Hilary Marie Montana Hansen is one of those people who isn’t going to sit and boast about the things she does but she will spend her time and energy building others up, including the horses. Hi all, Jess here with a WH update!
1. First order of business in update land is Hil is about to hit the road to Vegas with her girl Dori! The Mustang Champions show is the culmination of a mission that she and Willow set out on together months ago. 2. First fire trip and evac of the year happened 7/2 with the Toll Fire. Many of you know I also work over at Sunrise Horse Rescue and during disaster incidents, I am typically in charge of evacuation transportation. We monitored the fire and its proximity and decided it was time to get ready to go. Hil headed straight up to Sunrise and had 3 loaded and back to Wild Heart without incident. Lindsay hooked up the Wild Heart stock trailer, Jordan hopped in to drive the Sunrise truck and trailer and they went up to help move more horses. Wild Heart is one of the evac sites for Sunrise and our team is ever ready to help in an emergency and be a safe haven for evacuated animals. Another thing we fundraise for is to keep these trucks, trailers and our site available for disaster transport. Any money donated to Wild Heart, goes to this endeavor as well. Extra thank yous to Katherine, Genevieve, Casey and Jeff for transport support.
3. In awesome news... we've added a new board member, Gina Ruth and her bio and pic will be up shortly. We're excited to have Gina on board as she's involved in many aspects of the OTTB world, beyond that she's a joy to be around and the girl knows horses so her experience and expertise are invaluable to this group.

We have so much gratitude to be invited as a guest rescue to Sunrise Horse Rescue ‘s Harvest of Hope 2023. This is Sunrises big fundraiser of the year and we know it will be a huge success.
“Sunrise Horse Rescue is a nonprofit horse rescue and sanctuary located in Napa County, California. We are dedicated to saving horses and providing them with forever homes. Children and adults in the community gain life-enhancing skills by assisting in the rehabilitation of these horses and providing them with the loving attention they so deserve.”
Our rescues have worked together on different horses over the years and we support their mission whole heartedly. They are a light in the dark for so many horses in need. Many of the horses they take in are victims of extreme neglect and abuse. Sunrise uses your donations to give them excellent veterinary care, quality feed, solid farrier work and the extra bonus is lots of grooming and enrichment from volunteers and equine outreach for groups like the Boys and Girls Club and The Connected Horse.
They’ve graciously let us include a lot in the live auction, check us out, we’re #3. The event sold out quickly but you can still proxy bid on the awesome lots they have available.

Let’s reintroduce Wild Heart Star. 💫
Well it’s been a minute since this cutie has graced the social media. He been quite the wallflower, unsure of his place and surrounded by busy horses. Stripe pulled away from him so quickly in his acclimation to domestic life and now it’s time to really convince Star to come along.
We picked Star up at the Litchfield Corrals mid February 2023, the same day we picked up Stripe.
Hilary Marie Montana Hansen and Sonya Winterhalder Hollander are gently bringing this guy out of his shell and now we’re moving right along. He will be up for adoption when he’s ready, so stay tuned.
We also think he might be a secret Swiftie with this soft eyes and resilient spirit. 🩵

Hellllloooo Bonnie (officially)! 💛
From what we can gather, Bonnie was a broodmare for PMU farms up in Canada for about 10 years. She was rescued by someone in Mendocino County then spent the next 10 years or so in Potter Valley at a sanctuary. When her owner passed, Hilary Marie Montana Hansen received a phone call that she could be adopted, so Hil went to get her. Bonnie had not had any foot care, or vet care in many many years. We are very grateful that we have the opportunity to take care of her for the rest of her time. 💛
This is a long one. So here’s the short sweet. Wild Heart has taken over the financial responsibility for Bonbon. While we never set out to be a sanctuary, here we are with special Bonnie who needs a special home. We are looking for sponsors of any kind that would like to help with Bonnie’s care. She costs on the low side around $400 per month between her feet and feed. Great news is we found an awesome farrier, Duke Bonde , to help her hooves on the road to recovery and our amazing vet, Dr. Jill at Sonoma Marin Veterinary Service , got her teeth done and caught her up on vaccines. 💛

Gooooood morning from our two newest rescues, Sammy the donk and Newt the Nevada wild horse. 💚🐴
These two have become fast friends, in part due to a long time on their own. Horse companionship and herd behavior is so intensely important for their health. These two have been missing the companionship, safety, grooming and ability to rest and relax that only another equine can provide.
“Horses and the like need the herd. They are social animals and they only exist in natural settings in a herd; horses are never alone for long in the wild. They depend on the herd for social stimulation as well as a sense of security.
Horses actually depend on the herd for a feeling of well being. In the herd, they exist cooperatively: they stand head to tail to help keep pests away and they guard one another so that they can feel safe enough to sleep. If a horse is alone, he may never fully relax. He’ll always be the one that has to watch the horizon—constantly on guard.”
So many rescues have adoptable pasture pals to keep a single horse company and many of them will work with you on the financials and possibly even a foster situation. Please reach out anytime if you have one at home that you may think would benefit from a buddy. 💚🐴
