Another surprise! We returned from our weekend away and we have another baby! 🥳
I think our farm sitter is on the verge of firing us at this point. 🤣🙈
This little girl has the COOLEST markings and is *so* close to making our panda cow dreams come true! She has the solid white belly, but not a band of white. 🐼
We have zero doubts that the Dad is our 36" non-chondro Baldy Bull (2nd picture is of him) but will run DNA, as always!
She'll be added to our website soon!

Look at this sweet baby boy HiBelt! 😍
We knew Maddie was bred, but thought she was only about 6 months bred to our Black Baldie Bull for a Panda Baby.
Welllll... we now think our Dun-Colored Highland Bull, Duncan, left us a parting gift before moving to his new farm 5 months ago!
DNA has been pulled and will be sent off ASAP! 💃 🤞

We didn't mean to bring the extreme heat and drought home from Las Vegas with us. 😳
In our paddocks we have a mixture of natural shade (trees) and lean-to shelters to provide a coolish spot for our ladies to relax in. Scarlett's favorite spot is in the larger lean-to shelter where the dirt also helps cool her down.
Y'all. Us Virginians aren't built for this 101° weather and crunchy, burnt, grass. We need lots of prayers, rain dances, and good vibes, for rain to start rolling in!

Happy 4th of July! We had plans to post adorable pictures of the cows in their outfits, but it poured down rain all day. 👎
Also, Maggie - Moo stole my headband and won't give it back.
That's basically life with cows in a nutshell.

Lucy, aka 'Loose Lucy,' always brings the laughs with her goofy antics and show-stopping personality! She's got the best of both worlds with our Herd Sire's luscious locks and her Mama's zany charm.
We'll miss this silly girl, but her new home is lucky to have her!

Jimmy may be uncertain about his new earring, but we're thrilled about his bright future!
In Virginia, in order for livestock to be transported across state lines they must have a Vet signed health certificate and RFID tag (earring).
This earring means Jimmy's journey at our farm is coming to an end, and his new forever home journey is about to begin! 💙🩷💙🩷

Yesterday was a special day for our Crunchy Mama pig.
This past February Crunchy Mama lost all 8 of her newborn piglets.
It was a freak accident ... the heat lamp shorted out in the middle of the night. Despite being in an indoor farrowing stall, with hay, we were too late by morning time. None of the piglets had survived the cold night.
She mourned, we mourned, it was a really sad few days for us all.
Yesterday, she became a Mom again, to another 8 beautiful little piglets! She was so happy to have her babies that she let them nurse/sleep snuggled up to her for hours! She didn't even get up to eat her own dinner until almost 10p!
Motherhood can be so beautiful and we're so thankful we get to witness that for our Crunchy Mama again!

Between baseball tournaments, work, vacations, halter training calves, and just life in general we've been slightly MIA from FB. 🙈 We promise to do better!

Never doubt the strength and determination of a woman trying to get the fence wire tightened.
High Tensile wire fencing has to be tightened a little bit every, once in a while. I wondered why it seemed "so loose" and uneven, as I continued to tighten. Something felt off.
But, I was determined to get that fence tightened. Whoopsies. 🤣💩

🌞🇺🇸 Happy Memorial Day weekend from Ridge and Valley Appalachian Farm! This weekend, we honor the brave men and women who have served and sacrificed for our freedom including our many family members. As we welcome the start of summer, our mini Highland cows and Kunekune pigs are enjoying the sunshine too! 🐮🐷

Happy Mother's Day to all the Moms in our World - but a special shout out to the Farm Moms!
The Farm Moms are the ones who never let a sad animal go without a snuggle. Or, a cold one without a blanket.
She shows up for all the animals with love, grace and compassion - just as she does for her own (human) children - everyday.
Here's to the Farm Moms in our lives 🍻 May we all be Blessed enough to know them!

Lucy's parents are a 37" Black Hereford mom and a 38" Highland dad. Star's parents are both 38" Highland, with Lucy and Star sharing the same dad!

Y'all. Let me tell you about the Jimmy.
It took us 3 days and the *whole* neighborhood to catch him to wean (we have amazing neighbors, BTW)!!
And now just look at this amazing boy only 3 weeks later! 🙌
He takes treats from our hand; Stands to be haltered, brushed, and bathed. Walks on the lead and loves snuggles. I'm so proud of him and the trust he's learned so quickly!
