Meet Polaris!

Jakson's first assignment with VPSP went great! Polaris is your typical Australian Shepherd. Tightly wound & full of anxiety plus nervous energy.

Jakson is a pro with dogs like this & the two of them had an excellent time together. Polaris' human was quite impressed! ❤️🐾🐶

Blue & Pippen enjoy extra socialization, so Kara is doing overnights to ensure the buns get lavished with all the attention they deserve!

We are excited to introduce Jakson as our newest team member!

Jakson’s veterinary career began in high school when he began working in shelter medicine. He worked in emergency medicine, transitioning to general practice. There Jakson was able to form lifelong bonds with clients for whom he pet sat for.

Jakson enjoys caring for medically complex and/or behaviorally challenging pets, with a special interest in diabetes, hyperthyroidism & FIP. He also used his skills to assist elderly or differently abled persons as well.

Jakson currently works as a radioactive iodine technician at a specialty hospital for hyperthyroid cats. If you have any questions about that particular disease, Jakson is your guy!

Jakson will be helping us with drop in visits in SE Portland & surrounding areas. He is also able to do overnights during his 4 day weekends.

He is highly experienced with cats, dogs, ferrets, pocket pets, reptiles, tortoise/turtles, saltwater/fresh fish & invertebrates.

Jakson is a wonderful addition to our team, already a certified assistant in Oregon & we are wishing him the best of luck when he challenges the veterinary technician boards later this fall. Jakson is already Fear Free certified at the Elite level & has also earned his Cat Friendly Veterinary Professional certification. We're lucky to have him!

Vet tech pet sitter Dannielle has made a new friend! Finnegan has some anxiety issues, so his humans wanted to make absolutely certain he was comfortable with a pet sitter. Meet Tiger Lily!

This finicky feline has a deep distain for visitors. VPSP Owner/CVT pet sitter Stacey was told to not be surprised if Tiger never came out or just spent her time hiding under beds.

Not deterred, Stacey dutifully crawled under beds so that Tiger Lily could have some sniffs & get some pets on her terms. Her humans were delighted when Stacey won her over enough to get her to come out for some nice brushing.

Stacey is Fear Free & Cat Friendly certified. ❤️😻🐾

Vet tech pet sitter Dannielle got to hang out with this cutie recently. We think MacKenzie has the most amazing hair! And when this sweet little guinea pig needed some medication during her visits, that was no problem at all for Dannielle & the VPSP team. 🐾❤️

Back in the day VPSP Owner/CVT pet sitter Stacey was called the "queen of feline diabetes" & the "resident hospital diabetes expert." And for good reason too! Stacey's previous cat had it & she set out to learn absolutely everything she could to be the best diabetic cat mom ever.

Stacey is well versed in every potential complication of diabetes such as hypoglycemia, diabetic ketoacidosis, Somogyi upswing & hyperosmolar syndrome.

So when Stacey arrived for her next round of visits with Mr. Mittens, she immediately recognized he was demonstrating bilateral plantigrade stance. This is when they walk on their hocks (aka ankles), instead of their tippy toes. This is a symptom of nerve damage secondary to diabetic neuropathy & is caused by uncontrolled diabetes. Oftentimes it can be resolved with better glucose regulation.

Stacey immediately alerted her client, offered to bring over her glucometer to check blood sugar & speak to their vet. The clients were incredibly grateful for Stacey's observations, concerns, suggestions & when she shared her personal/professional experiences.

It's a good thing Stacey checked Mr. Mittens' blood glucose. He was running at 650, which is extremely high. (Normal for cats is about 100-200) If she hadn't discussed adjusting his insulin dose with the vet, Mr. Mittens could have become very sick, very rapidly. 🐾❤️😻

Vet tech pet sitter Dannielle has made some new friends! Miss Chin & Skeeter are notoriously shy. Other pet sitters never see them. That has become more complicated now that Miss Chin has asthma & requires a daily inhaler. Fortunately, VPSP sitters are kept well stocked with delicious Churu that's always a big hit with finicky felines.

Says Miss Chin & Skeeter's owner: "Dannielle is a cat whisperer. The girls absolutely love her. Can we reserve her again?" 🐾❤️😻

Meet Manchego!

This older gentleman has experienced some behavioral changes common with the aging process. His communication tends to be subtle until it's not, so Manchego really benefited from someone very in tune to doggie cues something hurts or they're unhappy. VPSP Owner/CVT pet sitter Stacey is on the job!

Manchego had a fantastic week with Stacey. Many walks through his nice neighborhood. She kept a close eye on him for signs he was getting achey or tired. Putting a harness on can be a scary thing for some dogs but with plentiful treats, Stacey had no issues.

Manchego also enjoyed taking a great many naps with Stacey. He has a nice little dog fort in the bedroom he likes to sleep in.

Manchego's humans were so happy with Stacey's services, they requested to book her again! ❤️🐾🐶

Meet Juno, Arlo & Sookie!

Vet tech pet sitter Dannielle held down the fort with these guys over the 4th of July. Poor Juno recently had a mass removed from her shoulder & had to wear the cone of shame. The 4th can be a pretty noisy & stressful time but under Dannielle's care everyone got lots of attention, naps & sunshine. 🐾🐶😻❤️

Did you know, more pets go missing July 4th weekend than any other time of the year?

Fireworks and loud noises can cause pets to run away. If your pet isn't microchipped, we strongly recommend getting one, as it greatly increases the chances of reunification should your pet run away.

If your pet is microchipped, be sure the contact information is up to date and they have a tag on their collar with emergency information!
