We take in guinea pigs in crisis situations where the animals are in need of veterinary care. Whether the animal has been left on

property, sick or are about to be released into the wild, we will always take in emergency cases if we have the space. If our rescue is full, we will refer you to another rescue organization. Adoption

When you adopt from us, you directly support all the medical costs the animals receive. We examine all the animals who are brought to us. If we cannot treat any medical findings at home, the animals will be brought to our local exotic veterinarian for further treatment. Depending on each case, we will have lab work, x-rays and surgeries done on the animals in our care who need it. When you adopt from us, we will give you all the medical history we have on the animal (whether the animal was seen by our exotic veterinarian or the pervious homes veterinarian.) Adoption Policy

The Royal Cavy Guinea Pig Rescue has the right to deny any adoption applications and families who do not meet our adoption criteria. This means if you are at risk to harming the pet, can not provide for the animals needs financially, will breed the animal, eat or feed the animals to another pet or do not have a good tract record with keeping pets, our rescue has the right to deny your application. In order to adopt from us you must fill out our adoption application and go through a pre adoption screening. We have the right to deny an adoption up to the scheduled adoption date. If for any reason you seem unfit to adopt an animal from us, for example if you show up to the scheduled adoption under the influence of drugs or alcohol, we will not hand you any pet and you will be asked to leave our property. Holding animals

The only was an animal rescue can continue to rescue is if there is a constant demand for adoptions. There are MANY animals being surrender into shelters all across America. Animal shelters can’t keep up with the demand, the same goes to our organization. Because there will always be a constant need for animal surrenders, we do NOT hold onto animals. We are a first come first serve animal rescue. Once you schedule that adoption you will only be able to reschedule it up to three days away from the original date. If you place a deposit on an animal we will only hold those animals for up to a week. If the animals are not adopted at the end of the week, we will consider other families for adoption. I have been running into this problem a lot and have considered these new terms. Surrendering

We are no longer holding a waiting list. Like adoptions, surrendering is first come first serve. There is a 48 hour window you have to surrender your pets to us. We can not guarantee when space will open up. For perspective, I get at least 5-6 calls/messages about surrendering pets. Normally each home has from 4-10 guinea pigs. There is a limit on the amount of animals we take from families. There is a 3 pet limit per family. This three pet limit is only for animals kept in a 3 member herd. If you have 4 pigs in a herd we will only accept 2 of the 4. If you call us to surrender an animal and we do have space, and you call us a week or two to schedule the appointment we can NOT guarantee that space will still be available. What animals do we take in? There has been a few changes to what types of animals we will accept. Please seek the following list below.
1.) Guinea Pigs
2.) Chinchillas
3.) Sugar Gliders
4.) Hedgehogs
5.) Small reptiles

Animals adopted out by us are always welcome back. If we are full on space and can’t accept them at the time, we will help you find them a home

Took stitch to the vet yesterday. Had some concerns about his skin. He’s a bit flakey but could have been due to the mats he had and his coat health previously. As explained he could be sliding off dead skin that was trapped by his bad coat.

For those that don’t know about stitch, he was abused and spent majority of his life (3 years) in a small, damp and dirty cage.

I was also pleased to hear one of the techs mention how curious and active he was compared to the last time he was in. It does take time, patience and a LOT of love to help animals out of their shells.

I also want o thank you all for donating, adopting and boarding with us. I do save they money for medical and becasue of y’all his vet bill had been taken care of.

❤️Pinellas County Florida

1year old sows

We have two sweet girls who are still looking for their forever home. Both girls were dumped on someone’s back porch and grew up some time in the wild.

They were rescued and each had a litter of 4 pups. Now they have been patiently waiting for a new home.

Cilantro (REW) and parsley (tri colored) we’re both named after the food theh like. Since the girls have been in the wild theh are timid. They don’t enjoy handling but can be taught to love it with time. Both girls will eat out of your hand and will come up to you for food.

Nearly every family who has been interested in adopting a pair reject cilantro for her red eyes. Remember red eyes does not make an animal evil or mad it simply mean they have eyes of love!

Not gonna lie I didn’t read this entire post when I shared it. I shared it due to the X-ray finding and simply assumed the animal was hit by a car and was taken to the rescue. My friend messaged me about this post and I took the liberty of reading the entire thing.

Here is my opinion.

This is a horrible incident that led to a horrific and painful end to a small animal. I do not know the age of the children or all the details to form a strong opinion so I will go off what I know. As a parent it is your responsibility to care for any pet you give your kids. If a child can’t take care of themselves they can’t take care of a pet. With that said, younger children MUST be monitored with any pet especially small ones like rabbits. Even holding a rabbit wrong can cause it to panic and lead to a back injury.

