In Krakow’s town square, Ukrainians sing and protest the Russian invasion 🇺🇦💛
Dan met Andrew last year in Izyuim 💗
He’s been kind enough to help us with catching dogs and cats and has opened his WW2 shelter to help 62 people over the course of 6 months to stay safe throughout the Russian bombings ✨
Vaccines ✅
These cuties are all part of Krystina’s shelter located in Poldiki!
We were all really impressed with how well behaved they all are - cheeky, but so cute!!🥰
If you’re interested in providing a loving forever home for one or two of these wonderful bundles of energy, please get in touch via our website - UWARF.org 🤝🏼
Each day that the teams are out across Ukraine, we are one step closer to reaching our goal of helping over 400,000 animals by 2025 🐾✨
The work that the team endure is not for the faint hearted, so we applaud them on their constant determination to get the job done 👏🏻🤝🏼

⌛ Mission 5 to Ukraine countdown...05 days ⌛
Rabies information from the CDC:
Rabies is a serious viral disease that affects the nervous system and is almost always fatal once symptoms appear. Here are some key facts about rabies transmission from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC):
1️⃣ Transmission: Rabies is primarily transmitted through the bite of an infected animal. The virus is present in the saliva and nervous tissue of infected animals, and it can be transmitted through a bite, scratch, or even when infected saliva comes into contact with open wounds or mucous membranes.
2️⃣ Animal Reservoirs: The main animal reservoirs for rabies are wild mammals such as raccoons, bats, skunks, and foxes. However, domestic animals like dogs and cats can also become infected and transmit the virus to humans.
3️⃣ Global Impact: Rabies is present in more than 150 countries worldwide, posing a significant public health concern. It causes tens of thousands of deaths each year, with the majority occurring in Asia and Africa.
4️⃣ Prevention: Vaccination is the key to preventing rabies. Vaccinating pets, especially dogs, is crucial to protect both animals and humans from the disease. Avoiding contact with stray or wild animals and seeking immediate medical attention after a potential exposure is also essential.

Sirius Dog Shelter: Home to over 3,000 dogs and 200 cats
This is a short video of a UWARF visit to the Sirius Dog Shelter in Ukraine.
Located just north of Kyiv and south of Belarus, Sirius Dog Shelter is the third largest animal shelter in the world.
The UWARF team visited Sirius during our second mission to Ukraine. We were able to treat over 400 animals, providing them with essential veterinary care and love. However, our mission was cut short due to the threat of Russians invading from Belarus.
We will be heading back to Ukraine in just 10 days. Military threats remain a top concern, but the animals still need our help, and our work is critical to the health of returning Ukrainians.

🐾 Meet Dr. Peder, a dedicated veterinarian working with UWARF 🩺
Dr. Peder has been working tirelessly to address the growing concern of rabies in Ukraine.
A few months ago, he was bitten by a rabid cat. He was able to access treatment quickly, which saved his life. But this unfortunate incident only highlights the urgent need for vaccination and prevention efforts.
Through our upcoming mission, we aim to address this pressing issue by providing vaccinations, sterilizations, and microchipping to thousands of animals.
Let's fight for a safer future for both animals and communities in Ukraine. 🌟

Preventing an Animal Welfare Crisis in Ukraine
Ukraine has been facing challenges with low pet sterilization rates, leaving a significant number of stray and roaming animals even before the invasion. With sterilization and vaccination clinics closed due to the war, the situation has become critical.
With support from 100s of people from around the world, UWARF is on the ground, working with local rescue groups, citizen volunteers, and veterinarians to sterilize, vaccinate, and microchip thousands of animals.

Today we're sharing the story of Krystina -- one of the key folk we have on the ground in Ukraine. You will see her often in our videos and photos!
Krystina, a trained architect from the Odessa region of Ukraine, dedicated herself to animal rescue when construction opportunities dwindled. With fluency in Ukrainian, Russian, English, Chinese, and even some French, she serves as a vital translator during our missions.
Krystina's commitment extends beyond rescue, as she personally delivers our furry friends across Europe, free of charge.
Join us in supporting Krystina and our upcoming August mission, ensuring over 2,000 dogs and cats receive care and protection across multiple villages.

Rabies Warning.mp4
Mission 5 countdown - 22 days
Did you know - even before the war, Ukraine had the highest incidence rate of rabies in all of Europe?
Recent surveys revealed that a staggering 15% of stray and free-roaming dogs and cats in Ukraine tested positive for rabies between 2012 and 2016. It's a real public health concern, especially children who are most vulnerable to bites.
The UWARF team is on a mission to defuse this ticking time bomb! 💣
We're sterilizing, vaccinating, and caring for those unvaccinated and unsterilized cats and dogs who wander the streets.

Marhanets Puppy Reel.mp4
The UWARF team is heading back into a dangerous place
For Mission 5 in August, the UWARF team will be returning to the village of Marhanets, which we previously visited during Mission 4 earlier this year.
This village, located across the Dnipro river and not far from the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant occupied by Russian troops, holds immense significance.
Marhanets, once home to 50,000 people, has been facing numerous challenges. Earlier this year, the village experienced shelling near the nuclear facility, causing significant concerns.
Rockets even struck a radioactive material storage area, prompting the global atomic watchdog to issue a warning about a "grave" crisis. Remarkably, our team was only 13 kilometers (8 miles) away during these alarming events.
Considering the ongoing circumstances and the urgent needs of this high-priority area, we are committed to making a difference in Marhanets once again. In August our dedicated team will provide vital veterinary services, including sterilization, vaccination, and microchipping, to the animals in need and support the local community.

📢📢 UWARF Mission 5 fundraising update!
Animal Protectors – Just over a week ago we launched the Mission 5 fundraising campaign to help stray cats and dogs in Ukraine. The response has been outstanding — so far we have raised $80,000 which includes a grant from Humane Society International (HSI)!
Thank you very much to everyone who has joined us as supporters of Mission 5!
We still have some work before we reach our goal. The funding goes right to the mission and covers costs for humane animal capture and care, medical equipment, and food/fuel for the volunteers and vet techs who are doing the work.
This short clip gives you an idea of what it's like to interact with one of the stray animals we encounter on our missions. You see how this dog is familiar and friendly -- a loved family pet, now on the street.

Everyday, new puppies and kittens are born into a life of misery and danger in Ukraine.
It is one of the reasons why our sterilization campaigns are so important. Not only to keep the already existing population under control, but also to prevent a massive wave of suffering.
On March 5th we start our third sterilization and vaccination campaign in Ukraine, this time serving the regions of Kherson and Kharkiv.
Support our cause by spreading the word on our mission!
One animal sterilized, microchipped and vaccinated costs 44 USD. Please donate to:

Let's make one more 2022 push!
In 2023 we plan to continue as strong as ever. Every time we are in Ukraine we are reminded that the time to act is NOW! So not even 10 days back home, we are planning our next sterilization campaign in the very needy Kharkiv region.
Please consider one last act of kindness to close your 2022 and support our ongoing efforts. 2022 was our start, 2023 will cement our efforts! With your support, we are unstoppable in our mission to change the faith of dogs and cats in Ukraine.
