We have been receiving a large number of calls with concerned pet parents about the recent news about a new canine infectious respiratory disease. While we have been aware of the outbreaks on the West coast for the past few months, there have been ZERO confirmed cases in Illinois.

Please do not panic. Be smart with your pet and stay updated with the most up to date, reliable, credible, information.

On behalf of everyone at Dr. Joe’s Mobile Veterinary Services & Rusty Ridge Animal Center, we would like to thank everyone for their understanding as we transitioned into our brick and mortar location!

As you all have likely seen, we have been able to provide so many more services, have more team members, and most importantly, help more animals along the way.

With the addition of our new doctor to our staff, and a third on the way, we would like to announce that we will be INCREASING our mobile services to our clients!

In the coming months we will be making more time slots available, and days available for our mobile clients! Please stay tuned for updates and as always, thank you for supporting us along the way!!

With the pending winter advisory and businesses announcing their closures in anticipation of the storm, we at Rusty Ridge Animal Center will REMAIN OPEN and operate under our normal business hours!

All we ask is that you please be safe while traveling in the pending conditions, and we will try our best to keep up with the storm. If there are any changes to your currently scheduled appointment, please let us know in advance!

Doc is all set and ready to shovel and salt between his appointments for all of our clients and their pets!

A study completed by the American Medical Veterinary Association, have shown 1 in 6 veterinarians have considered su***de at some point in their career.

Dr. Caroline Jurney, of ,explains the struggles of being a veterinarian:
"The people who go into medical fields are amazing, giving caregivers right like they want to help," Jurney said. "The circumstances of life keep you from doing the things that you want to do, that you think is right. So, for instance, a pet owner can't afford care. You know, they can't afford the surgery their dog desperately needs. I've trained my whole life, I've dedicated my whole life to helping animals and this external circumstance prevents me from doing it. And let me tell you, nobody goes into veterinary medicine to make money.”

“We frequently get somewhat attacked for that. If they can't pay for the medical care, then we are the ones that are guilted into 'well, why did you go into this field? If you love animals, why did you become a doctor? Why can't you cut the cost? You're all about money!"

Su***de Prevention Awareness Month provides a dedicated time to come together with collective passion and strength to address this difficult topic. The truth is, we can all benefit from honest conversations about mental health conditions and su***de, because just one conversation can change a life.
