Just wanted to thank everyone for being patient. I had been really sick with the flu for about 2-3wks (be safe, it is really bad this year) I thought it was Covid but tested negative twice! Then we’ve been super busy with family stuff because of the holidays and such. Rusty and all the others are doing absolutely amazing here currently, they all enjoyed some pumpkin on thanksgiving as a little fall treat! We will not be posting as much as we use to until after Christmas and new years as I’m wanting to make sure I spend as much time with family as possible.

Please remember to be safe around the holidays with you and your family members! Today is nail trimming day so we’re about to clip some nails and give out some treats for how good they are every time we clip nails 💝

🚨Found Injured Rabbit

Is this your bunny? Or do you know who it belongs to? Contact us!

This is who we call Rusty, Rusty was apparently found by some people with an injury (puncture wound). According to the vets, they took Rusty to the wildlife sanctuary but they couldn’t take him in because Rusty is a domesticated rabbit. He had to of been someone’s pet at some point! So they took him to East Hill Animal Hospital, who has been calling around trying to find placement for Rusty after they treated him and took amazing care of him. They ended up calling the wonderful people over at Sunset Wildlife Connection and they pointed the animal hospital towards us. Now, we are not taking in any owner surrenders at this time but we are open to helping out in emergencies like this. They called us and we talked to the amazing people over there. They told us they had called some others but as most of you guys know, everyone is at max capacity nowadays. He’s got a single puncture wound on the underside of him that he will be on oral meds for the next 5 days after today (today was his first round with us). We are hoping to find his owners! We don’t shame or judge people whose pets have gotten out, for all we know, Rusty could have been living a luxurious life as a free roam house bunny and managed to escape out a front door! If this rabbit belongs to you, or you know who it belongs to, please contact us! He is super sweet and calm but he is very nervous and scared with all these new changes.

If for some reason we cannot find his new owners, he will be up for adoption around December 1st. (He will need to finish out his meds, have a follow up with the vet and then finish out quarantine).

Please share and help us get the word out about this found rabbit! Anyone who suspects this might be their rabbit most provide photos/proof of Rusty when he was in their possession before.

We had a new rabbit come into the rescue! East Hill Animal Hospital gave us a call after Sunset Wildlife Connection pointed them towards our direction. We are going to try to see if we can find his old owners, if not, he will be on his antibiotics for the next 6 days and then in 10ish days he will return for a checkup. After that he will be kept in quarantine for a following 20 days then will be up for adoption. Here is this rabbits story, we call him Rusty.

Rusty was taken to East Hill Animal Hospital because he was found with a puncture wound on his underside. The people who found him tried to take him to the wildlife sanctuary which they were unable to take him in, probably because this is a domesticated rabbit. East Hill tried calling some people to get this guy placement but as most of you guys know, most places are at full capacity. Right now we’re not taking in any small animal owner surrenders - only emergency cases like this. We are going to make a few posts tomorrow to search the surrounding areas just incase Rusty does have an owner who is missing him! We do not jump to conclusions or shame people whose animals get out. For all we know, Rusty could have been a free roam house bunny who accidentally ran out the front door. All we know is he’s in great hands now, will keep getting all his meds and a bunch of love until he gets better! We are hoping we can reunite him with his old owner but if not, he will be adopted out after all the steps listed above!

A photo from yesterday of this precious girl in the carrier while we cleaned her cage out 💝 yes, she definitely is a fluffy potato with legs hahah!

A little bit about the girl we’ve now nicknamed “Frost”:

She is super sweet and sociable, she loves being handled and cuddling. Her favorite treats are carrots and bell peppers! She loves to chitter and squeak at you every time she smells any bell pepper or hears the crinkling of plastic, thinking it’s time for more hay! She is a bit of an older girl and guinea pigs are social creatures but she is a dominant female, meaning she is needing to go to a new home with someone that either already has another female guinea pig that is not dominant, or she will need to stay as the only guinea pig.

She has a low adoption fee but you must show proof of proper enclosure, proper diet (pellet feed, hay, fresh fruits and veggies), proper enrichment (chews, hides, etc) and must show that you have knowledge of their care. If you think you’ll be the best fit for her, let us know and we would love to learn more about you to make sure you are the perfect fit and we can always share more about her if you have any questions! We also allow basically “foster to adopt” if you have guinea pigs at home and want to make sure they are compatible and can be friends before finalizing the adoption.

*Please note all of our animals come with adoption contracts that must be signed before taking procession of your new pet.

We haven’t taken in many new animals recently but two weeks ago we did take in these 3 hamsters, we believe to be one of the dwarf breeds of hamsters.

These guys were taken in from a lady who got to many and didn’t have enough enclosures/properly sized enclosures. They are not very friendly but we are working on gaining their trust!

