Today we had to say goodbye to Brownie. When foaling, we knew something wasn’t right and we had to quickly pull her baby that was unfortunately, stillborn. The labor was really hard and just too much on her and our vet confirmed what we already knew, we had to say our goodbyes. We were with her when she crossed over the rainbow bridge. Momma and baby will be buried here together.

It was a rough day today. Went down to the barn this morning to feed and found Star on the ground. She was shaking and trying to get up and by time I got up to the house to call the vet and came back to check on her, she passed. I hope the time she had with us was joyful and relaxing as she had been abandoned for over 6 months in a field when we rescued her. Run free girl and let the wind whip through that beautiful mane of yours.

Pegasus, be still my heart, was a prince like always and then there is Jake my Belgium sale barn rescue, giving me the stink eye. Jake is not talking to me right now.

Thank you for the generous donations to our go fund me campaign and those that donate to our rescue. This is $800 worth of alfalfa and some spent whiskey grain for the horses. Jake got his last round of antibiotic shots today and he is feeling better. He is not wheezing and no longer has a runny nose but still a bit of a cough. We all know how long a cough can last, maybe I can slip him some honey, tea and a wee bit of bourbon? Heehee. Tomorrow we will work on his hoof.

I said “smile for the camera Jake” and he turned right towards me. He’s very timid and doesn’t want to lift his head up so we got to build up that confidence and let him know he is loved and this is his forever home. He does let me whisper sweet nothings in his ear and I can rub his back and legs with no flinching so he has been worked with some.

Say hi to Jake, our Bowie rescue. Jake saw Dr Hayes today and Jake still has a temperature and a touch of shipping fever (pneumonia) however he is being treated and expected to make a full recovery.

Jake has some thrush in his back hoof and a little cracking and that is a work in progress albeit fixable. Jake is 2 yrs old and a little under height for a 2 yr old so Doc thinks he may have been malnourished as a younger c**t but still has about 3 years to grow. This youngster weighs in at 1,000 pounds…just a toddler, I suppose.

Jake is intact for now however he will be gelded as soon as we get him over his hoof and respiratory infection. Get better Big Jake, now it’s time to go eat some alfalfa.
