The last pup of the year to test HZP from the v.d. Skjaldborg A litter, Agol v.d. Skjaldborg. “Baba” with his handler Ian Wisecarver.
When Ian called me about a dog he was in residency for plastic surgery. He lived in an apartment in downtown Dallas but made the effort to drive 2 hours to my location any time he had a free moment to train for his VJP. Baba earned a score of 69 with an 11 in pointing along with being marked sight loud.
As time went by, Ian finished residency and passed his boards to obtain the title of MD along with acquiring a position as Homer Alaskas only plastic surgeon. Ian moved to Alaska over the summer, and had minimal time to train his dog but he made the effort to attend my online force fetch classes as well as stop by the house as often as he could to learn from me.
Ian and Baba then traveled across the globe again to test the HZP and although yesterday did not go the way we wanted it to with a failed rabbit drag, Baba scored an 11 in field search and a solid 10 in duck search along with many other 10s across his scoresheet.
Ian and Baba are a testament to committing to the breed and putting in the work that they could with the time they had. They showed up for me and the rest of the Drahthaar community and for that I am grateful. Ian has a hell of a hunting dog to show for it.
This will be a story I will tell to those who say, “I just don’t have time”.
