Darzee is improving all the time! I can't believe how much she changes from day to day. What an incredible little corgi she is!
After Darzee's vet appointment, her wheelchair arrived in the mail. It was oddly difficult to put together, but after lots of coffee and peanut m&m's we were successful. And so was Darzee! At least, she was able to slightly move the wheels. We tried outside after complete failure in the kitchen. She had no purchase on the linoleum. It wasn't a total and amazing success, but it was a definite start!

Dizzy goes to the Vet!
Finally, we were able to get little Dizzy into the vet. Although we were seeing small improvements, there was still a high likelihood that she had a fracture or damage to the vertebrae. We were holding our breath with the verdict, not wanting to become too attached until we knew.
Casey Keller from Best Friends Mobile Veterinary Care did the exam. X-rays were taken and a very full exam took place. The x-rays showed NO damage to the spinal cord or vertebrae! What a relief that was! It was still noted that her right side was weak and that her face and ear drooped. Dr Casey told us she might have experienced ear drum damage, brain damage, and or nerve damage. But because she was so young, nerve and brain damage could possibly be overcome and she could eventually appear to be a normal puppy!
But there was going to be a long road to haul before that happened, and there is still a possibility that she will be forever disabled.
The good news was she was not going to suddenly become worse, and she did not have to be euthanized. There is a large amount of hope for this puppy. To celebrate, we gave her a real name. We now call her Darzee
More on Dizzy!:
Several times a day we would help her stand and hold her up while she tried to walk. Her front and rear legs still wanted to go off to the side and push off. She was living in a kiddy pool, and she would try to walk around using the edge as the floor. By helping her walk upright, it adjusted her mind on how she should be walking. However, no matter how hard she worked at it, her limbs and head would not cooperate. Pitiful baby, she wanted to zoom around and play, but the only way she could was if we held her up and she could paddle her legs around.
She was learning to eat soaked kibble while lying on her side. We put the food in a lick mat for when we were not available to give her food when she wanted it. We fed her in a dish when we could supervise her eating, but with her lack of coordination, we didn't want her bashing her head on the metal pan.
The only way for her to drink though was still from a bottle. Of course, she was just over three weeks at this point, so there was no hurry to wean her. If we left water in with her, there was a high possibility of her drowning.

Zane Gray is an Old Welsh Corgi(1/4 Cardigan, 3/4 Pembroke). He is 8 months old and has begun basic companion level training. He is a very calm boy, a bit shy and unconfident. But we are working on all this. Right now he is recovering from a wrist soft tissue injury. When he is all healed up he will be able to go home with someone that will enjoy his pre training and his beautiful personality!
