Golden Gate Basset Rescue GGBR rescues, restores and rehomes Basset Hounds across northern California. NO PREMISES - WE ARE FOSTER HOME BASED. We exist solely on donations.

As a non-political organization, the views of our Board, volunteers and supporters are personal to those individuals and do not reflect the views of our non-profit. We were formed in 2005 after operating for nearly ten years under the Northern California Basset Hound Club. Today, GGBR is a 501(c)(3), not-for-profit organization. GGBR takes orphaned bassets into foster care, usually in volunteer ho

mes, where they are loved and cared for until permanent, forever homes are found. We provide veterinary care, which includes necessary vaccinations, spaying and neutering, heartworm prevention, flea and tick prevention. Our hounds are microchipped with 24PetWatch.com microchips, and when adopted out come with 30 days gift insurance cover courtesy of ShelterCare. Our wonderful volunteers spend time with the dogs to evaluate them, deal with any behavioral issues, and restore them to full health with good food and love.

Golden Gate Basset Rescue relies totally on the generosity of our supporters to carry out the rescue work we do. We ensure that no basset hound in northern California must fear ending up in a shelter. No owner needs to feel desperate because they can no longer care for their hound. We take hounds in and place them in our network of wonderful foster homes that provide warm beds and good food, and GGBR pays all their medical bills to make sure they are in the best health when we match them with their forever homes. Please make your donation today!

Did you know GGBR has a Fidelity Investment account, that can accept non-cash gifts of assets like stocks and bonds? We would like to grow this fund, which assures the future of GGBR not just in this year, but for the long term.

It was quite a year for GGBR with a an extreme hoarder intake of hounds, nine forever fosters and a 9 week-old puppy coming to us with Swimmer Puppy Syndrome as just some of the highlights.

As we look back on the past year, we want to recognize the many generous people who have helped us. Our Donors, our Members, our Adopters, our Foster Homes, and our Volunteers!

We have taken in 48 dogs to date in 2024, with three more pending intake, making almost one basset hound a week rescued - and 43 dogs have been successfully adopted.

Update on Nemo December 21:

Nemo, the little 9 week old basset puppy who came to GGBR on December 14, due to his being unable to use his hind legs to walk is making some progress. He has been diagnosed with Swimmer Puppy Syndrome, also known as flat puppy syndrome, which is a rare developmental deformity in newborn puppies that affect their ability to walk or stand. The primary symptom is the splayed out position of the legs, in Nemo’s case the rear legs , resembling a swimmer, which prevents the dog from bearng weight. With physiotherapy throughout the day, massage, taping of the rear legs and good nutrition, there is hope that he will continue to progress. He is able to use his legs now for a few steps which is very hopeful.

Nemo is a special happy little guy who is very determined to walk! If you can help toward the cost of the veterinary care for his treatment, it will be much appreciated by GGBR and by Nemo.

Newly adopted (November) Olivia escaped from her yard in Lodi - near the junction of W Century Blvd and S Mills Ave.

She is small, just 16 months old, and is very sweet. This is the post from the owner:

“My dog got out of the fence! Last seen near our home but unable to locate her! Her name is Olivia and she was last seen around Century and Mills area. Please if you see her contact me! She’s really sweet. Not aggressive at all. She likes soft voices (almost baby talk). She’s skiddish but she loves attention and will probably come to you. Thank you so much!”

Please get in touch and call the rescue line and leave a message - 707-765-2690) if you see her. We can put you in touch with her adopter.

If you don’t live near Lodi, please watch your Facebook or other social media feeds for anyone posting about finding her!

Thank you.

Meet little Nemo, an 8 week old loving little fellow who just came into GGBR on December 14 and is being fostered in an experienced and loving foster home. He is unable to walk due to an as yet undiagnosed issue with his back legs. He is a very determined houndie who wants to walk but is not able to make those back legs of his do what they need to do. He has an appointment next week with a veterinary specialist.

It is suspected that he may have Swimmer Puppy Syndrome. We will know more about his condition at his veterinary appointment on Tuesday.

Nemo is a special happy little guy who clearly needs help. If you can help toward the cost of his veterinary care, it will be much appreciated. 🙏🏻

The 12th annual Giving Tuesday is on December 3 this year. You will see lots of appeals for end of year giving to charitable organizations and we hope you will remember GGBR if you plan to give!

