Most puppies are fully house trained by 6 months old though it is not unusual for puppies to have occasional accidents until they are one year old.

Potty training is one of the biggest frustrations for new puppy owners. We want to make that training as easy as possible! At Hill & Valley Kennels we started imprinting your puppy with cedar chips beginning when they were just 3 weeks old. By doing this your puppy already associates the smell of cedar with where they are supposed to relieve themselves.

We recommend putting cedar shavings in your puppy’s designated potty area outside so they will quickly adjust and know where it is ok to go. Take your puppy to that area EVERY TIME they need to go. A consistent schedule for feeding, watering, and bathroom breaks are key to successful house training.

Evening bliss with our puppy pack. After a stressful day, puppy snuggles bring all the happy endorphins when we get home. Not only do we enjoy the time we get to work with the puppies, it’s great bonding time for me and my husband.

Over, around, under, and through! It was a great day of puppy class. Each day the puppies are exposed to something new to explore. Their confidence is very high at 6 weeks old and they are quite fearless so it’s a great time to explore things that move. Balls and tunnels and falling leaves were all part of their curriculum this week.

It’s so important that puppies are given the ability to explore and experience safe exposures during each developmental stage. At Hill & Valley we carefully assess each individual puppy and select activities that will build confidence and limit fear reactions. At 5 weeks old walking in wet grass, pouncing on leaves and playing tug with their siblings is enough to tire these guys out for a few hours. The foundation for success starts here. Brain games are on the menu tonight! Snuffle mats are a great way to engage your puppy’s brain, nose, and body. Not only do brain games help with growth and development they also expel extra energy which reduces destructive behaviors. A tired puppy is a happy puppy. Win-win for everyone!
