What does it mean when your dog’s p**p is a weird color instead of the usual chocolate brown? ...

🟡 Yellow/Orange
Can mean liver or gall bladder problems.
🟢 Green
Gall bladder problem, intestinal parasites or bacterial infection.
🔵 Blue
Your dog may have eaten rat poison.
⚫️ Black
Can mean your dog’s digesting blood, especially if stools look tarry. May indicate upper GI tract bleeding, pancreatitis, ulcers, or a parasite.
⚪️ Grey
May be a pancreas issue, especially if the stools are greasy. Could also mean gall bladder problem or parasites.
🔴 Bloody
Red or pink swirls like a strawberry milkshake can mean bleeding in the lower GI tract. Can be a sign of parvovirus in puppies.
Red jelly p**p (like strawberry jam) is very serious and could mean HGE – hemorrhagic gastroenteritis.
🔘 White Flecked
Can be normal in raw fed dogs with pieces of undigested bone or chalky stool. White flecks like grains of rice could be tapeworm segments. Check for fleas too – tapeworms can come from licking flea eggs.
🤧 Mucous
Continuing mucousy diarrhea could mean parasites, bacterial infections, inflammatory bowel disease, or, if bloody as well, HGE. Occasional mucousy stool usually just means your dog is detoxing something.

🚨 When To See Your Vet
It’s time for an emergency vet visit if you see …
- Blue p**p
- Strawberry milkshake swirls
- Jelly/strawberry jam p**p
- Bloody diarrhea in a puppy
- Continued mucous in diarrhea

Jumping into Monday like..!🐾

🐶 Introducing puppies to grooming at a young age is essential in starting a positive groomer/dog relationship.
First grooms will alway focus on sound/tool introductions, trust over aesthetics. Pretty haircuts will come! but first, play!

Can you teach old dogs new tricks? 🤔

The answer is a resounding yes!! 🤩

So often people stop training and working with their dogs once they have 'grown up' as they don't realise it is either possible or necessary to continue training beyond that point. Not only is it entirely possible for dogs to learn new skills as they age, it is also extremely beneficial.

Here are some excellent reasons to keep training your dog even as they get older...

🐶 Older dogs aren't as active and easily distracted as puppies, so can focus for longer periods of time.

🐶 They have better mental acuity and reasoning skills so they can figure out more complex tasks they may have struggled with before.

🐶 Mental exercise has been shown to delay cognitive decline in older dogs and humans. For your dog this could be training, brain games and learning tricks!

🐶 Older dogs may not be able to do as much physical exercise as their younger counterparts and will get bored at home, training gives them an alternative outlet.

🐶 Topping up a dog's training throughout their life is always useful, when training a dog we are teaching them a second language, and just like learning a second language if we don't use it, over time we start to forget it.

🐶 You don't know how much time you will have left with them and every moment you can spend together counts, training is another fantastic activity that can bring you happy memories together.

I still train with my dog Suzi every day and she is 16 years old. We work on fun things we can both enjoy together like our trick titles with More With Your Dog! .

Training doesn't just have to be a chore, something to do to accomplish a specific goal, it can also just be another way to spend time together. ❤️

I find it deepens the joy and appreciation in my grooming to know this about the dogs on my table.”

BOWLS ARE BORING
Observations show that many animals, including dogs will prefer to forage, hunt and actively seek out food rather than just having it freely available or presented in a bowl.
This behaviour is known as Contrafreeloading and is an occurrence where an animal will choose to put effort and work into seeking out food rather than eat food that is available for far less or no effort.
This may not make any sense to us – why go to all that effort when you could just have the food that is presented to you? Or why make my dog work for a basic need, you may ask? Surely that’s just not fair?
Foraging, hunting and seeking out food are natural, instinctive behaviours which are vital for the survival of any species. Even though our domesticated dogs don’t have to worry about this, this innate need for seeking is still a part of who they are.
In addition to this, seeking out food creates an increase in Dopamine – the feel-good hormone. It’s the pursuit of an opportunity, the excitement, the satisfaction and the sense of achievement and not the actual eating of the food that causes these feel-good emotions.
We control so much of our dog’s lives and in our modern lifestyles and environment many dogs have very little opportunity to engage in natural behaviours. Why not use food as an outlet to provide enrichment and allow them to engage in a very natural behaviour while increasing feel good hormones?
Contrafreeloading may not be true of all dogs. Dogs that are already provided with lots of opportunities to engage in natural behaviours may not gain any additional benefit as those needs are already being met. Some dogs may be really hungry or tired and prefer to have instant gratification. Every dog is an individual, but it’s worth considering the advantages of providing a simple outlet for this natural and instinctive behaviour. It will make your dog feel good!
