Sorry…it’s a bit of a long post.
I struggled for 4 weeks now about what I wanted to say and how to say it. I’m terrible with endings.
Here goes: our tiny farm received a notice of code violation on 9/28/24 for having livestock on a lot that was less than 1/3 acre. We had 10 days to relocate all animals and then submit to an inspection to make sure we were compliant .
This is where friendship and kindness astounded me. My friend Monica at Honey Badger Hill stepped in and took all of our birds, chicks and the entire egg business to her beautiful property. She facilitated the sale of all the birds that were supposed to be sold so I could recoup my investment. She also took over the egg business so our customers will continue to get the same quality eggs from a new address at Honey Badger Hill.

My friend Jen and her son Justin swooped in and came with a trailer to move all of my equipment and animals and make sure that the Buns had a new foster home…..just days before Jen had major surgery.

We never imagined that folks would show up for us in this way.

We are grateful for the time we had to realize our dream and we are hopeful for the future.

Above all we are so very grateful for all the people that supported our tiny farm and egg business. We hope you will continue to support Honey Badger Hill as Monica takes over where we left off.

Today we shipped 🪺Celadon Quail hatching 🐣 eggs for the very first time!!!!
One box 📦 is going to Texas and one box 📦 is on its way to Minnesota.
The packaging and shipping is definitely a learning process!
Remember the egg drop contest you did in school? Packaging eggs for shipping reminds me of that. I must have used 20 feet of bubble wrap per box 🤣 (only slight exaggeration 😂).
Sending 🐣big hatch energy 🐣with these pretty blue eggs and hoping it all goes well!

My friend Monica at
🍯🦡Honey Badger Hill🦡🍯
has a rooster 🐓 that was saved from “freezer camp” for being waay too pretty 🤩. Since he cheated death ☠️, she decided to name him JOHN after my husband who is a stroke survivor. -John loves this and calls the rooster “YOUNG JAY”.😂
Evidently “Young Jay” is known to drive a Cutlass around the farm when no one is looking 😉.

Young Jay🐓 (pictured) is a beautiful fluffy Splash cross of Auracauna (blue layer) and a Silkie so 🤞🏽 he carries the blue egg gene 🧬 . He has a flock of True Blue Laying ladies he attends to

Soooo…we are incubating:

5 of the incredibly exclusive YOUNG JAY line of blue and Green Layers.

15 Silkie eggs

21 Serama micro bantam eggs

And we will add Celadon Quail eggs in 3 days so that they all hatch on the same day.

Today is lockdown for the Bobwhite quail hatching eggs 🥚 which is when I shine a bright light in the eggs and see if they have developed. I take the developed eggs and put them back in the incubator in a basket with higher humidity and constant temp until they hatch.
These eggs were shipped across the US in the heat and were delayed 8!!! Days!!
It would be impressive if a few developed BUT guess what???? About 200 developed!!!! Now we never count our chicks until they leave the brooder 😂 but I was sooo juiced to see little beaks illuminated in those eggs. 3 more days give or take until 🐣 hatching day. Fingers crossed!!!

🐣 Hatching and incubating is always a gamble but we decided to kick it up a notch 😉 and dive head first in the poultry pool 🌊😂.

We ordered a case of 260 Bobwhite Quail fertile eggs from a hatchery but nature had other plans and the delivery was delayed 8 days. The chances of the eggs being viable are low but not zero. The hatchery was kind enough to refund our order but I thought “why not” and put them in to incubate anyway. 🤞🏽 we get some to hatch. 🐣 it’s my first time hatching them and they are trickier than regular quail.

Now we power 🧼 wash 💦those brooders and deep clean the incubator so we can focus on 🥚egg sales🍳.

Gearing down for summer. To save on energy costs to incubate and brood chicks and cool off bunnies, we are slowing down for the summer months. This is our second to last hatch until September (unless we get a giant order 😁$).

I can’t be 💯 sure but I think we now have a whopping 32 little Serama chicks 🐥 that hatched 🐣!
These are the worlds smallest breed of Chicken and when they are adults they are maybe the size of a cantaloupe 🍈.
The best part about them to me, is that they hatch a rainbow 🌈 of plumage colors every time.
They should be ready for your new coop around late May or June. Pre-order by messaging us 😉

Had a fantastic Coturnix Quail hatch 🐣 last night, so time to move day old chicks to the brooder, 3 week old chicks to the tower to grow out, and reload the incubator.
