Angel can’t bite the little birds, Chuckles can’t reach Yoshi, and everyone will get to be out of cages all winter long. The kids won’t have to be scared of the bird room if Angel is out anymore. 😆 The aviary has a few finishing touches left, I have to put another layer of wire, and then this year’s projects are finally done. Hopefully it’s going to be a peaceful winter in the bird room! 😁

Taxi wants to be friends and Willie isn’t as sure but they are getting along! Willie has really been missing Ellie and Oliver is less of a friend than a cranky husband sometimes to Taxi. 😂 I really want this to happen!

Learning to grow things was on my to-do list this year. The aviary is still waiting for the patio door, but Willie and Angel seem to be content to watch me gather herbs for drying in the greenhouse. ☺️ As long as Angel doesn’t learn to pick my veggies I think it’s all good. 😆
