GGBR rescues, restores and rehomes Basset Hounds across northern California. NO PREMISES - WE ARE FOSTER HOME BASED. We exist solely on donations.

As a non-political organization, the views of our Board, volunteers and supporters are personal to those individuals and do not reflect the views of our non-profit. We were formed in 2005 after operating for nearly ten years under the Northern California Basset Hound Club. Today, GGBR is a 501(c)(3), not-for-profit organization. GGBR takes orphaned bassets into foster care, usually in volunteer ho

mes, where they are loved and cared for until permanent, forever homes are found. We provide veterinary care, which includes necessary vaccinations, spaying and neutering, heartworm prevention, flea and tick prevention. Our hounds are microchipped with 24PetWatch.com microchips, and when adopted out come with 30 days gift insurance cover courtesy of ShelterCare. Our wonderful volunteers spend time with the dogs to evaluate them, deal with any behavioral issues, and restore them to full health with good food and love.

First Place Prize (12) – The 12 entrants with the next highest number of votes will appear in a month of the GGBR Calendar 2025. Preferences for months will be considered, but the Board of GGBR reserve the right to make the final decision on allocation of months to individual dogs.

Conditional Prize (open to any entrant) - If your entry receives more than 100 votes you will receive one free copy of the GGBR Calendar 2025.

Meet calendar contestant Lucy, age 13 from Hercules, CA.

A little about me...
This picture was taken in 2018 while we were on a walk at Crissy Field. Lucy is a rescue from Milo Foundation who I adopted when she was around one and a half. Since this picture was taken Lucy has had two back surgeries, and she is still in doggy physical therapy every other week. Because she never wanted to go into the water past her toes when we were at the beach, and hates it when Mama is out of her sight (it’s just the two of us), I was afraid she wouldn’t cooperate with the rehab process. But the staff at the rehab center have been great with her, and now rehab is one of her favorite places.
Lucy is a certified emotional support dog, who helps me deal with my depression and anxiety, especially social anxiety. She has so many friends around my apartment complex that she has to say hi to every time she sees them, and has helped me come out of my shell in many ways. The biggest thing she has helped me with is getting up enough nerve to go to my first meeting so I could participate in the Dicken’s Christmas Fair. Now we are Dicken’s Fair veterans, having participated together in six Fairs. Because of her back problems we can’t walk around like we used to, but I found a job where she and I stay in an office. She has her own ‘throne’ (an ottoman without any legs) where she relaxes while entertaining the guests.

Even being 8 years apart, Norman’s houndsome blood lines clearly run strong because their pawrents call them the twins. Dolly is a typical annoying little niece and has to copy everything Norman does but keeps him young, they never stop playing together!

A little about me...
Penny, Millie and Sherman all came to us from GGBR, as have most of the adult bassets we have rescued over the past twenty years. Penny was rehabed by Golden Gate after suffering a broken back as a puppy. We adopted her as her first family after rehab and she has been the sweetest, most affectionate of a breed already known for those traits. Sherman is what we call an Orthodox basset hound; he loves food and sleeping in bed above all else, and is gentle and peaceful with everyone. Millie is the oldest and prefers if people mind their own business and don’t ask too many questions about what she gets up to.

A little about me...
Casey was our best friend. She was 7 years old when we adopted her in 2022 from GGBR, but you’d never know it! She had the energy of a 3 year old! She lived the best 2 years filled with a lot of love, walks, and family. She was well known by everyone who came into her path as the sweetest dog they’d ever met. She was a bright light! Casey was diagnosed with late-stage Lymphoma at the end of January 2024. We had 6 weeks with her and were grateful for every minute. We miss her every day. Until we meet again over the Rainbow Bridge!
