The crew heads down the canyon. Long leads sometimes take days to complete, with the cattle being watered and taken care along the way.

I can’t decide which micro scene I like more - my husband, Jim Young, on his roan horse, Lawty Cavalliere’s horse jumping sideways, or the cowboy’s shadow in the foreground. Okay, my hubby is my fave ❤️

Happy Sunday from the cowboys working in God’s country. These wild cattle are patiently waiting to be led out in their halters. Because when it goes right, leading wild cattle looks quite tame. Not easy, just smooth.

Looks like Lawty caught this one clean around the neck! He’s a handy feller like that. Plus, his horse matches the cow, so you know he has style.

PS how about that horse?! Judging by his ears, looks like he will eat a cow for breakfast. Just the kind you want.

Puppies are available! Three yellow and one gray. All females. Hound/cur crosses. Out of proven working parents. Will be eight weeks old and ready to go on August 20th. We give one puppy shot before they leave our place. $200 each.

I bragged on Lawty in my last post, but I can’t overlook another young member of our wild cow catching crew. People say it’s hard to hire good help these days, but they must be drawing from a different talent pool than we are because we haven’t had that problem.

Here, teenager Dalley Phillips leads two bulls across the Verde River. He can’t legally drink yet but is a hand and a half. See pic for proof. Dalley will camp out for weeks at a time and, like his co worker, only asks for a steady supply of soda pop. The crew sometimes wishes he would ask for deodorant but hey, kids, right?

We keep hearing people say there aren’t any good young cowboys anymore, but we’re here to tell you they are entirely incorrect. Case in point: Lawty Cavalliere , 19 years old and handier than most cowboys much older than him. He will outrope, outride, and outlast most guys who think they’re a cowboy. And he only requires a case of Dr. Pepper a week to stay happy in camp. Helluva deal.

The guys have been camping even farther down the river lately. Beautiful location, but breakfast consists of a can of Spam heated over an open fire. Each cowboy gets his own can, then they’re off to catch some wild ones.

The guys moved camp over the weekend. Lawty and Dalley trotted horses out to a set of corrals where they could be hauled down the highway and to the next wilderness area to catch more cattle.

Dalley Phillips is the new guy on our crew, but he’s not new to catching and leading wild cattle. Not sure why the first pic looks like a painting…maybe the cowboy who sent me these images from the field is riding around with a paintbrush and canvas instead of a catch rope in his hand?? That would explain A LOT. 😂😂

Looks like Lawty caught this one! I was super impressed with his ability to ride, rope, and hold his phone up long enough to take a badass picture. Then Jim told me he had a GoPro. 🤦‍♀️ It all makes a lot more sense now.

Riding some horses and roping at home isn't a bad way to spend some time in between contracts. At least Jim gets to enjoy loping circles in an actual arena, anyway! He says it's just a tad different from running through the rocks and the brush in hot pursuit of a wild bovine, where style doesn't matter and no points are awarded for aesthetics 😂 I better send him out on another contract ASAP before he gets used to this easy life. Worst thing a wild cow man can do is get civilized.
