Please be aware that a Bald Eagle has been seen flying over Moweaqua and perching in trees in town. I saw it myself on Saturday afternoon. A bald eagle’s talons are just a little smaller than a man’s hand. Even though bald eagles usually eat fish, the nesting season has begun and they will be having hatchlings soon. If they are unable to find enough fish to feed their young, they will also catch and kill small mammals such as rabbits, squirrels, rats, weasels, and even cats, small dogs and foxes (as one of the photos illustrates). Be aware when you take your pets outside, and consider making your small outdoor or indoor/outdoor pets into indoor only. I am excited that there are eagles back in our area, both east and west of town, that are nesting. But I would sure hate for someone’s pet to be scooped up never to be seen again. Keep them safe!