We haven’t stopped asking for your donations all year, but the cost of rescuing nearly 50 hounds is high, and we couldn’t do it without your ongoing dollar support.

This is the start of our Annual appeal for end-of-year donations. As a 501c3, your donations qualify as a tax deduction (of course, seek professional advice). It’s the best way to offset the Required Minimum Distribution from retirement accounts or claim deductions on your tax return.

Click the donate button below to donate via PayPal/Credit Card or send a check (made payable to GGBR) to PO Box 4958, Petaluma, CA 94955. Please note your donation with ‘End of Year’ if you can. We do have an ongoing Giving Grid that you may see on our social media accounts:

https://www.givinggrid.com/GGBR

You may also donate via Venmo (a PayPal product), which costs us less than a regular donation made with PayPal.

Goose, as he is now named, is in a foster home and has an adoptive home waiting for him. He will be moving to his forever home as soon as his vetting is completed. He is a bassador, Basset Labrador, and a very handsome one. Thank you volunteers and donors for making his new chapter in life possible through GGBR.

Niles Festival of Lights Parade😄

Friday, November 29

Van decoration starting 4:30 pm, Parade starts 6:30 pm

Join us for this fun parade! Work off that Thanksgiving Dinner with a short stroll down Niles Boulevard to celebrate the start of the holidays.

It’s our only Parade in 2024, so please join us and show the thousands lining the parade route our beautiful, fun-loving basset hounds!

Grab your battery-operated lights to decorate yourself and your hounds! We will have some available for you.

You are ready to SHINE!!

Please find us at our staging point on Niles Blvd by 5:30 p.m. so we can be ready for the parade at 6:30 p.m. The Christmas Tree lighting is at 6 p.m., and music will entertain you on the Plaza before that.

The volunteer team will be at the staging point by 4:30 pm if anyone wants to join us to decorate the Rescue Van.

The Niles District of Fremont is a cute area with excellent shopping and dining options (including dog-friendly outdoor seating); it’s easily accessible from both 880 and 680, has lots of parking, and we strongly recommend arriving earlier in the afternoon and enjoying a browse down Niles Boulevard.

Roads on the parade route will close for entry at 4 pm and won’t open for exit until after the parade, around 9 pm. There is plenty of street parking outside the barriers, but it will get more complicated to park the later you arrive!

Free Registration is encouraged but not essential.

Friends and family are welcome to either parade with us or watch!

Free optional registration…

BIDDING CLOSES TONIGHT, 11/24, 9:00 pm PST.

Thanks to all who donated items!
Here’s a friendly reminder to revisit the auction site before it closes - and to set your alarm to revisit in the last 15 minutes to keep an eye on your bids!

Note - you can set a ‘maximum’ bid, that you are willing to pay for the item. If someone bids against you, the system will automatically increase your bid (in the stated increments) until you are either the winning bid, or your maximum is reached!

18/11/2024

Re*****on was surrendered by two gentlemen who rescued him from a family that had given him to thier kids as a Christmas present who then became bored with him. Re*****on stayed with them for a month but then due to their own health issues they realized they would not be able to care for a puppy and surrendered him to GGBR to stay with a foster family. They were originally told that the mother was a Basset Hound and the father a Lab, but he resembles a Basset/Plot Hound more than a Basset/Lab. The veterinarian who has treated Re*****on, was opposed to neutering him until he was a year old due to showing some joint issues.

Re*****on has been neutered and is now happily adopted! Thank you to our volunteers, fosters and donors who make these success stories possible.

Here is Inky, formerly known as Levi, as an adoption success story living his best life and celebrating his Gotcha Day. He is one lucky hound to have the family that he has! He has had many fun new experiences and lots of patience to work with him on things he isn’t accustomed to making his life a happy success.

GGBR loves hearing your success stories! They are a great reward for all of the hard work and effort that our Board and volunteers put forth. 😃🙏🏻

To help the hounds.....

Support GGBR’s mission by entering our Auction😃
By entering, you are helping to make sure that NO Basset Hound gets left behind in northern California and the Reno/Sparks area of Nevada. No basset hound will die in a shelter, and owners who can no longer care for their hounds have somewhere to turn for help in rehoming their dogs.

We rely totally on donations from people like YOU! We hope that you find items you like in this collection and will bid often and BID HIGH!

Please share this fundraiser with your family and friends so they can get involved too. Post it to your pages, share it to everyone you know, and help us to get the message out! 🙏🏻
