We are thrilled to introduce Aleina Griffin, our newest addition to the Paws-Up family and your dedicated dog trainer!

Meet Aleina:

"Hello, I'm Aleina! Dogs have been my lifelong passion, starting at the age of 12 when I delved into AKC obedience training and search and rescue with our family's German Shepherd. Currently, I share my home with two companions, Caspian (German Shepherd) and Calypso (Australian Shepherd), whom I engage in various sports and obedience trials.

My journey into dog psychology and behavior began through training my own dogs. While pursuing a path towards becoming a Veterinarian after high school, I discovered my true calling lay in dog training. After graduating from college, I welcomed Caspian into my life, a working line German Shepherd, who became the catalyst for turning my passion into a profession in 2021.

I am dedicated to helping every dog lead a balanced, fulfilled life by empowering their owners with effective communication skills.

I look forward to contributing to the Paws-Up family and creating positive experiences for both you and your furry friends! "

Mac and Cheese need a loving home 🏡🐶🐶💕

When a pet is placed up for adoption, many times we have very limited information on their history. Where were they before they came to us? What happened to them that may cause them anxiety? Some hate thunderstorms. Some hate being confined to a kennel. Some are absolutely petrified of human touch and love. We work with them day in and day out to teach them essential home skills, to learn more about who they are, what they love, what they dislike.

What we do know about Macaroni and Cheese is that they’ve been through a significant amount of trauma, and that’s just from the short amount of time we’ve known them. Who knows what they went through before they were abandoned. Did they know what it felt like to be loved? Did they know the comfort of shelter, warmth, full bellies?

Dogs and cats, like people, can experience emotional trauma from their experiences. While Macaroni is happy wherever he goes, Cheese is bearing the brunt of the trauma they’ve experienced. She has a significant fear of abandonment. Not only dumped then run over, but passing through many hands throughout her treatment period – from the shelter, to a foster home, back to the shelter, and so on. When she’s given a chance at forever, it’s just too much for people.

Macaroni and Cheese are back with us. While we’re disheartened that their previous home didn’t work out, we are committed to ensuring that every single animal we place in a home is a good fit, not only for the animal, but also for the individuals involved. We know the right fit is out there. So we’re looking to find a family that will give these two plenty of patience and understanding as they adjust to their new normal. Their whole lives have been turned upside down in the past year, and it’s essential that their new family extend the grace necessary for them to emotionally heal and realize that they will never be abandoned again.

We know, if given the chance, these two will provide endless love and companionship. They’re just asking for that in return – and not just temporarily... forever. Macaroni and Cheese are available for adoption again and if you would like to come meet them, please stop by the Adoption Center today between 12pm-6:30pm.

Meet Michele Rielly!!

Michele is Paws-Up GVL’s Professional Dog Trainer! She graduated from Tulane University in 2018, with a Masters degree in Business Management and Real Estate Development but always has had a passion for training dogs. She is a CATCH CCDT (certified trainer), Certified Service Dog Trainer, Fear Free certified, and an AKC CGC Evaluator, Trick Dog Evaluator and AKC Fit Dog Level 1 Instructor. She also works for Good Dog! Service Canines, training service dogs.

Our classes focus heavily on positive reinforcement training and we do not use any kind of correction collar, leash or force.

We will find what motivates your dog and help you build a bond to encourage your dog to listen because they want to and not due to fear. We are looking forward to helping you and your dog have the best relationship possible! 🐶
