Our goal is to make certain that our puppies are matched with homes where they are appreciated and loved for the bully breed that they are naturally, so that means complete honesty BEFORE each purc
hase. If you're looking foremost for an extremely obedient breed of dog more so than an exceedingly loyal, courageous and intelligent dog, then an OEB probably won't be the best fit for your expectations. We would rather be upfront about our OEBs to ensure their happiness as well as yours! So here's some basic information and feel free to contact us with questions, concerns, or just to talk more about our puppies, adult dogs, etc. We have owned many different dog breeds over many decades, so we can speak from experience regarding different dog breeds and share our story of why we fell in love with Olde English Bulldogges.
🥸The Olde English Bulldogge (OEB) is a contemporary recreation of the Old English Bulldog which is now extinct. It is an American dog breed created by David Leavitt in Pennsylvania in the early 1970s. His efforts resulted in a stout, athletic breed that looks similar to bulldogs from the early 1800s, but with very little health issues, friendly temperaments, and longevity into their teens. Modern OEBs are based on the selective foundation breeding of 1/2 English Bulldog, 1/6 Bullmastiff, 1/6 American Bulldog, and 1/6 American Pit Bull Terrier breeds.
💜OEBs are loyal, docile, and friendly as well as being trustworthy and capable of protecting their human family and property if threatened due to the close bonds they've formed. They are the ultimate family member. They do well in families with children of all ages and get along with other pets.
🧡Our dogs have a lot of patience and are very intelligent. They can be stubborn on occasion, but usually it's because they're observing or want to test a limit, very similar to how a young child behaves. They want to please, so positive and consistent reinforcement is a must. Harsh discipline is NEVER recommended and will likely make them more stubborn. One of our females will blatantly defy a stern command from our 10 yr old, but our 8 yr old just sweet talks her into doing exactly what she tells her do - same request, different approach.
🤎Our only male, BullDozer, is the biggest love bug with a super soft coat that's perfect for cuddling! I have many pictures of him and our kids where sometimes he's their pillow and sometimes they're his pillow. He's well-recognized by area businesses and their customers, everyone pets him, he can't get enough affection and he doesn't know a stranger. When he was a pup, he was alone in the yard when he spotted a dog bowl left out on our patio table - so he moved stacked chairs closer to the table and used them to climb on top to investigate. He also taught himself how to roll down the car window so it's not uncommon for his 'chauffeur' to put the window back up, only for Dozer to put it back down again! He loves smiling at others while he takes in the fresh air.
💛Most of our family outings and road trips include our dogs because they LOVE going for car rides! Touch car keys or put on shoes and when you look up, there will be dogs sitting pretty to obstruct the path to the exit door.
❤️Easy to care for, OEBs need occasional brushing of their short, straight coats and bathed only when necessary (we send ours to the groomer a few times per year). Some OEBs drool more than others - our male, Dozer, is a big drooler especially when waiting for a treat; however, our females only drool a little when waiting for the signal that it's ok to get their treats. Our oldest female, Dottie, has a lot of self-control and even refuses treats from strangers; we can tell she really wants it, but she won't take it until one of her trusted humans gives it to her. Good girl!
💙OEBs need moderate exercise and mental stimulation. If they become overly bored, they will tend to get into mischief. One of our females will hint at what she wants, she doesn't bark as part of her regular communication with us (she only barks to alert us of a potential danger), but if we miss or ignore her hint, she takes it upon herself to figure out a solution. For example, her water bowl was empty, so after a few minutes she decided she would get her own water from the refrigerator dispenser and that resulted in a nice size puddle on our kitchen floor.
🖤Our smallest female, (Roller)Derby, is approximately 50 lbs and our largest female, Dottie, is 55-60 lbs. Our only male, Dozer is shorter and thicker/stout than Dottie, but weighs slightly more at 60-65 lbs. Typically, OEBs are 17-20 inches in height (at the shoulder) and weigh 50-85 lbs. on average. They have many color variations, including the highly desired merle color traits.
💚Our OEB dams and sire are free breeders meaning they tie naturally, not using artificial insemination, and free whelping meaning they give birth naturally, not via C-section. We have them centrally located in our house and our dogs are of the right temperaments that pups can be handled frequently, weening starts at approximately 4 wks, introduction to housebreaking begins around 6-7 wks and our pups are for sale after their 2nd health certificate and vaccinations are complete at 8 wks. We have a close relationship with our veterinarian clinic that specializes in bully breeds, so they perform dew claw removal, tail docking, and vaccinations. We are overly cautious about the health of all of our dogs.