The parents responsibility is to monitor any child with any new pet. Why they were allowing the kids to play with the new rabbit the same day and not allowing it to adjust to its surroundings goes to tell you they did not do any research. And the fact it was a rabbit (not a good choice for a child’s pet).

Again I’m not sure of the kids age. Regardless there are kids who do horrific crimes and torture animals and sometimes these children do grow up and continue to do horrific things. As stated above there’s not enough facts or evidence in this story to even state such claims. The children involved in this could have been extremely young and did not understand the reality of their actions. At a young age the human brain is still developing and the ability to know right from wrong can become blurred. If this is the case do they deserved to be prosecuted or called animal abusers? In my opinion, no. Should the parents be charged for animal neglect? Yes.

In the case if the children deliberately did this, knowing they would kill the animal and found joy in doing so, I believe they should be held accountable to some degree.

This year we will attempt to rescue rabbits again.

We have rescued a group of rabbits in the past from being dumped. We were not prepared to take all 5 but time had ran out for them.

This year we will be taking stray rabbits only. This means if you are walking and find a rabbit on the side of the road and pick it up we will take it if we have space. We will not take rabbits that have been rescued off the streets and have been living with you for months or years. Our space is reserved for homeless pets in crisis only.

All rabbits will be spayed and neutered and will be given the RHDV2 vaccine.

We will only be allowing one rabbit at a time. We can not do more than one rabbit.

Our main goal for 2024 is to help get pets off the street. We will be focusing on that accordingly!

Chanel will be our rabbit companion for the stray animals. I had planned to get her a friend but every time I consider getting a new pet I feel selfish. Since she does well with many of the animals here and helped stitch out of his shell, I think she will be able to do the same with other rabbits!

🌹The beauty of red 🌹

Lamb chop has been chosen as our animal ambassador for many reasons. One of those reasons is to help break the stigma for REW animals.

There are a few types of animals that tend to stick around shelters and a handful of them are REW pets.

What is a REW? REWS also know as red eyed whites; are animals with pink or red eyes and white fur. The REW coloring can be found in many small pets such as guinea pigs, rabbits, ferrets, hamsters and so on. Their red eyes is their most undesirable trait. Many fear their red eyes and believe it makes them appear evil, mad or demonic. At our rescue, we like to associate their eyes with love.

The color red has many meanings and is associated with many different things from anger and danger to love and strength. Red is also associated with holdiays such as Christmas and Valentine’s Day!

Did you know that the color red is also connected to the heart? The organ we associate love and passion. Like humans all animals crave love and affection. Animals with red eyes are no different.

Lamb chop is a REW. He has a very special power that all animals with REW eyes have. This power allows him to see into the hearts of people and reflect the love found in them through his eyes. As one of the most affectionate Guinea pigs to come across our rescue, Lamb Chop is always seen grooming his brothers and grandpa. He and many other REWS are beings of love and compassion. So please give these animals a chance.

Do not judge them for how they look! They can not help it.

Next time you come across a REW, do not fear their red eyes, welcome them. They are eyes of love not evil❤️
(I also wanted to note this post was not create to bash anyone. Just to simply offer a different view point for animals with red/pink eyes. We’ve been getting lots of messages about adopting Guinea pigs but have been turned away by all due to the animals red eyes. We currently have two REWS for adoption!)

I don’t like posting selfies but I wanted to share this little moment I had with Ducky. This is a great opportunity to share some insight on reptiles.

There’s a lot of stigma about reptiles, being savage slimy things. In reality all have their own unique personalities. Yes some reptiles perfer to be left alone but there are those who do seek out human attention. Ducky is one of those reptiles.

Chameleons do not like to be handled and most often shouldn’t. But Ducky here, understands that when she sees me she will be fed or taken out to explore. On occasion she will run up to me look at me then climb onto my hand. Curious I think not 🤨😂

Like Pokémon, every animal is unique and has different abilities that allow them to live and function in their environment.

Ducky, who’s a vield chameleon, is an arboreal animal who would spend majority of her life in the tree canopy. Her prehensile tail acts as an extra limb. Here slow strutting movement mimics a leaf blowing in the breeze. Her green color camouflages her with her surroundings. Some of her most noticeable features are her independent eyes and long tongue. These features are what make her and her species unique.

All reptiles are beautiful and they deserve the same respect as any other animal. They feel pain and fear like every other animal. Next time you see a lizard or snake along the sidewalk do not fear! Observe it and learn! They are more scared of you than you are of them!

Stitch likes to let me know when he wants out. 😂Luckily the room is completely small animal proof. Not even a hamster can escape!

