We are all staying cool out here! Remember for the next several days as temperatures are high to take special care of your animals. Out here, we are cooling the barn early and closing it to trap in the cold air. In the cooler morning hours, the horses are turned out into shady pastures. In the afternoon we are hosing them down and then bringing them into the cool barn as temperatures rise. Make sure you horse's water is clean and cool and maybe put out an extra bucket for wildlife! Stay safe out there everybody!

We are so excited to be welcoming an additional assistant Instructor to our team! Koby has been practicing traditional astatic archery for five years. He is a certified US Archery level 2 Instructor and has competed at multiple events throughout the State. Koby specializes in teaching archery, and has been learning mounted archery at Ridgeline for two years. We are so excited to bring him on the team!

IMPORTANT PSA REMINDER: It is a Class C Felony to shoot a bow within the city limits of Eugene. For our students, we can organize time for you to use our range for practice. Otherwise, you can practice at the ODFW Archery Range at the Junction City pond, use the range at the Bow Rack or the Cascade range in Veneta. There are also traditional archery practices regularly in Dexter with the SCA Barony of Adiantum. There are lots of options to practice safely without breaking the law.

Are you looking to buy a riding helmet? A riding helmet is the best defense against life-altering head injuries. You should ALWAYS wear a helmet when riding. But what helmet should you buy?? First, it needs to be a horse riding helmet. Bicycle helmets, motercyxle helmets, snowboarding etc. are not designed for the physics of a horse fall. When you fall off a horse you are falling from a significant height while traveling at a fast speed. A helmet must be specifically designed for this to protect you. Second, its most important the helmet fits your head correctly. Your helmet should sit about an inch above your eyebrows and fit your head snugly and securely. It should jostle around or easilly lift off your head. Imagine if it were a large hat. It ahould sit snugly enough that a gust of wind wont blow it off, but not so tight that its uncomfortable or give tou a headache! The shape of the helmet is important. Some people have round heads and others have oval heads. If you have a round head, an oval shaped helmet will feel loose in the front and back and tight on the sides. If you have an oval head, a round helmet will feel loose on the sides and tight on the front and back. I also reccomend getting a MIPS technology helmet. MIPS stands for Multidirectional Impact Technology. This is an inner lining in your helmet that absorbs twisting impact in your helmet and helmets prevent your brain from literally getting shaken up in your head as you fall. Concussions can happen just from the brain bouncing around as you fall through the air. (Did you know your head isnt hard on the inside? Its squishy and full of fluid to protect your brain!) Linked below is the Virginia Tech helmet study which ranked MIPS helmets based on their performance. I reccomend you get a helmet off this list near the top! And remember, helmets EXPIRE after 5 years. You dont need the modt exprnsive helmet to be safe. Number 5 on this list is the Tuffrider Carbonfiber MIPS and its $60.00 bucks! Remember, any fall that can happen, will happen on the one day you dont wear your helmet! Safety first!
