UPDATE: Lab results are back. Bertha, although not showing any symptoms yet, has a UTI. Daisy Mae's kidney function is worsening and the results suggest that she has an infection in her kidneys. We've started both girls on antibiotics and will need to retest their urine in 2-3 weeks. Donations are still very much needed for the lab testing and medications. Bertha and Daisy Mae were at the vet this morning for their biannual exams and lab tests. Daisy was diagnosed with congestive heart failure 3.5 years ago and Bertha was very obese with sky high blood pressure and difficulty breathing when she first arrived.
We need to continue to ask (and sometimes beg) for donations to cover this month's lab bill, which will be $1.500.00 for 12 dogs. We have raised only about half of what we need so far.

Today, Sandy and Paddington were at the vet for their biannual exams and lab tests. Both hounds have HBP, so it's crucial that they receive these tests. Our lab bill will be huge this month and we are in need of donations!

Some Good News! Mikey joined the sanctuary 1 1/2 years ago. We can't disclose the details, but we can tell you that his life was being threatened. A year ago, tests showed that his heart was enlarging and we immediately took action. Six months ago, his heart tests showed improvement and yesterday, his heart tests revealed the best results ever! We will keep him on his medication regime and keep him as happy and healthy as possible.

When we ask for donations, we ask so that we can do everything possible for the animals in our care. Thank you for reading their posts, for sharing, for the prayers and for the financial support. Thank you for making a difference!

Please help us help Elwood! His senior lab panel came back last night and he's developed a mild case of non-regenerative anemia, most likely due to his advanced age, his breed and his chronic skin issues that persist, despite medications, diet and environmental control. The good news is that doing frequent, routine testing allowed us to catch the anemia while it's still mild and we've started his new treatment regime.
We really need your help in raising funds for Elwood's vet bills.

Another vet visit this morning. This time it's Wille and Crumble (and Bertha, who was busy sniffing something under the table) at the chiropractic vet for acupuncture and chiropractic adjustments. They feel better now. 😊

Elwood and Mikey could use some donations to help with their vet bills from this morning. Both had their biannual exams and lab tests, and Elwood had a skin scrape to determine if there are any new medications we can try for his never-ending itchiness. Both boys have a history of medical issues that we've been addressing and biannual exams are critical for keeping track of their progress and for catching any new problems early.

We are getting close to our goal of raising funds for Lilly Red's vet and medication bills. She's started her new medications and her prognosis is good. This sweet old hound spent most of her life in a backyard being bullied by other dogs. She's happy and comfortable now. Lilly Red's lab results were not what we had hoped for. Her heart is showing significant stretch from 6 months ago and we have started her on medications to help. We caught it early, so her prognosis is good. We still need to raise $150 to pay for the lab tests and her new medications.

We've been super busy this week as we welcomed Emma Jean to the sanctuary. Her past is a mystery but filled with evidence of violence with deep scars all over her back, a tail that was most likely bitten or chopped off, a hematoma in her ear, flea infestation, skin infections and severe arthritis. But despite all of this, she's as sweet as can be. If you can send a few dollars her way to help with her medications, supplements and vet bills, we'd be forever grateful.

Two weeks ago, Mabel underwent surgery for an inguinal hernia that was 4 times the size of a usual hernia. She was also spayed and had 7 teeth extracted. She was the perfect patient through the whole recovery and yesterday, she allowed us to remover her 23 staples. She's officially healed now and a very happy hound. A huge thanks to everyone that supported her, first through her heartworm treatments and now through her surgery. We also are eternally grateful to the many drivers that transported her to Ohio and to HERO Hound Rescue for pulling her from the high kill shelter and giving us the honor of caring for her for the rest of her life.
