Virginia Reger Hadley
Oct 13, 1927 - July 1, 2020
When I looked at those dates above the thing that struck me the most was just how simple a dash is. Especially when that dash is representing this cowgirls extrordinary life. She was not only the mother to Matt and Mark Hadley but a trailblazer for cowgirls everywhere. When "The Turtles", rodeos first association, was developing into the Rodeo
Cowboys Association, the RCA was rolling around the idea to include Barrel Racing, rodeos only female dominated sport in all their performances. At this point, there weren't many that knew what it was. With Virginia being one of the few ladies of rodeo at the time she was asked to run an "exhabition run" to promote the event. What tickled me most about hearing this story was not the fact that she was making history in our beloved sport but her excitement at riding Williard Combs famed, world champion bulldogging horse, BabyDoll Combs.
This being one of my favorite stories that Virginia shared with me I thought I ashould shere it with all of you as a celebration of her phenominal life! RIP COWGIRL!

Hadley Ranch Shorty Jacks

Hadley Ranch is a small cattle operation located just north of Abilene, Texas. Along with the Coriente cattle, rope and cutting horses we raise the “Shorty” Jack Russell Terrier. By “Shorty” we mean 10 to 14 lbs and 8 to 10 inches tall, with a smooth or broken coat, but as they say, dynamite comes in small packages! These are some small dogs with a heck of a lot of heart. Our bloodlines are true working and hunting bloodlines but they also contain a fantastic companion dog.

At Hadley Ranch Shorty Jacks our goal is to produce a well adjusted, socialized pup. When you take yours home we want it to feel like your pup has been there forever. This makes for a smooth transition on you and the your pup. These pups are actually whelped in a room off of our master bedroom and raised in our home. We want them to have plenty of human interaction and be familiar with everyday household noises. When you come and pick out your pup, they won’t be shrinking back because they don’t recognize you; they will be vying for your attention.

For a fee, we also offer a 10 to 14 day “puppy boot camp”. At seven weeks, we start training a puppy curriculum with your individual pup. The pup will be crate and potty trained, and have a strong foundation in basic obedience for you to build on. When your pup comes home they will sit, down, come when called, stay and walk politely on a leash, on command. We train with positive re-enforcement, meaning we reward the good behavior and ignore the unwanted behavior. Puppies this age have no bad habits and we want them to continue to grow into a good mannered dog. We will spend time with you and your family or conference by phone to make sure that you and your pup get off to a great start. Our trainer will also be available to you, by phone or email, for any questions you may have while your pup is settling in to your home.

So when you are ready for your new “best friend” please give us a call and come spend the day at the Hadley Ranch.
