Meet a new feline friend at the Sanctuary- Sushi! This young girl was found in a community cat colony in New Haven by a Yale police officer who wanted to help her find a home. Sushi has been very affectionate, sweet and snuggly since her arrival to our Sanctuary! She still needs to be vetted and spayed, but we wonât be surprised if this girl isnât with us for long! Welcome Sushi! đŁ
Please give a warm OC welcome to our newest canine cutie at the Sanctuary! Say hello to Frankie! This beautiful girl is a 13 year old Chihuahua and a little less than 10lbs. She does have a bad right eye where she has little to no vision, but it is stable and does not need to be removed. She was previously in our Rehoming Program due to her owner moving and unable to bring her with him, but we thankfully had space at our Sanctuary and invited Frankie to join our OC family! Though she hasnât been with us for long, Frankie is already making a ton of new friends and loving all the attention sheâs been receiving! Weâre so happy to have her and shower her with love! Welcome Frankie! đ
Someone caught a magic carpet ride all the way home! Congrats to Aladdin on getting adopted! Aladdinâs story first started when he was found as a kitten in someoneâs garage with a de-gloved mandible. Surgery repaired his mandible and he had a complete recovery! He arrived to our Sanctuary in need of socialization and care. Aladdin was nervous and shy, but soon flourished during his time with us. He absolutely loved all the playtime, attention, and adventure he found at our Sanctuary! He thrived and had tons of fun playing with the other kitties, though they werenât too sure what to do with this big ball of energy! Weâre so happy to have found a home where he can continue having fun, bonding with his family, and enjoying more adventures! Weâll miss you, Aladdin!
We are happy to announce that our sweet, softy Teddi Winkles was adopted! Teddi unfortunately lost his home and family after his owner sadly passed away. Teddiâs whole world got turned upside down and he was quite wary of this big change when arriving to our Sanctuary. Thankfully with some patience and love, Teddi learned that he could trust his new friends and environment and began showing his adorable affectionate side- which even included belly rubs! Weâre so grateful for Teddiâs trust and the bonds he made with us at the Sanctuary, and even more grateful that he has found another home and family to continue loving him. We wish Teddi Winkles lots of cuddles and purr as he enters this exciting, new chapter! Congrats Teddi!
Our Companions welcomed Lauren & Alexandra from Glastonbury Hot Yoga to host a relaxing yoga session for our community! We meowed doing Cat and Cow and we woofed when we did Downward Facing Dog! Thank you to everyone that came to breathe, stretch, and have fun! And a special thank you to Lauren and Alexandra for donating your time to our community!
Angel has a large range of beautiful smiles, whether sheâs chasing after balls or showing off her adorable teefies! đđ
We are happy to announce that our handsome, noble boy Count Maxwell has been adopted! Found as a friendly stray, Count Maxwell arrived to our Sanctuary being very sweet, affectionate, and playful! He showed us quite the range of facial expressions and made friends with everyone he met! Weâre so happy he found his purrrfect match to continue having fun with his family! Congrats to the Count and his new home! đ

At Our Companions, we believe every animal deserves the royal treatment, especially those with chronic skin conditions. Our dedicated team turns their medical treatments into a âspa day,â ensuring these lovable pups get the care and comfort they deserve. Milo, Neo, Scout, and Brooke all receive regular âspa dayâ treatments for their various conditions.
Milo's undercarriage and inner thighs are prone to irritation, so after his walks he gets a medicated spray and ointment applied to help combat discomfort. He gets regular baths and a coconut oil âmassageâ to help combat the irritation and dryness.
With Neo, he's had seasonal alopecia since last winter, so he also gets the bath time treatment and coconut oil applied topically to reduce his hair loss.
Scout is prone to allergies and gets a topical calming âmousseâ applied to his undercarriage to help prevent itchiness. He also gets eye drops to help lubricate his eyes after a necessary surgery made it more difficult for them to close fully.
Brooke gets frequent âpedicures.â She is unfortunately prone to foot infections, so she gets foot soak âtrainingâ to get more comfortable with her feet being handled, along with antifungal ointment applications as needed.
Thanks to your generous support, we can continue transforming these dogs' lives. Every donation helps us provide the best care possible, making a world of difference for dogs in need. by making a gift today: https://www.ourcompanions.org/help-them-heal-giving-day/!
Wavy Gravy is the purrfect example of a cat that has had a lot of ups and downs. He came to the Sanctuary in late 2020 after attacking his former housemate. He had a history of bladder crystals, which can lead to serious complications. Wavy suffered from another urinary blockage in his first few months with us, which required an emergency vet visit and catheterization.
Over the years, heâs had a laundry list of health issues. Staff noticed his appetite decreasing, along with vomiting and gastrointestinal distress. After a round of blood work and ultrasounds, he was diagnosed with a GI disease and received daily meds and a prescription diet to help. This seemed to improve his overall wellbeing, until his health took a turn for the worse - again! He started to lose weight and acting lethargic.
After another round of blood work, Wavy was diagnosed with diabetes. He started to receive insulin twice daily and had his blood glucose monitored with an implanted glucose meter so we could know exactly how his blood sugar was doing at any given moment. Thankfully, after several months of treatment his diabetes went into remission! We continue to closely monitor his appetite, respiratory rate, and mood to make sure heâs feeling his best.
He is a very affectionate, snuggly, and confident cat who charms all his volunteer friends who give him lap snuggles, playtime, and his hallway escapades. We know it will continue to be a challenge to find this roller-coaster boy a forever home due to his health history. But no matter what, thanks to the generous support of the Our Companions community, we know we can always be there for Wavy Gravy and all of our other Sanctuary guests. Ultrasounds, insulin, prescription foods, glucose monitors, and emergency vet visits are all costly.

Will you by making a gift? Cats like Aladdin rely on us to show them a whole new world. He was found as a 10- 12 week old kitten in a garage in Manchester. He suffered from an injured jaw (origin unknown) that required surgery to repair. He came to the Sanctuary in October to recover from his surgery Little Aladdin came to us quite nervous and fearful, but he has certainly come out of his shell â in a big way. Once he was fully healed from his injury and surgery, he had a lot of energy he needed to burn off. Thereâs not a minute that goes by where he doesnât want to play and have fun with his human friends! He is more comfortable with people now and loves to snuggle up and be pet on the couch. While he likes other cats, he is often too rough with them when playing. Staff and volunteers work every day on getting this bundle of energy all the playtime he needs. He even loves learning new tricks like giving high fives and ringing bells.
Itâs amazing how resilient these animals can be when they have the time, space, and love to heal. Tune in tomorrow for even more stories of all the ways we .

Want your business to be the top-listed Pet Store/pet Service?
Our Companions Animal Rescue was founded in 2002 after receiving a gift of 43 acres of land in Ashford, CT for the purpose of building Connecticut's first animal Sanctuary, rehabilitation and adoption center.
The Sanctuary, the only one of its kind in New England, provides a comforting, home-like, enriching environment for our community's most vulnerable animals (those who are older, traumatized, abused, or neglected). The Sanctuary helps these animals by providing them a setting that is conducive to a longer-term stay and provides a low-stress, comforting atmosphere that encourages healing and rehabilitation. Each animal receives a medical and behavioral treatment plan that is modified weekly, based on the animalâs specific needs.
The Sanctuary is open to the community every Saturday for tours from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
