I know its been a long time since we've posted and I apologize for the inactivity. Unfortunately life has thrown me multiple curve balls, the biggest of which was being struck by another driver in early Dec. 2022. My pickup truck was totaled and the wreck has resulted in significant financial damage and personal injury. It put me out of commission through December and most of January, ruining my breeding schedule for 2023 and negatively impacting my rodent feeder colonies. I am still dealing with mental and physical complications from the accident, which make it difficult for me to continue to pursue my passion for breeding pythons with the same vigor as before. As a result I have decided that I must significantly downsize to make sure I can focus on personal health and family. I am making the bulk of my collection available for sale at reduced prices. I would like to thank all of you that follow my page and share my passion for my reptiles and I hope that I will be able to find a way to continue to contribute to the hobby in the future once I have established some stability following this turmoil. More posts with available animals and equipment to follow.

Decided to trim open Rheas clutch this morning since they were 2 days late and my partner was worried she felt rigored embryos.

Good news, they were all alive and Rhea proved out two clowns with gacey's headstamp! Bad news, my partners concerns were validated when we found a baby that formed beneath the yolk and a second badly deformed hatchling that had a spine like an accordian.

We were able to upright the one that was upside-down down before it punctured the amniotic sac, so thankfully it didnt drown. Unfortunately the deformed one was so badly kinked it didnt make it once it started absorbing the yolk. This is very likely another 3+ yr retained s***m botchup. The sire I've been pairing Rhea to for the past 2 years does not have any yellowbelly, enchi, or granite complex genes and it appears the kinked baby and the non-clowns may. Its been a rough and wacky year, these proven ladies keep drawing badly aged retained s***m :/

Seriously reconsidering my protocol for handling the induction of proven female breeders and planning to do a shakedown of the incubator to triple check there havnt been any hidden technical issues.

As with any hobby or career with animal husbandry, sometimes the reproduction process goes awry and there just isnt anything more you can do to save your babies. I was so excited this year when Ethel laid an 11 egg clutch after locking with my Mardi Gras. Unfortunately, I didnt know at the time that it'd take a gruesome turn. Out of the inital 11 eggs, 6 were non viable duds. They exhibited no vein development and began to decompose after 2 weeks. Then, out of the remaining 5, three more went bad in the 10 days leading up to the hatch date. Despite my best efforts to preserve these eggs, autopsies revealed there was little to be done. It seems Ethel had a split clutch this year. Two eggs were from Louis (the healthy ones) and the rest from at least two and a half year old retained s***m. This retained s***m was from a pairing to a Queenbee in 2018 with her prior owner. It seems this s***m did not age well and the three eggs that did develop embryos from it formed non-viable organisms. These poor babies suffered from severe spinal kinks and suffered from umbilical cord strangulation. For those of you interested, I have posted images of the non-viable embryos below. It is graphic and it is not a pleasant sight, but it is something to be aware of getting into the hobby.

Sadly, Ethels 10 egg clutch is down to just 4 eggs. 5 of the originals turned out to be duds with no veins. Following the "incubate until no debate" rule, they were separated and left in the incubator with antifungal treatment until they soured. Today, we lost one of the 5 that had good veins to what appears to be umbilical interference in embryonic development.
