Welcome home, Bumper! 🐾💕

It’s finally official ~ Bumper’s mine! 🥰

I am so happy to share this news ~ my clients have been getting mini updates since I started fostering Bumper in March. He was finally cleared medically and I was able to adopt him today!! I literally fell in love with Bumper the first time I saw him! 😍😘

Get ready, I’m going to gush about this awesome family I had the privilege of working with! This little guy is Henry. Henry’s an adorable Mini Goldendoodle. Henry started in my Kindergarten Connections Class. He did well learning behaviors, but he had a good deal of anxiety from his past learning experience from a punishment-based training facility. Unfortunately, that experience damaged his bond with his dad & mom. He not only had anxiety, his behaviors were unreliable, and he was also guarding items at a severe level.

Henry’s mom & dad were willing to do whatever it took to support Henry emotionally so he could then learn the behaviors they needed him to learn. His mom took notes at every session and wrote down all the steps to our training plan. They changed Henry’s diet, because nutrition is sooooo important and really affects behavior. They learned to comprehend what he was trying to communicate to them. They learned how to observe him. They reframed Henry’s life, so he was able to relax more and learn easier.

Through ACE (Animal Centred Education) Free Work, we started supporting Henry and reframing his relationship with his dad. I also used ACE Free Work as his “classroom” to teach him the important things like there’s no need to guard resources. The most impressive thing that happened through ACE was watching the bond between Henry & his dad develop and trust be reestablished. ACE teaches us to take a step back, set up the environment for success, and observe our dogs so we can support them through their learning journey!

I was so excited to have a consultation with this awesome family again!! They added a new pup to their home, so we chatted about all the challenges of having two adolescent dogs at once and how to optimize all the great things they’ve learned in the past and apply it to their new pup!

I was so excited to have a couple off-site sessions with this gorgeous girl again!! 🥳 Daisy’s mom & dad wanted to have a couple sessions to brush up on what they learned in the past so they can continue to support Daisy in her lifelong learning journey!!

When I first met Daisy’s mom & dad, their goal was to be able to walk her around their neighborhood. That's it; walk around the block. Daisy was very concerned about leaving her yard. 😔 Daisy was apprehensive in general, but once her mom & dad learned how to support her, she was able to overcome her concerns about the environment and now she can enjoy life out and about!

When I met Gunther in June, he was just 16 weeks old! By the time we were done with our sessions, he was 24 weeks old! I was lucky enough to work with him for twelve day training sessions!

It’s not very often that I can fit day training into my schedule. Day training is ½ day sessions, two to three times a week, where I work on exploration, socialization, behaviors, free work, field trips, enrichment, play, and we pretty much have a blast!

I love Gunther! He’s such a smart, active, fun-loving puppy who loves to learn! His learning journey is just beginning and I’m so honored that I had the opportunity to be a part of it!

I love working with puppies! It’s astonishing how much they grow and learn over eight sessions!

Supporting Bella, a gorgeous Siberian Husky, through her learning journey was such an honor. We used free work as our “classroom” to build connection and address behaviors that we really wanted to discourage. Looking past traditional behavior training and meeting physical, emotional, and cognitive needs will build a great foundation for any puppy to thrive in!

Doesn’t Patches have the best ears??

Sweet little Patches had a rough go. Her human passed away, but she was lucky enough to find a new home with a young man who works very hard to meet her needs.

I watched Patches make such great progress over our sessions! Working with clients isn’t about “just training behaviors,” but rather showing them how to meet the emotional, physical, and cognitive needs of their pup. When you address those needs, learning behaviors comes much easier.

Patches was trying very hard to work towards being a service dog. Instead, it looks like she’s better suited as an emotional support dog. It’s so important to accept and love your dog for exactly who they are and support them in being the best pup they can be!

Can we all just agree that I have the best job in the whole world! I mean, look at this guy!!! I started working with Bisquit, a very handsome Vizsla, when he was just 10 weeks old. We did six private sessions for all the puppy stuff and also worked on a lot of strategies to guide Bisquit to make good choices when the world is just too exciting for him!

It’s never too early to begin your puppy’s learning journey!! A pup can learn “obedience” (I hate that word) at any age, but learning how to help your puppy self-regulate, explore, and feel safe and secure should be started as soon as you get them!

Zito ~ Take a Breath

What happens when you teach a dog to take a deep breath? Just like us, deep breathing helps to lower heart rate and blood pressure. It releases tension and turns on the body’s parasympathetic nervous system. It can decrease stress and help to make your dog feel calm. Relaxation training helps all dogs, but especially dogs that worry about things. Dr. Karen Overall’s Relaxation Protocol and Leslie McDevitt’s Take a Breath protocol are both so helpful for all pups! Zito got a little overexcited when he saw the geese outside. We did Look at That and Take a Breath to help him calm down.
