Fun Fact: Yawning is contagious. Studies have shown that the sound of a human yawn can trigger one from your dog. And it’s four times as likely to happen when it’s the yawn of a person your pet knows.

The pups have really enjoyed the last few days at the Cottage! Enjoy the pictures!

Doggy fun fact:
Their sense of smell is at least 40x better than ours!

The area of cells in the brain that detect different smells is around 40 times larger in dogs than humans. This means that your dog can pick up on way more smells than we ever could.

Fun Fact (in the midst of all of this heat):

Dogs sweat through their paws, but unlike humans, they can't sweat all over their bodies. To cool down, dogs pant, and the sweat from their paws reacts with bacteria on their feet to create a smell that's similar to corn chips.

More Exciting News from Canine Cottage Salem!

1. You asked, so we’re delivering! Saturday Daycare for tax free shopping weekend on 8/3/2024! Drop your pups off at the cottage and let them have a day full of fun with their besties while you shop til you drop! Daycare hours will be 8:00am -5:30pm and the cost is $35!! Limited slots available so reserve yours using the app now! Peanut butter bowls and pool time will also be available as add-ons for this day! Full details are documented on the reservation notice you receive each time you request daycare reservations!

2. Another highly requested item has been a Deluxe Boarding option. We’re now able to accommodate 9 deluxe boarding guests! Deluxe boarders will have an XL crate with double-layered bedding and A/C! This option is ideal for our elderly and disabled pups!

3. All boarding guests now have newly added industrial strength cooling fans! Large ceiling fans are being installed next week! Boarding guests also have towels for padding, water bowls in their crates and snooze to classical music!

4. We now offer an add-on option for cooling towels in crates at bedtime for our standard boarding pups. Please be sure and select the “cooling towel” add-on at checkout when booking your boarding reservation.

5. We now require a $15 (for bath packages) and $25 (for a full groom) non-refundable deposits for grooming packages. The deposit will be added to the service received upon completion.

6. We have also added a mini pool add-on for our pups! These pools will be set up daily during the summer months for your pups to enjoy! Please select the “play time in mini pool” add on at checkout! If you purchase the mini pool add-on, then your fur baby will have access to all pools. The small pools have to be broken down and re-filled each day, so there is an additional fee for the mini pool.

Thank you for continuing to trust us with the care of your fur babies! We hope these additional services and modifications will make it even more enjoyable for them during their time with us!

These dogs had THE BEST time playing with the pools and the water hose!!

We set the mini pool up for all of our little pups but as you can see the bigs had other plans!!

Guess we will open this up to the bigs as an add on now too!!

(The littles will still have their own swim/water play time separate from the bigs.)
“Littles pool” can be added via the app.

It was a hot one today so we pulled out the water hose!
Most of the pups loved it!!
…..some REALLY loved it…..and of course there were a few who preferred the dry shade (last pic😂)
We also dumped lots of ice cubes in their play grounds to help keep them cool!

We are thrilled to announce that as of today and minus a pending search for the Cottage’s next manager, we are fully staffed!

Our dedicated team is eager to continue providing top-notch care for your beloved fur babies. The health and safety of our animals and staff remain our top priority.

We are grateful to have a wonderful staff, rich in experience and love for animals.

Attention Canine Cottage Salem: We will be closed in observance of Independence Day, 7/4/2024. Any dogs boarding with us prior to 7/4 will be well cared for on the 4th, but there will be no daycare services or additional boarding check-ins/check-outs due to the holiday. We apologize for any inconvenience this causes and appreciate your loyalty and support of the Cottage.