I’ve also taken the liberty to buy a cat wall climb. Stitch has become a lot more active since he’s opened up. I’ve been slowly buying enrichment toys for him and future chinchilla.

He’s also started using the cat tree I bought him for Christmas!

Remember SpongeBob and Patrick? They came from the Zephyrhills case where over 50 Guinea pigs were being fed to reptiles and have been physically abused. These boys were one of the last to be adopted. Look at them now!

With time, patience and love, you can heal anything with a heart. I’m very thankful for every family that adopts from us. These kinds of updates help make rescuing a little easier. Things do get better and this video is proof.

🙏 Thank you.

❤️Pinellas County Florida❤️

Two pig sisters looking for their pasture. Both girls come form an animal dumping case and had spent some time in the wild.

We believe the girls to be 7-8 months old. They are friendly and will come up for food but they are also very skittish. Since they can be squirmy we do not recommend them with small kids. They will need to be worked with but with time they will calm down.

If you are interested or have questions text “ADOPT” to 727-401-5235 or DM us on our page. Thanks!

🎉Happy new years🎉

I am putting this out there for everyone, that 2024 WILL be a great year! In 2023 we rescued an estimate 80 to 100 animals. I say estimate becasue I haven’t had time to check the system.

We have great things planned for the new year and some changes.

As stated recently, our organization will now only focuse on animals in crisis situations. We will also be focusing on helping other rescue organizations as well. Non emergency cases will be redirected or dismissed.

Inspired by my best friend Sommer, we will now be offering free nail trims for Guinea pigs and rabbits within Pinellas County!

We are also planning project “piggy pantry”. This is a donation program to help families in hard times keep their rabbits and Guinea pigs. This year I want to help prevent pet dumping. Though there will be situations we simply can’t aid, if there’s a small chance we can help a family keep their pets we will.

At this time the piggy pantry is still in the works. We plan on providing food, hay and some supplies within Pinellas County and Volusia County Florida.

We will be collecting rabbit and Guinea pig supplies such as cages, food, toys and more. There will also be a post informing on different ways to lower the costs of spending when it comes to your pets!

We are decreasing the amount of animals we will accept. I’ve had some permanent health changes and it’s easier for me to care for a few animals at a time. On the rare occasion will I take in many, but for now I’ll focus on up to 5 animals.

As always, thank you for your love and support! Your donations and help have kept us running through the years!

Saying goodbye is never easy, so instead I will say see you later.

As many know, grandpa (pop-eye) was receiving end of life care for a while. He was brought to us many months ago and was redeemed special needs by our exotic veterinarian. Because of his issues he would spend the reminder of his life with us. Grandpa served his duty by helping raise pups. He will now be passing down his torch to Lamb Chop.

Last night grandpa was pulled from his grandsons due to declining health issues. This morning I found him in a state to which I believe he had suffered a stroke. Disoriented and confused, I decided to place Lambchop with him so he can spend his remaining days with one of his babies.

The two took to one another right away and are sleeping together in their hut as I type this. When we can give animals a peaceful passing, we will take it. Whether it’s clinical euthanasia for suffering pets, to non suffering pets, we take end of life care seriously.

These next few days will be hard on us, but for grandpa it will be peaceful and full of love.

Thank you for your service pop-eye❤️❤️❤️

❤️All boys have been adopted

I hope everyone has had a good holiday season! These are the last batch of guineas we have. The first two are bonded sows that must go together.

The rest are the last baby boys we have. All animals are friendly and do well with other Guinea pigs. The two adult sows can be skittish at times so we recommend them to a home with older children.

If you have any questions or are interested please DM us or text “ADOPT” to 727-401-5235

🎄Merry Christmas and happy holidays!🎄

We have a few animals who will be celebrating their first Christmas with us! I want to thank Mitzi and Sommer and everyone else for donating food and toys for the animals. Thank you Crystal for donating veggies for them as well. I will be preparing special salads for the animals.

I wanted to get something special for stitch so I bought him a cat tree. Despite the hard work building it, Stitch would rather sit ontop of the trash can 🙄 ofcourse he would.

I hope you all have a wonderful day!

I totally forgot to make a Christmas list for the animals! I feel selfish but I’ve had a lot of things going on in my life and forgot.

I want to thank Mitzi for sending us surprise gifts!

Some of the animals will be spending their very first Christmas at the shelter and we will be distributing treats and gifts to them on Christmas. Thank you guy!

One last post for the day!

❤️South Fort Meyers Florida❤️
‼️FOSTERS OR ADOPTERS NEEDED‼️

I have great news in regards to the animal dumping case. They were able to capture the last Guinea pig! There was a total of 2 boars and 4 sows. These are the fathers of all the babies that were born at the rescue last month. Yes one of these handsome gentleman is Lamb Chops dad!

