Next week will be too late! We will likely hear fireworks this weekend, which will begin a week-long series of more fireworks. Prepare now to make sure it’s as stress-free as possible for your pups. One in five pets will go missing on July 4th, and you don’t want to be part of that statistic.
If your dog is especially fearful of fireworks, please contact your vet NOW to discuss calming medication. It can make a huge difference. If you can’t make it into the vet, visit your nearest pet store and look for OTC calming medications such as Rescue Remedy or h**p chews. If this is your pup’s first fireworks season, you may want to consider staying home. At the very least, make sure your dog is wearing current tags and microchips and do not let the dog outside during active fireworks.
For those of you setting off your own fireworks, please be mindful of the impact you have on your entire neighborhood. Limit the fireworks to July 4th when your neighbors have had a chance to prepare. We all love a good fireworks show, but it does come at a cost.
