It’s weaning time! We always let our mamas lead the way in terms of weaning, and Birdie has decided the time is now 💫Which means the pups are now getting puppy kibble mush 3-4 times a day, and are MESSY all the time now 🤣 It’s killing me a little to see their beautiful coats get so wet and dirty every day now and covered in dog food mush, but I know it’s just a phase and soon they’ll learn how to eat dry food and have clean fluffy coats again haha. Birdie is still being the ever attentive mama and helping to clean up after them a bit as well. We’re taking advantage of this warm weather to also start getting them in the habit of going outside to potty first thing in the morning. Then they get to hang in their outdoor covered playpen area for the day, and then they go out again in the bigger yard area to potty, play, and eat at lunch time and then again at dinner. Around sunset they move inside to their playpen area inside, get LOTS of cuddles and playtime with our kiddos, and go out for a yard potty one more time right before we all go to bed and turn the lights out. We find these last few weeks are the most work (constant cleaning mostly) but also the most fun with the pups! 🐾 #hillcrestlabradoodles #thisis4weeks #labradoodlepuppies
Rainy Saturdays are made for nap time and snuggling with puppies. Ok, Oakland is the one napping while I work on my laptop, but still! He’s such a cool, chill boy and officially Deacon’s favorite. I think he’s SO handsome 😍 He will definitely have a straighter/light wave shaggy coat compared to his littermates that will have the tight poodle curls. He will definitely be fluffy though, don’t let the short puppy coat fool you! We are FIRM believers in crate training. Dogs love the feeling of a den. It helps keep them safe when they’re still going through their teething/puppy phases, and chances are in their life they will need to be crated- overnight at the vet, traveling, boarding, etc. Crates are a peaceful place for them to retreat and feel relaxed. We start practice with all of our puppies before they go home, so they have positive associations with being without their littermates in a crate. This isn’t to say it’s a magic wand- expect night time crying as they adjust to being in their new homes.
