New Start K9 is a Utah-based nonprofit, volunteer-run, dog rescue organization.

New Start K9 was founded in 2021, with the vision for all dogs to live a life without suffering or pain. We contribute to this by providing a new start to dogs in need through care, education, and advocacy.

She's kennel trained, rings the doorbell for potty time, and has mastered commands like heel, off, and recall. With her high energy levels, Lucy would thrive in an active family or excel in dog sports like flyball or agility training.

⭐️Fosters or adopters needed! ⭐️
R***r (M) and Kono (F) have been at Cedar City Animal Adoption Center for over a month with little interest.
They are about 6 years old and were dumped by a breeder.
Both are sweet, great with kids and other dogs, and up to date on vaccines. R***r is fixed. Kono needs to be spayed still, but we can take care of that!
They are a bonded pair, so they need to go together 👯

New Start K9 can pull if we can find a committed foster for this sweet pair!
Or if you feel like they might be the perfect match for you, no fostering needed, they are still available for adoption at the shelter.

Everyone say hello to Alegra! Alegra is a 3-5 year old husky/heeler mix. She is the perfect adventure dog, who loves car rides, hiking, and especially swimming. She is incredibly intelligent and loyal. Great with other dogs and young children. Fine with cats. She has a huge heart and personality and would love to find her person. Her perfect day would include a car ride to a lake or beach followed by hours of swimming and then cuddling up with her favorite person for some snuggles 🐾🥰

🐾 Beware of Foxtails! 🌾

It is foxtail season here in Southern Utah! Foxtails might look harmless, but they pose serious dangers to our furry friends. Here’s why you should be cautious:

1. *Sharp and Barbed*: These grass awns can easily embed themselves in your dog’s skin, eyes, ears, nose, and paws.
2. *Infection Risk*: Once embedded, foxtails can travel through the body, causing painful infections and abscesses.
3. *Difficult to Detect*: Foxtails are tiny and often hidden in fur, making them hard to spot before they cause harm.

🚨 *Signs Your Dog Might Have a Foxtail*:
- Persistent licking or chewing at a spot
- Swelling or redness
- Pawing at the face, shaking the head, or sneezing excessively
- Sudden onset of limping

*Prevention Tips*:
- Avoid areas with tall, dry grass
- Check your dog thoroughly after walks, especially their paws, ears, and nose

Yoshi is still working on his potty training but is crate trained. As is typical for his breed, he enjoys herding his dog friends and his people.
