Dear Followers and Friends,
WCLRR and other dog rescues across the US are overwhelmed with “owner surrenders.” The dogs we are being asked to take in can range from young pure-bred puppies to seniors who have medical issues and all points in between.
It has been devastating to watch. On top of that, many of the foster families we rely on to give these dogs a safe, temporary home have gone back to work or already have taken in more dogs than usual. It’s been a perfect storm.
WCLRR is being requested to take approximately ten dogs into our rescue as I write this. Understand that we are already at capacity with our resources. We do not know how we will swing this, to be honest. Most of these dogs are under six months old. Some are the parents of those pups, and a couple of the dogs are seniors.
We are pleading with anyone who lives in the SoCal area to consider becoming a foster family for WCLRR. Even if it’s for one dog. The average foster time has climbed due to people going back to work, and some dogs are not in as much demand as they once were. But they still need our help. Our team works tirelessly to find the perfect home for each dog while in foster care.
You can go to the WCLRR website to fill out an application to become a foster family for the rescue. Not everyone will be accepted, however. We have specific guidelines we must abide by for the safety and well-being of the dog and the family. However, WCLRR pays for all food, transportation, and medical expenses. We supply a leash and collar with all our dogs.
I will be blunt; we do not need “I would do it but….”. This is a call to action. If you can foster, if you want to try being a foster, we would like to hear from you.
Thank you for your continued support and generosity. Diana, Jolene, and I are overwhelmed with everyone’s love for these dogs.
Take care - Scott
P.S. If you live outside the SoCal area, please consider volunteering in your community. Of course, please do your homework but know it can be one of the most rewarding experiences in a person’s life.
