Service dogs are NOT just well trained pets, therapy dogs, or emotional support animals.
Service dogs do are not "certified", bur are very specially trained to do certain tasks for a certain person.

It is estimated that more than 300 dogs took part in the search, rescue and recovery efforts at ground zero in the aftermath of 9/11. In addition to search and rescue dogs, therapy dogs were also brought in to provide much-needed comfort to first responders.

Today on the anniversary of 9/11, we pause to remember our heroes—both human and canine.

This is just one of MANY MANY MANY reasons I recommend using only experienced, professional pet sitters. If you use a neighbor, friend, or kid down the street, would they know what to do when the client's house is under evacuation orders? Would they know who to call for help? Do they have an emergency plan in place ahead of time? Would they know where to take your animals?
A professional pet sitter has all of this and is experienced at thinking on the fly when needed.
We spent yesterday afternoon evacuating two donkeys and a cat from two different homes. Then we spent time making sure everything was secure and as safe as could be at the homes.
P.S.: the photo is from yesterday and quite a long ways away from our clients' houses.
