This post comes with a very heavy heart for me…. and it is long because I have a lot to say.
Due to the sad passing of Dr. Cheryl Albin I will be taking over the Sedalia Spay and Neuter Clinic. This clinic is responsible for 30-40 alterations of cats and dogs per day year round and due to our current overpopulation problem with animals I could not see this clinic shut down.
Because surgeries are taking place all day long I will not be able to do house calls and therefore have to stop my mobile practice. After running two businesses for two months now, I have realized that the mental exhaustion from a full plate of surgeries does not allow me to see clients afterwards. This sadly means that my current clients will have to find another veterinarian.
There is nothing that I enjoyed more than seeing these animals in the comfort of their own home and having them be happy about seeing me to get vaccinated or checked on. The relationships I have built with my clients and their animals I hold dear to my heart. Please understand that this decision did NOT come easy to me and weighs very heavily on my heart.
There are A LOT of vet clinics out there for you to choose from. After meeting over a hundred people from all over the US at vet school it became apparent to me that we are all the same. Sure some may have been brought up by other veterinarians or some may have had a rougher past than others, but all of us had the same passion to learn and drive to help these animals who do not have a voice. We are just different. We like different things, we are more OCD about some things over others and some are more reserved than others…but we are all the same. We are all in it for the love of the animals and the passion for medicine to try to help those who can not tell us what is wrong. Finding your right fit of a vet may be easy or it may take a few tries. Just like your favorite server at a restaurant or favorite hairdresser you have to find what works best for you in many ways.
You must understand that my mobile business had ZERO overhead. I did not have fancy diagnostic equipment to buy and maintain, nor employees to take care of. This allowed me to keep my prices insanely low. However when you own a business with a building and 5-10 employees, your financial situations change. Employees are harder to come by so we have to stay competitive, pipes leak, and expensive blood machines break. We as good veterinarians have to be financially prepared to make these fixes in a heart beat so you as the consumer do not notice. We have to do this while at the same time maintaining a full schedule that is booked for weeks. With that said here is a list of local veterinary clinics that I personally have worked with or taken my pets there over the past few years and know they will treat your pet with the utmost care and love that I have:
Warrensburg Animal Hospital
Lifetime
Concordia Vet Clinic
Thompson Hills
I will state once again that we are at a pet overpopulation CRISIS!! Not all clinic will be able to see you same day, not all will take on new clients. We are all struggling to keep up with the problem of too many animals needing the few of us that there are. So be kind. I know personally you want your animal seen now, but sometimes you have to call around a lot or drive a bit further to get that emergency care.
You will never get far with hatred and anger. You will absolutely get further with kindness.
It has been a true pleasure to be your veterinarian. My phone is still on and I can always answer questions but it may be a delay in response.
Sincerely,
Olivia M. Bloom, DVM
If you want to go fast go alone, if you want to go far go together.
