Does it hurt? Will my horse “feel it”?

Short answer- no!

≋ The Electro-Acuscope and Myopulse are not like the typical TENS units we are used to that cause the muscles to “twitch”.

≋ Here you see, we simply have an electrode plate with a conducting gel on the skin that transmits the currents into the body.

≋Remember, these are MICROcurrents, an energy comparable to the body’s own normal, healthy cells. It has been scientifically proven that this low level of current is the most beneficial to the body’s cells in healing and repair. It actually produces ATP (the energy currency of a cell) rather than consumes it (which happens with modalities that cause muscle twitching).

≋These lower level currents do not cause muscle twitching or any shock feeling to the horse, so even the most sensitive of horses enjoy it! 🌊

So what are the Electro-Acuscope and Myopulse Therapy Systems? 🌊

They are FDA approved modalities proven to treat neuromuscular and musculoskeletal conditions, manage acute and chronic pain, and reduce recovery times by at least 50%.

These instruments use a unique biofeedback technology to measure the tissue conductivity and cell capacitance (ability to hold a charge) in each patient . The body has a natural electrical signal and if there are abnormalities, by reading these, the instruments then generate specific micro-current frequencies needed for each individual and introduces the specific charge back into the cells to optimize their function and begin the healing process.

My name is Dr. Camille Forstadt and I am a veterinarian certified in small and large animal acupuncture and the ATS Electro-Acuscope and Myopulse Therapy Systems.

My journey started in 2011 when my upper level eventing horse sustained a career ending injury to a tendon in his foot. I looked for anything and everything to help him through the rehabilitation process. It was at that time, I was introduced to the Electro-Acuscope and Myopulse. During these months of treatments and dedication to rehabilitating my horse, I knew this was what I wanted to pursue in my career- to help animals in similar situations not only recover, but have the best chance of longevity and fully optimizing their potential and overall wellbeing. Fast forward to today, after a decade of school and training, here we are!

My patients are 500-1300 lbs on average. The fear of being mortally wounded by my patients is real. I believe horses allow me to acupuncture them because they sense my heart’s intention 🌷🌿

How much weight can a horse carry?

In my experience, a horse can carry an infinite amount.

They can carry the weight of broken hearts, broken homes, and broken bodies. Countless tears sometimes comb their tangled manes. Moments when parents and friends cannot be there to help and hold a person, horses embrace and empower. They carry physical, mental, and emotional handicaps. They carry hopes and dreams; and they will carry the stress from your day when you can't carry it anymore.

They carry graduations, they carry new careers, they carry moves away from everything familiar, they carry marriages, they carry divorces, they carry funerals, they carry babys before they are born, and sometimes they carry the mothers who cannot carry their own baby. They carry mistakes, they carry joy, they carry the good and they carry the bad. They carry drugs and addictions, but they also carry the celebrations.

They will carry you to success when all you have felt is failure. They will carry you, never knowing the weight of your burdens and triumphs.

If you let them, they will carry you through life, and life is hard, life is heavy. But a horse will make you feel weightless under it all.

Introducing Perfect Synchronicity aka Piper, the spicy little mare I got off the track on New Year’s Day 2019. I spent the following 8 months rehabbing her from an injury sustained racing.
Since her full recovery Piper has shown more bravery than I could ever imagine, now competing successfully at Training level less than a year into her eventing career. She gives me my wings, and she was WORTH IT! 💫
