If your pup is a bit scared and struggles with Fireworks during the holidays this post is for you. Here are a few tips on how to keep your pets safe and calm during the fireworks on Fourth of July 🎆

→ Make sure you walk your pup before it gets dark and all the fireworks start.
→Update your pup's microchip information if you recently moved or changed your phone number. Make sure your pup is wearing a collar with a tag that contains updated contact information especially if your pup is going to be outside.
→Never force your pup to stay outside, instead create a safe calming space for them inside and let them stay indoors.
→If your Primary Veterinarian has anxiety medications prescribed for your pup make sure you have some on hand and give as directed by your Veterinarian( normally to be given 1-2hr prior stressful event)
→ Make sure to check-in on your pup if you're at home when the fireworks have started. Give them attention/distraction if needed to make this as comfortable for them as possible. Be calm but offer reassurance.

Heatstrokes in dogs happens when their body temperature rises above 104ºF (40ºC). This can occur during exercise or if a pet is left unsupervised outside for long periods of time in high environmental temperatures without means of cooling.

⚠️Signs of Heatstroke on a dog:
-Heavy panting or drooling
-Elevated heart rate
-Vomiting & Diarrhea
-Excessive thirst
-Unsteady legs/lethargy
-Glassy eyes
- Pet can also start having seizures

➡️What to do: "Cool first, transport second"
- Take your pup somewhere cool, a well ventilated area or use a fan
- Offer them small sips of water (do not force them to drink)
- Cold water immersion is an effective approach for young/healthy pups.
- Pouring water of any temperature that is cooler than your dog over them and combine with a fan or A/C is an effective way to bring the body temperature down for older pups or pups with any underlying health condition.
- If the above is not an option (due to not having a fan or A/C on hand) cool them by pouring/hosing cool water on them. ❗️It is important not to use ice cold water as this can reduce the blood flow to the skin, reducing the ability to cool down or causing them to shiver increasing body heat

Once you started these steps, prepare to get your pup to immediate care. Contact your nearest Veterinary Emergency clinic or your pup's primary Veterinarian (if is close by) to alert them of the situation and let them know that you are in route to them that way they can prepare and be ready for your arrival since they need to start treatment as soon as you arrive.

Tick Season is in full swing 🤮 and is said to be worse than ever due to the mild winter and early spring.

✅ Make sure your pet is up to date with their Heartworm/flea and tick prevention. ( You're able to obtain this via your pet's primary veterinarian. Make sure your veterinarian perform a Heartworm(4Dx) test first if your pet has never been on any heartworm/flea and tick prevention previously or if your pet has not been on it for more than 30 days.

✅Check your pet regularly for ticks especially after being outside. The head and legs should be where you check first. Make sure to check in between the toes when you're inspecting your pup's legs.

✅ Make sure to remove your dog's collar from time to time and inspect for ticks.

❗️If you're unsure on how to remove ticks or don't have the proper tools to do so, please contact your local or your pet's primary veterinarian.

Good afternoon PupLuxe family! June 1st marks the first day of LGBTQ+ Pride Month. In years past, we've made a post about why it's important to us, but this year we're accompanying that with a profile picture change for the month of June.

We chose not to do this the past 2 years due to how oversaturated social media becomes with what appears to be "corporate pandering" to an audience that is wary of "virtue signaling." However, we feel that this sentiment does not apply to us. We ARE an LGBTQ-owned business and we do employ people who belong to the LGBTQ+ community. For these reasons, we believe that we have a responsibility to make our advocacy for this community crystal clear.

Our Pride logo is based on the Progress Pride Flag designed by non-binary artist Daniel Quasar in 2018. We believe this this version of the flag best represents the importance of diversity and inclusion. The addition of the brown colors and the blue/pink/and white colors adds focus to 2 of our most vulnerable demographics, LGBTQ people of color and trans/non-binary people.