They are at a rescuers house. The boys are very timid (they had spent some time out in the wild before being caught) and will require a lot of work.

We are looking for fosters or adopters to take one or both boars. The rescuer involved is trying to rebond them back together but we are unsure if it will be possible.

If you are interested in adopting or fostering please contact Mary at (239) 994-3203!

Please do not respond to this post and text her directly. I won’t be available tomorrow until the 27th! I might not see your messages or comments after!

Please share and help spread the word!

After today I will be unavailable until December 27th! 🎄Happy holidays everyone! 🎄

❤️All babies have been adopted

We are proud to announce that we have found homes for all the baby girls and two of the moms, however we still have lots of boys looking for homes .

If you have a lonely single boar and we’re looking for a friend, baby boars are the easiest to bond! These babies are 3-4 weeks!

Message us if interested or text “ADOPT” to 727-401-5235 and provide an image of the animals you are interested in.

Please note we will not be accepting any new surrenders for the next few months!

Meet our newest animal ambassador!

Lamb Chop will be staying with us and helping us with our rescue mission. When he is old enough, we plan to have him neutered.

His future duties will include becoming a foster dad for orphaned and weaned pups. He will also be a companion for single or disabled pigs. Since he will be neutered we will be able to place him with any single sows we get.

Given his very calm demeanor and gentile nature we believe Lamb Chop would make the perfect candidate. Normally I used my own personal pet pigs for these types of services but since most of mine has passed and I don’t plant on getting anymore, Lamb Chop will fill the role.

Welcome to the team Lamb Chop!

I believe all animals that come through our rescue, do so with a purpose.

Months ago Popeye an his brother were brought to the rescue. Though his brother has been adopted, Popeye has to spend the rest of his life here due to chronic eye issues.

As many of you know, recently we had 4 sows have litters of pups. Now separated, grandpa Popeye has been raising his little herd of grandchildren.

The sweetest thing is watching the babies curl up and sleep with him under the huts. Since he is old and on end of life care, we will need a boar to continue the work of raising baby and orphan pigs. I have decided I will be keeping Lamb Chop and he will aid in our mission to rehabilitate Guinea pigs.

He will be a mentor to the future pups that will be brought or born at the rescue!

Enjoy these sweet little moments of the troop!

Last night we lost a very important supporter of the rescue and one of the most important people in my life.

My grandma, (we called her grandma bear) was an individual who always believed in my dream to rescue animals. She would always allow me to bring over any pet and always encouraged it. As an animal lover herself, she was always fascinated by the animals I’d bring.

Her favorite Guinea pig was Petunia who passed away earlier this year. I can remember her snatching Petunia and carrying her off into her room (also called the bear cave). One time I was visiting, grandma had potato salad on the table she was eating. I had Petunia on the table and she ran over to her. Sticking her little paws in her potato salad she began to eat it! This shocked my grandma and caused her to laugh. By the way don’t feed your Guinea pigs potato salad!

Grandma taught me many life lessons, even how to cook and write in cursive. She would share many stories and had created some of my best childhood memories. She was always there for me.

Thank you so much for the love you have given to me and everyone in our family. I know you’re no longer suffering. I wanted to make this post because you mean so much to me and I know fellow animal lovers would like to hear your story. Rest in peace grandma bear.❤️🐻

The two large sows are two of the moms! They are an estimated year old!

Due to health reasons I can not meet outside Pinellas County Florida.

You must over the age of 18 years to adopt from us and must fill out our adoption paperwork. All adoption fees have been waived.

All of these animals are babies ranging from 3-5 weeks. All must go to homes with preexisting adults pigs.

As cute as these babies are, they grow up QUICK. Baby proofing your enclosure is a must. You will have to send us video of your set up so we can ensure it will be baby proof.

We have a lot of other babies that will be ready. They will be posted WHEN they are ready. I don’t have the time to go back and forth between babies. What we have available for adoption now is in the post.

All of these animals we sweet, some will even eat of your hand already! They are very social and would be a great companion for single boars or sows.

If you are interested please text “ADOPT” to 727-401-5235, and include a picture of the animals you are interested in. You can also message our FB page. If you live outside Pinellas County please map out your address from Largo Florida, 33770 to see if you can make the drive. Thanks!

Stitch update!

Stitch has gotten a clean bill of health from our vet. They where able to shave off most of the mats on his body. I will be monitoring him over the next few months and will cut out the left overs as a go. Before he is placed up for adoption I want to ensure his coat is healthy and mat free before he is placed up for adoption!
