Howdy riders! We have been busy sprucing up old trails and clearing new ones! We are excited to be getting ready for the first ride on September 21st! This ride will be a Poker Ride and/or a Hunter Pace. You can sign up for either. THIS WILL BE THE ONLY HUNTER PACE THIS YEAR. We have the Murder Mystery Ride in October and, of course, the Scavenger Hunt in November. Sadly, we just don’t have enough riders signing up for the jumps to warrant the people and the hours it takes to set them up. I’ll have more details on how long the trail is when it is finished and I can map it. Hope to see you all in a few weeks!

Why is saddle fit important for you the rider? One of the most common remarks I hear is, “I don’t care if the saddle fits me as long as my horse is comfortable.” This is a very kind and thoughtful statement to make for your horse’s comfort but if you, the rider, are not comfortable, you do not have a pliable seat. You become dead weight or your weight is in the wrong place on your horse’s back. Very often, with female riders, I see women in saddles that are too big for them. Ladies, you only need one inch between your thigh and the pommel of your saddle- so, why? The most common reason is the twist of the tree. When a man sits in a saddle, he sits on his seat bones. When a woman sits in a saddle- if she sits correctly, with shoulder, hip, heel alignment, she is sitting on her p***c symphysis- a tiny area of cartilage attaching the bottom left and right sides of the pelvis. If the twist is too wide, she will not be able to tolerate this for very long. The best illustration I can give is to imagine an old fashioned clothespin- think about putting something wide up high in the crotch, between the legs of the pin and then insisting that middle of the legs (your knees) and the bottoms (your feet) come back close together. Something has to give right? There will be tremendous stress on the “knees” and “hips” of the pin! This is sort of what happens when a female rides in a saddle with a twist that is too wide, and then tries to keep her leg on her horse- she will experience knee and hip pain. Also, she will often push herself back in the seat, onto her butt and completely out of shoulder, hip, heel alignment to relieve the pressure on the p***c symphysis. This is the number one reason that women ride in saddles that are too big for them.
How many of you have said to yourself, or had a trainer or friend tell you that you need to be better at sitting the trot? Do you feel like you just have no ability? Do you think your horse has the worst trot ever? When you push yourself back in a saddle that is too big for you, you place yourself behind the horse’s balance point and are now sitting over the bounciest place on the back.
It is important for your saddle to fit and your horse so that you have a pliable seat and remain over the balance point, the quietest place of your horse’s back. This gives you a better ride and lessens the workload for your horse ☺️

I’d just like to ask, “why?”. Why drive into our field and deliberately run over and destroy one of our horse jumps? Why this one when there are others set up? Was it because it looked like a rainbow? Did it occur to you that it was just a colorful jump for horsemen and women to enjoy and had no connotations at all? Did it bother you that you trespassed and damaged our field? That you destroyed personal property? I hope it was worth it to get stuck and have to pulled out.

Hi folks! I began attending the Saddle Fit 4 Life Academy last year and I am really close to graduating and getting certified. To finish up the course I have to do some specific evaluations- Western and English, men and women. Until I’m certified, I am considered an intern, and I cannot charge any money to do an evaluation. I’m looking for some people close to home who will give me an hour or two of their time to come do a full evaluation on them and their horse, for free. Message me here or text me 570-637-6602. Thank you! 😊

Horse people will get this. I went roller skating tonight. I found myself staying along the wall, skating into the corners and passing on the inside! 🤣

Will the winners please PM me with their addresses? Some of you didn’t provide one and other I cannot read 🫣. Even though I have some readable ones I’d still like to make sure I have them correct 😊

As always, thank you to all the riders who come to ride our trails! It truly makes all the effort worth it!

I attended the Solidarity Ride at Tioga Downs today, to commemorate the 31 horses that perished in the deliberately set barn fire. The gathering of riders and walkers was beautiful. After the ride we gathered at the site where the horses are buried. It was very emotional to watch the owners/trainers come forward to place a rose on the markers of each horse as their names were called, and to see their grief and pain as they wept. The most significant thing that stays with me is the tiny space where 31 horses are buried. This area should be so much larger and it really brings home how little was left of the horse’s bodies. This felt like a gut punch to me as I saw it up close and realized that this is what those horse’s lives have been reduced to. The lives of these horses had no value to the evil behind this deed. God bless the owners and trainers who have lost their beloved horses. Nothing can replace them but I pray that justice will be served.

Folks along the CC Allis road and toward Herrickville. There is a loase horse running with a saddle on, probably headed toward the Clark Farm. If anyone sees it please let me know. The owner is searching frantically.

The sun is shining and it’s warming up! Saddle up your ponies and come on out for a ride with us!

Hey all!! Just reaching out to see how many will be coming for the Hunter Pace/Scavenger Hunt this coming Saturday. I’m mostly interested in the hunters. If we don’t have anyone doing the hunt course, I’d like to get the jumps off the fields and put away. If there are hunt teams planning to come, I’ll let them out. Please let me know. If I don’t get any responses I’ll start taking the jumps down and we will just have the scavenger hunt. Mom is getting ready with two hearty soups and her homemade sides and desserts. Praying for dry weather and hoping to see lots of you there!!

18/10/2023

Well folks, the weather is not on our side for this weekend’s ride. 😔 We are rescheduling for November 18th. Hoping to see you all there!

04/10/2023

Hey folks! We are keeping a close eye on the weather for this coming Saturday. I hate that it may be a last minute decision but you know how the weather changes! Stay tuned!

02/10/2023

Jersey Maples Farm

What do you do with a dairy farm when all the cows are gone? So many farmers have to deal with this issue when milking is no longer a viable option for staying afloat. We have mulled over so many options, just as we know others have before us. Ultimately, we have decided to put a couple (or a few) cabins on the property and make them suitable to rent to horse folks so they can bring their horses along to vacation with them. After all, we have some of the finest views in the country right here in the Endless Mountains! Our first cabin is almost done and we are pretty excited about that! Additionally, we are clearing trails and making a course that can be used for pleasure, as a hunter pace course, or as a judged obstacle course. When it’s all finished it should come in around 9.2 miles to ride the entire loop. The course includes dirt, township roads, open fields and wooded trails. Plenty of creek and stream crossings and all different types of terrain will keep anyone from becoming bored! The course is only what we have done on our property. There are enough dirt roads to ride for days! We have an abundance of wildlife so it’s never unusual to see deer, turkey, herons, pileated woodpeckers, raccoons, muskrats, an occasional beaver and more... We are pleased and anxious to host our first ride this September and hope to have many more in the future!