They all have been separated and living their best life currently. They are in quarantine for another 2-4wks depending on if we see anything alarming (so far all seem to be healthy!) and then will get socialized a bit more before being adopted out. Each hamster will have a very low adoption fee, however, you must show proof of valid enclosure, equipment, proper sized wheel (wheel saucers are the best), enrichment (chewing blocks, wood, etc.) and proper food. (Oxbow or another single just pellet type food). Getting a proper set up can be expensive but after that, their care is pretty easy and low maintenance. They all will need to go to people who know about hamsters and their care such as diet, inches of bedding level, etc. we are happy to walk you through everything if needed but we will not be adopting out these guys unless proof of all listed above is shown. Hamsters are one of the most neglected small animals out there, and we want to make sure these guys have the best life from here on out. **** These guys cannot be kept together, and we will not adopt one out to go into a cage with another hamster you already have, they will kill each other.

Our morning started off with cutting up $100 worth of fruits and veggies (all not pictured here). Cut some up for our reptiles that eat fruits and veggies and all of our small animals that do too (hamsters, Guinea pigs, rabbits, etc). Cleaned everyone’s cages. And ended with our hamsters are even getting a well deserved treat, scrambled eggs and some new chews! Eggs are an excellent source of protein, iron, and vitamins A&B! Best served scrambled or hard boiled!

A little update on Roush after she got adopted! She’s doing amazing and is loving her new humans. It’s been awhile since she was adopted out to them, but we still keep up to date on all of our guys and gals that get adopted out! We are so glad she went to the best home for her, they take amazing care of her and she’s spoiled rotten! Here’s a few words from her new parents:

“Queen of her castle and queen of our hearts!
Adopting our little spunky girl was the best decision we could have made. We have loved getting to know her and watching her quirky personality shine. There’s definitely never a dull moment with Roush.
We are so thankful for the Alchemy Rescue and Sanctuary for bringing her into our lives and loving her as much as we do!” - Natalie W. / Roush’s adopter

Bun Bun just chilling in the spare cage while we clean her normal one. She just knows how to do the baby face so we’ll give her more salad when she goes back into her cage hahaha. We got on outside pen so they can have more enrichment and room to run during the day (supervised). They are going to love it!

Cuddle session for the day ✅

Rats always hold a special place in my heart, when I was a young kid, they were actually the first pet (other than a dog) that my family owned! I remember even back then doing everything possible to make sure they had these huge cages with enrichment, rats are one of the big reasons why I got into exotics, they were a small stepping stone into the path we’ve paved today.

Keep in mind these are actually very clean rodents and very very smart. They probably listen better than our dogs haha. They actually have sound commands I use with them, a higher single pitch is a warning (usually when one nibbles to hard or if I need them to back away from the cage door). Pspspsps is treat time and clicking my tongue is cuddle time and they all come running for that.

If you ever have a problem with a wild rat think next time about safely trapping and relocating it to the nearest woods. Remember glue traps are never okay to use for anything! It’s an inhumane and terrible death.

Yesterday, we took back in “Silver” the Flemish Giant we adopted out about 8-9 months ago. As most of you know, all of our animals come with adoption contracts. It states that animals are not to be resold/given away and must be surrendered back into the rescue if they adopters can no longer care for the animal. This helps void out any animal flippers as our adoption fees are a lot smaller than what you’d pay at a pet store or with an ethical breeder (please never support byb!). Well when an animal is surrendered back in, 9 times out of 10, they become a permanent sanctuary resident. That way they don’t bounce home to home, we put the animals first, and that includes their mental health just as much as their physical health.

Silver was VERY well taken care of and very loved by his adopters, however they have many personal things going on and cannot take care of all his needs and wanted the best for him. They surrendered him back into the rescue, where he is now becoming a sanctuary resident. However his adopters do you have the option to adopt him back again at a later date as they truly did take the best care of him, just hard times have fallen and they did the selfless act of doing what was best for him at this time. It’s so heartwarming and heartbreaking having him back as he always had a special place in our heart. He now makes rabbit #2 in our sanctuary, alongside our holland lop female named BunBun.

Silver is going through a temporary quarantine and then resume back to life as normal! Here’s to a new chapter for silver.

🚨🚨🚨🚨 TRANSPORTER NEEDED
PU location: Old Town FL
End location: Halfway or all the way to Pensacola
(Halfway: 2hrs / Full drive: 4hrs)

We saw this post in a rat rescuing group. There is not many offers of help sadly and nothing has been lined up yet. The amazing lady who posted this was able to get them out of the terrible situation. However, she cannot keep them and in order to keep them quarantined from her healthy rats they have to stay in tanks which leads to URI and so much more!

There is 31 and 2-4 are pregnant according to the amazing lady who took them in. We have the space and resources to take them all in. We are reaching out to see if there is any amazing person who could help transport these guys. We are in Pensacola and they are in Old Town FL (4hrs one way). We are only able to drive halfway (2hrs) to meet the transporter if needed. Please contact us if you are able to assist in anyway.

We took in two day geckos over the weekend from someone locally. He had them in a great set up, feeding them all the correct foods. This one however just seems to not be doing so good. Waiting for a f***l so we can ship it out and test it and see what exact is going on with them. Can’t wait to see this one’s glow up!
